I was 5’8” 235 and no real medical issue. Knee pain was just starting with exercise. I could see how it was going to snowball though and wanted to nip it in the bud. I didn’t lose as much as I hoped (dr warned me though that people with bipolar do not always lose as much) but even still I am so glad I did the surgery. It’s Amazon how much difference over 50 pounds makes. The knee pain is gone and the most important thing is that I am no longer gaining which I was steadily doing every year.
  2. I had my surgery on the states but they didn’t do anything to check my stomach. All I had was bloodwork and psyc exam. Then morning of the surgery I told them I had heart murmur as a child and they did A quick EKG.
  3. Amazing progress. Keep it up.

    Psych Eval Tomorrow - Nervous

Looks like I missed this one since your appointment should have passed. For others I will add that mine too was sorta a joke. I have a psychologist and psychiatrist so I sorta knew what to expect. I just don’t feel like he asked that many questions. Regardless, both my other doctors who have known me for years were on board with my surgery. Maybe that’s why he wasn’t too concerned?? Anyways, how did yours go?

    3 Years Post Op

You already said your restriction is still there. That’s all you need to get back on track. You’ve got this.

    Three weeks post op

Congrats. Glad to hear you are doing well. Just keep trying and you will get to that liquid goal but like arabesque said you are closer than you think.

    Surgery next week

I think there are more people with little to no pain we think. You see more from people who are having issues because they need help with those issues. No real reason to post about everything going great.

    Got my surgery date!

    Congratulations on your surgery date.

    Balloon

I agree with doing your research. I have not heard of a lot of people who are doing that procedure and My surgeon didn’t even offer it. Gotta be a reason for that.
  10. I am not sure what ideal body weight is but I hoped to reach a “normal” bmi but wasn’t able to. I was warned that I may not be able to with bipolar disorder. Statistically, people with bipolar disorder tend to lose a little less. I am close though. I think normal bmi was 164 and I got to 169 then bounced back to 179.

    just venting

Yea two weeks is a long time but just think about the weight you will lose that you don’t have to lose after.

    Surgery next week

I had very little pain post op. From my time on here I have heard of pain all over the map though immediately post op. I think what seems to be the worst for the majority of people immediately post op is the gas pain from the air they fill you up with.

    Surgery next week

I was up walking in recovery which is before they even bring you back to your room.
  14. The insurance coordinators are pretty knowledgeable for the most part. If you have criteria to meet for your insurance it means they do cover the procedure. If anything they will just give you more hoops to jump through but They pretty much have to cover it if you meet the requirements.

    Pre Op Diet Concerns

I would also run it by your clinic just in case. They should know what questions to ask to differentiate it from withdrawal or something else.
  17. Just keep in mind that your body can only absorb so much protein at a time when taking in those larger doses.
  18. My stay was one night. It was supposed to be two but I was doing well so they let me go early.
  19. Not sure if I spelled that right but I just learned today that you can get your sandwich roll basically hollowed out making it much less bready. Apparently most sandwich shops have heard of this. You just ask to have your roll “Canoed”. Just passing it along.

    Getting sandwiches “canoed”

Post surgery ALOT of people find that bread sits heavy in their new tummy. I happen to not be one of them. I am not one of them. I actually learned about it when ordering sandwich with my husband who doesn’t really like bread. I am not really a big cook. It look forward to hearing what you come up with in terms of good low carb bread.

    Introducing Myself- I'm new

Hello and welcome. Stalls can be tough but you are correct that this one probably won’t be your last. If you can stay away from the scale it’s a lot less stressful. I shouldn’t talk though cause I couldn’t do it.

    Post Op Coffee

Well at least you decided not to do it on your bday. That sucks though? So it was just the caffeine. No added sugar. I have Mention of some people having issues with caffeine but this is the first I ever heard it first hand.

    Wish you knew before surgery…

I am 16 months out and haven’t had any issues at all so far but seeing posts like this one sorta make me wish I had just done the bypass as well.

    2nd Day Post Op

Did someone tell you that your shakes had to be room temperature? I was told to try all different temps of beverages and drink it however it goes down best. I have been drinking my protein shakes cold since day one. And if you are allowed caffeine try the premiere protein caffe latte. It has caffeine in it. It’s very tasty.

    Doubling up on Protein

What if you did the clear protein drinks? They are not thick at all so maybe they won’t fill you up.
