Not everyone gets to a “normal” BMI. According to my team it’s not uncommom to settle into a new weight that is slightly obese according to BMI.

I haven’t searched for a therapist post surgery but I have bipolar disorder and I went through five or six therapists before I found one that I like. You need to feel comfortable with someone to share your most intimate thoughts. Don’t give up though, you will find them.

I haven’t noticed a difference but have definitely heard that it happens. I am on medication that reduces mine though so maybe that why.

That’s awesome. Glad to hear it. Just keep sipping and walking and remember you did still just have major surgery so you may feel tired. Just give into it and rest when your body tells you to and it should help you recover a little quicker since we heal while we sleep. I had very little pain as well but I was still wiped out. I took naps daily for a while post surgery.

Surgery is August 1st. Looking for a buddy to see this through
ShoppGirl replied to JeannieB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you don’t get a response here there should be a thread just for people having surgery in august. -
Female hormones pre/post surgery
ShoppGirl replied to KimA-GA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was on the pill so periods were still regular but they were longer and I had breakthrough bleeding for the first three months. -
Hopefully everything went well and you are in your room resting up. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up to it.

Am I doing this right am I broken?
ShoppGirl replied to It'sAlbright's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh good I’m glad you got some fluids to help you out. Idk why some people seem to struggle a little longer than others but I’m glad you are figuring out a couple things that you can eat and getting the help you need from your doctors (the fluids) while you need it. I hope the mashed potatoes worked out for you. -
Surgery seems like a long way away!

Starting new journey what was your timeline
ShoppGirl replied to JourneyOfRabia's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My process took almost exactly 6 months from my initial consult until my surgery date. -
I would think it’s okay to just drink milk sometimes but it would depend on if your team has a minimum calorie goal they want you to be on. I always did a protein shake for breakfast cause I’m not really hungry in the mornings. Still do.

I have questions about hair loss
ShoppGirl replied to Jennycharles2022's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I somehow dodged that one but I hear about it from so many people on here. It’s very common. The consensus seems to be that there isn’t much you can do about it but wait it out. Taking your vitamins and getting in protein of course help some but my team says that those hair regrow products won’t speed up the process. For females, extensions would be a fun way to add volume. -
What do you do instead of eating?!
ShoppGirl replied to Lornapc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This is difficult for me as well. I eat when I am board yet I really don’t have any hobbies that I enjoy doing. But I know what I do like is learning new things and helping others. I was waiting on COVID to go away but had decided that I want to volunteer somewhere. I am now thinking that COVID is never going to go away so idk what to do. Anyways, volunteering is a great way to keep busy and it makes you feel good to help others. Also, if you are a senior you can audit college classes for cheap or free (I can’t remember which). I wish I was old enough to do that. I love school. -
Mini-cheat 5 days post op
ShoppGirl replied to HealthierMe2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The post op diet stages are pretty important. It’s not just about weight loss but about protecting your healing tummy. It sounds like you got lucky that nothing bad happened this time but depending on how that went down it could’ve cause some serious issues that landed you in the hospital. I wouldn’t beat yourself cause what’s done is done but definitely don’t do it again. It’s seriously NOT worth it. -
That is amazing. So happy for you.

I was lower BMI and I had several stalls. They get more frequent the closer you get to a healthy weight.

100+ Lbs gone! 🥳

First plateau at 9 months post op
ShoppGirl replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The loss slows to an absolute crawl the closer you get to your bodies happy weight. I wouldn’t give up though just yet. -
Still stalled, woke up sick, just trying to get by...
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooh man. Being sick is the pits but being sick while caring for someone else is even worse. I hope you both feel better real soon. -
oh i hate you stalls lmao

Can you maybe leave a bike at work or bring it with you and ride it during breaks or your lunch hour?? Not sure what vehicle you have or if your work would let you leave it there. Just a thought. -
Insight/thoughts for someone considering sleeve surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Veebear's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like you are already ahead of where I was at your stage. I didn’t realize that I had disordered eating patterns until post surgery (I eat when board and emotional eating) and I wish I had realized this and got started working on it beforehand like you are. The only real advice I can give is that we are all here to answer questions and cheer you on but your journey will be very much unique. Just don’t compare yourself to others too much. -
Hopefully the OP has worked this out by now but I will add for others. I took colace every day post surgery but I still got constipated so I took milk of magnesia once to get things moving and then started benefiber daily to keep them going. Walmart had a generic powder of benefiber that worked just fine for me and is much cheaper and I just needed a spoonful each morning in my crystal light until I got up to about a full serving size of food and then I was able to wean off of it. Some people do need it indefinitely though.

So Glad it all worked out.

Severe Depression during pre-op diet- NORMAL?
ShoppGirl replied to jessk0560's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely no judgement. You are going through alot of changes and everyone’s body responds different. I would reach out to your prescribing dr and see if you would benefit from an antidepressant. I have bipolar so I have been on one for years but before the bipolar manifested I was on one for situational depression when my grandfather died when I was in college. I don’t know for certain if it will help in this circumstance or they may say it’s not necessary but it couldn’t hurt to ask.
