Congratulations on your goal and awesome way to reward yourself.

How awesome to hear. So happy for you. I bet you were glowing and sported that uniform better than a fancy suit.

Ooh yea I think it’s insane, but I live in the same town I grew up in (just went away to college and came back) and it has always been that way. I’m surprised that the insurance companies don’t notice the trend and do something to be honest. But it’s a huge waste of our money too. The worst part is all the hospital does is the X-ray to say it’s not broken and then you have to go to the orthopedic dr anyways to find out whats actually wrong. Seems like the orthopedic dr could just order an X-ray up front and skip the hospital and the urgent care. Reality is we should be able to just walk in and get an X-ray without a dr’s permission. But Don’t get me started on all that.

Yay, congratulations on your surgery date.

Well it’s all part of the hospital group but not the same place so I’m not 100% certain how it works. You literally can go into the building by going through the regular doctors plaza or through the walk in clinic but it’s actually separate from both and it was the regular dr, not the urgent care that ordered my X-ray this time. We do have standalone radiology places too but from my experience if you want the X-ray the same day you have to go to the ER. Hopefully I don’t ever need it anyways but that particular walk in was surprisingly efficient too so I think for me it would be worth the try to skip the hospital. I feel like its this little hidden secret that you can do it this way. Kinda like that you don’t have to to admitted into the hospital or even the ER to get fluids. I got them ordered by a dr and you still go to the hospital building but it’s more like an office visit. I’m sure you have seen me say that over and over on here. Trying to save people some money, time and stress of going to the hospital when they don’t have to.

If you don’t mind me asking, I have been researching cookies for my annual cookie day and am quality learning just how many sweeteners are available today. Are they all interchangeable and just a matter of taste preference?? I just purchased sugar free choc chips and mink fruit but I already have swerve (that tasted a little extra sweet to me). The ones you mentioned look easy enough for me. Are the like a sugar cookie??

Thanks. I talked to a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and they told me about the preventative stretches too and I am going today in hopes that they will teach me those. She also swears by her tens unit which I cannot believe I forgot about mine cause that was my lifesaver after a car accident like 18 years ago. I never thought about acupuncture either. I will have to look into that as well I am so sorry about yours moving. I know how bad driving is when your back hurts. Will they come to you when it’s really bad? I know massage people sometimes do that. Anyways, This whole thing may end up being a blessing in disguise cause I haven’t felt like this doctor is the best fit for me for a while. I put up with him cause I was already established and the location was good. Once I calmed down I had the sense to call my old doctor and they said I was still in their system so I didn’t have to do the new patient appointment and I see him Tuesday for an annual exam. I can address the stuff that sorta got rushed through because of all this. Honestly, I’m sure I will be much happier with him. I just needed something like this to motivate me to make the switch.

Mine was a joke. I was there like ten minutes. He asked me about my bipolar and who was treating me and from there I get the feeling he felt like he was sorta off the hook. I donT even think he went over what I expected from surgery.

Omg, it's happening...surgery scheduled for 11/30!

Congratulations on your surgery date. -
Just seems like it will end up costing them more paying for two tests if everyone does it. But I guess maybe some people drop the ball or something. I’m sure they have figured it all out and it saves them money somehow. I was actually kinda amazed to know that you can get an X-ray at the walk in clinic, though. I was there less than a half hour from the time that I walked in!! Anytime I have ever thought I needed an X-ray I have gone to hospital. Now I know to save a fortune I can just go to urgent care and they can do it all right there. Guess that’s one good thing out of all this.

Oh my gosh you have had some really bad experiences. Makes my situation look like more of an inconvenience. I am so glad you are okay. Both of you!!

Scared to go through with surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Softtacocrumbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband says I need to exercise more too. I walk about 45 minutes to a hour a day and that’s about it. The thing is I lost the weight without doing any more than that so it doesn’t make sense that I am gaining now because of that. The doctors keep blaming my antidepressants and my bipolar I just think that there is more to it. The weight gain did all start around 25 though which is also when the symptoms of my illness began so idk. I don’t need a referral for a specialist though, so I think I am going to see one just to rule it out if nothing else. -
Good luck today.

Scared to go through with surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Softtacocrumbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you know what all an endocrinologist tests for? It’s not just hypo and hyperthyroidism, right?? I am in maintenance and struggling big time. I feel like the only way to maintain my weight is to be on a diet (and hungry) for the rest of my life cause I add in a few calories and I gain. I feel like there is something going on with my hormones that my primary doc is missing. I see him today and plan to ask a lot of questions. Just wondering what conditions cause weight gain that I should be questioning him about. -
This is defiantly something to consider. Do you have a link to the recipe for the measurements? I am not really sure if I like dates is the only thing. I guess I won’t know till I try them.

Do NOT compare yourself to others. Everything will be different from your recovery to fluids to weight loss and stalls. Just trust the process and you will lose weight.

Everyone is different In terms of what amount of calories they need to eat to continue losing. It depends on metabolism, activity level, age, etc. You may find that you do not lose at 1500 and need to add more exercise or cut calories but you also may lose just fine at that amount. You may find that you aren’t able to maintain the level of calories required to keep losing the closer you get to a “normal” bmi. I got to six pounds away and I just couldn’t do it. I was hungry and just had to accept that since I didn’t want to add more exercise and couldn’t eat less that I am just not going to reach that goal. I am 5’8” female and I got to 169 and stayed there for months before I decided to go to maintenance which basically meant to keep doing what I was doing. I am not by any means saying give up cause you may still have some to lose but not all WLS patients get to a “normal” BMI. -
Congratulations on your surgery date.

1-week post op; feeling all over the place

I was just thinking maybe this was an option. I wonder if you should check with a pharmacist first. I know it’s just vitamins but if they absorb differently that way an overdose of some vitamins can cause issues?? Better safe than sorry I guess. Ask your team first though because I was swallowing my pills in the hospital. Not huge ones, but not tiny either. I was able to do the chewable vitamins and did those for a few months but I THINK I could’ve swallowed the vitamin if I had needed to. -
Holiday, Family, and Recovery

I would’ve been fine by then but everyone is different. Is it possible to play it by ear?? I would assume you would have a pretty good idea a while in advance. Are they flying or driving?? Will you be working too or is entertaining all you will have to do each day?? I say play it by ear because some of us have very little to no pain and are back to relatively normal within a week. Others it takes a while longer. If I had to guess I would say it’s most likely you will be fighting a little fatigue still at three weeks if anything. Can you just drive separately so if you absolutely need a nap you could go home and then meet back up with them? -

I thought the shakes tasted to sweet as well. Try the clear protein waters. These should count as fluid and protein and while they are sweet they didn’t taste overly sweet like the shakes did. I didn’t realize now many options of clear protein there are. You could start with what they sell at your convenience store so you can try a single. I splurged and for a case of premiere protein clear and luckily I liked it. Once you get to purées you can add unflavored protein to things if necessary or purchase some of the protein soups. I didn’t do either of these, just kept doing shakes as well but I’m sure others will have suggestions on specific products. -
