What sorts of things do you have in them now? Does it have to be something that tastes okay with eggs??

Was Just told not a good candidate for surgery by nutritionist
ShoppGirl replied to SymphonyOfDreams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As for their requesting additional nutritionist visits I would take that as a positive. My psyc evaluation didn’t even get into eating behaviors and my nutritionist visit just consisted of them going over the pre and post op diets so post surgery when I realized that I am a boredom and emotional eater I was on my own. I wish My team had caught and addressed these issues pre surgery. -
Was Just told not a good candidate for surgery by nutritionist

I’m not surprised that she focused on protein. That will be your main focus post surgery. Your fluids, protein and vitamins will be all you take in for a while and since you will be eating smaller amounts they will need to be the main focus thereafter in order to be able to meet your daily requirements. -
You can get broth based soups from your favorite brands or restaurants and strain them through a VERY fine strainer though. Grocery Stores now carry Panara Bread Soups in their deli section and they also have a Walmart brand that are pretty good too and cheaper. Just because you can’t have the chunks doesn’t mean you can’t have a more flavorful broth.

If your talking about pre op I was allowed some food. Just lean meat and low carb veggies in small amounts so that was easier. Post op it really was just shakes or clear protein drinks, broth, sugar free popsicles and jello. Yes it got pretty darn boring but once you get to purées it’s a little better and soft food is even easier. Basically you just gotta think of your food as medicine for the next few weeks. It’s what your body needs right now and it’s not forever.

Personally I wouldn’t want to go into surgery with my body already fighting anything. This is a pretty major surgery and I wouldn’t want my body to go through anything else at the same time. Plus I have heard they are really painful and you don’t want to be in additional pain with your surgery. I would definitely see someone and make sure you are treating the right thing. I would also consider telling the surgeon about it before you go because of the simple fact that you may get there and go through all the steps only for them to see them right before surgery and not do it.

A fluctuation that small could be anything. It could be water, full bowels, it could just be that scales are not 100% accurate. I suggest that you weigh yourself less often if it’s going to get to you. I weighed myself daily but I only recorded it once a MONTH. That way I could see the downward trend for certain. That worked for me but it sounds like it’s upsetting you more than it got to me so maybe you should try once a week or so.

Obviously not until you are approved for solid food but yes. Low calorie, high protein and very portable foods make some of the best choices for snacks and that certainly fits the bill. Just watch the sodium if that’s a concern for you.

Will I ever be hungry again???
ShoppGirl replied to camcam5189's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
As arabesque suggested, the nausea meds your doctor will likely prescribe should help considerably in making eating feel less like torture. It is a bit of a chore for some early out because eating when you don’t feel hungry seems like a waste of time but just try to remind yourself you are eating to fuel and nourish your body. As others have suggested you may miss this period once it’s gone because it will never be this easy to choose the healthier option as it is when your body isn’t screaming out for food. -
Like you I went months without losing and I had to accept that I was not going to reach my second goal. My body was just happy where it was. The fact that you say you are losing inches though makes me think that maybe you should hang in there trying for a bit longer though and see if you are just gaining muscle weight. Losing inches is still losing. I was not exercising other than walking so that was for sure not what was going on for me but possibly what is happening for you. I would wait until I went months without losing on the scale or the measuring tape before I threw In the towel.

Will cravings for sweets and carbs stop
ShoppGirl replied to Giovanna628's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I could tell you that they go away but they really don’t. Once you get past the initial withdrawal it gets easier to stay away from them but soon as you get to maintenance and start having them again they start to look really good again. You just have to continue to make the healthier choices and worm out what is head hunger and real hunger. The good news is that your tool will give you a chance to learn new habits if you choose to and it’s becomes a little easier than it was pre surgery. -
Questions to Ask Before Surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to SpartanMaker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooh. I saw something about size a while back. Not sure if it was sleeve or bypass but people knew what size they got. I thought it was the bypass but I could convince myself to remember it both ways. Lol I just know I wish I had at least asked. I thought about it surgery day about making a joke with surgeon about it and asking for an extra tiny tummy but didn’t. Of course now I have to wonder if asking would have made a difference because my stomach seems to be larger than most. I know someone else that had the same surgeon like 6 months before me and she can eat alot less. Maybe it’s cause my anatomy was different. I guess I will never know. -

I can only imagine. Hopefully they find something at one of your appointments this week. My fingers are crossed for you. -
ISO Appeal letter example
ShoppGirl replied to lolarose13's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow. That just sounds insane. Your probably gonna cost them more money than the surgery costs by ending up in the ER every night of that week seeking help to deal with the unmedicated GERD just to take their stupid test!! Not that they can necessarily even help you without those meds?? I really hope your appeal is approved. -
NEED HELP .... Vitamins and SEVERE GI Distress!
ShoppGirl replied to jojolynn73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry you are dealing with all this. Did you get any paperwork with referrals from the hospital? They don’t always get to the bottom of things at the hospital. They have to make sure you do not have any life threatening issues and they do sometimes stumble on a diagnosis while testing for those major things but they will usually just give you a referral to another doctor for things that come up that are not an emergency. If the hospital didn’t refer you to anyone, I would start with your family doctor. They can tell you what specialist may be able to help you. They can also run your urine or order a lab to run it to see if your infection has cleared or not. I hope you find some answers soon. -
Questions to Ask Before Surgery?

I’m sorry I just realized you are getting bypass. I was sleeve. I guess you could ask about the length of your bypass. if you have a choice in that. -
Looking for road trip podcast suggestions!

I like this American life too. I also like stuff you should know and to tune in to open courses at Yale. -
I haven’t tried them but if you like the sweetness of that brand you could always add a little Splenda to regular oats (if you do artificial sweeteners).

If he hasn’t tried the Hershey zero sugar and the twizzlers no sugar they taste just as good to me too. I believe Hershey makes reeces so I bet those two have similar ingredients.

Length of time on PPI or other antiacid
ShoppGirl replied to Tomo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had sleeve so maybe that’s why but I was not put on any preventative PPI for any period of time. I still don’t need anything at almost a year and a half out. -

Questions to Ask Before Surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to SpartanMaker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask if you have any choice in what size your stomach will be post surgery. I am not even sure if that’s a thing they could have done differently but given a choice I would have preferred mine to be smaller. I was able to eat more than expected at every given phase post op. I just measured my food and stopped when my plate was empty and I still lost weight though so don’t let me freak you out. According to my team at over a year out now my normal meals of about one serving of most things are typical but that’s me eating till I’m satisfied. I never really feel full. I see people on here who eat a lot less and if that is something they control I would have preferred to be on the smaller side. -
7 weeks pregnant 6 months post-op
ShoppGirl replied to LilaNicole20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn’t sound like dumping as most people seem to describe it. Guess the only way to know for sure is to test it out when your past the morning sickness phase. Either way I think I would just steer clear of ice cream for a little while. Congrats on the pregnancy. -
Get ready to blossom
ShoppGirl replied to IrishKatieKat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It takes a while for some of us to see it. In the mirror especially. Even some people lose like 100 pounds and everyone else can of course see lt but they can’t see it themselves. Sometimes planting two photos next to one another helps. You will get there though. Of course it’s not all water weight. You are on the right track. It just takes time.
