My team didn’t really limit carbs either but I try to steer clear of them because for me if I eat them I crave them and my cravings for carbs are stronger than any other cravings. I find the worst are for me are pasta and bread so I try to use lower carb alternatives in moderation.

I am a year and a half out and have been around these boards for the same amount of time. This has popped up quite a few times for many women having unusual or missed cycles, spotting, heavier, lighter, cramping etc. it seems to stabalize as the weight loss slows down. I am on birth control and I had breakthrough bleeding and longer periods for about three months as best as I can recall.

I totally get it, I like to prepare well in advance for things. Since homemade food doesn’t have preservatives, though you could actually end up wasting it if you make it too soon. Perhaps just make your lists of what you want to make for each day and what ingredients you need to buy. That way you are a couple steps closer without actually making it.

I didn’t find it necessary but It could help if you struggle taking small bites. Im Pretty sure they have them at dollar tree.

Those leftover two ounce disposable cups are good later on to measure hummus and sauces/ dressings and stuff. One tablespoon is 0.5 fl oz. Most sauces use two tbsp as a serving so half that cup is one serving. I carry a cooler with me when I am out and about and I always have my salad dressing so if I stop for lunch I have my own which is the yogurt dressing so it’s quite a few less calories. Now I actually carry it in a different container and I eyeball it but that is after measuring it in those containers many times first.

Am I weird?
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t think it’s weird whether someone chooses to share or not share. There is a lot of stigma associated with it and some people are not prepared to deal with that stigma and lack of understanding if they are presented with it. Others are. I think it’s amazing that you are proud of yourself and so willing to share with others. Just Keep doing you!! -
Hello and welcome. The length of the process varies a great deal from clinic to clinic but more so from one insurance to the other. Self pay usually have the fastest process. Your team should be able to give you some idea how long it will be though.

As long as you are not creating a financial hardship or hurting yourself or others in some other way this is actually a very healthy way of coping with anxiety. Sounds like you are a little nervous and taking control of whatever you can actually control in the process. So maybe you end up with a little extra food when you’re done recovering. I say Just donate it to someone or a food pantry if you can’t use it. I actually had a nurse that told me to do this when I had a melanoma. She suggested getting a binder and keeping copies of all my records and pet scans and stuff and taking it to each appointment with me. I never put so much effort into anything as I did in that binder. It helps to know that you are doing everything you possibly can (controlling what you can control at a time you feel slightly out of control). Ooh and you are definitely not alone in doing all the research or stocking up for this surgery either and I actually wish I had prepared more by cleaning cause it’s really hard to sit and stare at the mess post op and not get up and clean things. So I say keep doing what your doing. Just maybe pace yourself cause you still have three weeks.

Hello and welcome. Best of luck on your surgery Wednesday.

How to manage menstrual pain post surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to Aliana Wood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well unfortunately the sciatica issue returned and my surgeon said the injections were okay so I got them this time. They didn’t do anything for the pain, really though so I won’t be using them again anyways I don’t think. Unless they decrease the time it takes to recover or something which so far doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m only on day three though, and last time it took almost three weeks to go away entirely. I have an appointment with my family dr on Wednesday though and Intend to ask about pain management. I will ask about these alternative NSAIDS. -
Vitamins & Supplements?
ShoppGirl replied to DownsizieMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a year and a half out from sleeve and still taking a bariatric multi and calcium citrate. I have wondered about stopping them though. I think I am going to ask at my next appointment about this. -
Scared to go through with surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Softtacocrumbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes doctors are so used to hearing the same old stories day in and day out that they just assume that they have heard them all and quit actually listening. The ONLY remotely logical reason I can think of them wanting you to have surgery while you are actively losing on your own would be if they expect you to lose some and then stop losing. If you lose and get below the BMI threshold you would no longer qualify unless you gained again. My question would be how close to a normal BMI you can get on your own. If it were me I would wait and see how much you can lose on your own. Only you know how you are really eating and if it’s all related to this illness that is now being treated it should reverse itself. You can always have the surgery down the road if you don’t lose like you think you will. Sounds like your gut is already telling you to wait. I say trust it. -
That seems like a likely explanation. Are you logging your fluids? Are you getting close?? I would definitely try getting more fluids but if that doesn’t help mention this to your doctor.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
ShoppGirl replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Does you team allow you mashed potatoes? Physically you should be able to tolerate those too. Those and the pumpkin purée. Some teams frown upon them at any stage but during purée phase I was allowed to have them. Just be sure to plan to get in your protein somehow. -
How to manage menstrual pain post surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to Aliana Wood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update about back pain. Unfortunately my sciatic issue came back so I called and tt someone at my surgeons office. They said that the injections are okay and that they can prescribe narcotics if necessary. Well I went back and got the injections but they really didn’t help much at all. And I asked about the narcotics but they said they don’t prescribe them for back pain. Anyways, I have an appointment Wednesday with my family doctor. I will be asking about this for sure. Seems like our surgeon would be able to prescribe a small amount for pain but I guess they don’t want to get into that business. The surgeons office did tell me that I could because I’m a year and a half out take NSAID’s on occasion as long as I take the heartburn medicine with them and food if it was the only answer. I just don’t see why I should take the risk associated with that just cause they are afraid I have an addiction that I must not have because I have taken narcotics in the past without any issues. I’m not sure which risk is the lesser evil. I’m hoping by Wednesday I will have gotten through the worst of this by just staying in bed on the heating pad during day and with the icy hot patch at night but of course long term bed rest can’t be a solution for this if it’s a chronic thing. Ooh. I also got those thermacare heat things to try which I am not well enough to be up and about yet but I noticed they have them for menstrual pain too. Not sure if anyone Has tried those but heating pad always helped me some before BC when my periods were bad so it’s definitely worth a try. -
Pain six months out. Is this normal?
ShoppGirl replied to Mia may's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really doubt that your probiotic or vitamin would be causing pain but if they started at the same time it’s possible I guess. Could you skip them for a couple days and see if it goes away? Idk about the probiotic but skipping your vitamin for a day or two won’t hurt anything. If it gets worse or if your just a worrier like me you could always go to urgent care for peace of mind that it’s not anything serious. -
Stomach spasms??
ShoppGirl replied to raspberrylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I would still call. Especially since it sounds like it’s a new issue (you didn’t mention it starting in the hospital). Hopefully they say it’s totally normal and will go away soon but Always better safe than sorry. -
Well you may need something else to make you have a movement first. I took milk if magnesia once and after that worked I started the benefiber the next day. If i were you I would talk to the dr or pharmacist and twll them what medicines gave you issues so you can try something with a different active ingredient.
-
What does your team suggest? I was told to take the softener but also to use milk of magnesia if I needed movement. Then after I went I was advised to take benefiber daily until I was able to get more fiber in my regular diet. Walmart has a generic in powder form and a teaspoon a day did the trick. Some people need to do more as a preventative though.

Awful doctor experience
ShoppGirl replied to stillundecided44's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Maybe once you get your surgery and you are recovered and all that you can send that other team an email. Not a rude one (even though he does deserve that a little) but constructive criticism. Thankfully this experience did not discourage you from surgery alltogether but for someone on the fence it could have. So if this doctor actually hears what you say and makes some changes it could help him to help more people. His bedside manner is definitely not your responsibility and you shouldn’t spend one more second thinking about this if you don’t want to but learning his actions cost him a patient may actually open his eyes. For now, focus on your surgery though. That’s the best way to ensure that this guy doesn’t get away with how he treated you. -
Idk if surprised is the right word but I did not consider the possibility that I would go through the surgery and have a bigger than expected pouch. I still really don’t know why but the amount of food I could eat has been more than expected at every given stage since surgery. I never really feel restriction. I mean I do if I try to eat like before but I could always eat quite a Bit more than most others post surgery if I didn’t measure my food and just eat what I should. The good news Is that measuring worked. I was able to reach my conservative goal. I just wasn’t prepared for that issue.
-
Those do the same thing for my friend but I can eat as many as I want without any bathroom issues? Weird how it does that to some people but she uses them the same way. Lol

Low folate, iron deficient anemia…
ShoppGirl replied to thinkt2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My team didn’t check my vitamins beforehand. I was kinda surprised but they didn’t. I am guessing they were fine though cause at my three month post op everything was normal with just a bariatric multi and calcium citrate. -
Awful doctor experience
ShoppGirl replied to stillundecided44's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I seriously couldn’t have said it better than sleevemealone. Or even as good. I’m am glad you have other options and are willing to take the next step towards finding YOUR new surgeon. This is your journey and you deserve a team you trust and respect at the very least, hopefully they will be so much more. -
Should I reschedule?
ShoppGirl replied to aussiedoodlelover94's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that your surgery will most likely still go on if you don’t cheat again but Only you know if you are really ready to comply with the post op diet at this point. If you aren’t certain maybe call now to set an appointment to speak with the bariatric therapist. They can help you determine if you should go through with this surgery now or if you need a little more time to get your mind prepared. This is not just because you want to be In the best place possible to maximize your weight loss but even more important because immediately post op you can Seriously hurt yourself from just one little cheat. Not trying to scare anyone, but you need to be fully prepared to adhere to the post op diet in order to recover safely. If you aren’t ready just yet, there is absolutely no shame In taking a little more time and working with the bariatric therapist on some coping strategies or whatever else you need to get fully prepared.
