    Worried About Doctors Honesty

I joked about whether they actually did anything other than the incisions because I didn’t have a lot of pain either and I never felt the restriction when I should. Then I had a theory my pouch could hold more cause I have a longer torso and wondered if that meant my stomach was taller. The NP said she doubts it has anything to do with my height but some peoples pouches are a little larger due to anatomy. Now that I am a year and a half out I still don’t feel restriction per se but I am satisfied with onw portion of most things and I can tell that I wouldn’t be able to eat plates full of food Ike I could pre surgery. I wonder if I am just not in tune with my full cues the same as some others are? did you feel the full cues after your first surgery? I agree with Arabesque that it’s most likely just unhealed nerves and excess acid causing your lack of restriction and hunger pains and those things will work themselves out in time. Definitely ask about a PPI if you are not on one yet And maybe ask for a copy of the surgical notes for your piece of mind.

    Calories

I didn’t even have a calorie goal that early out. I was just supposed to be more concerned with volume of food I was taking in.

What do you eat at the movies?

If you have a Sam’s club they have cauliflower chips that are 140 calories for 24 chips. 7g fat, 18g carbs. They are salty and crunch and tasty too. Moon cheese sounds better for you though
  5. Yea when i did try to eat way slower immediately post surgery I had to heat my meal back up several times

    hospital stay post sleeve surgery

Well they did put a nausea patch behind my ear before surgery and I think there are other meds they can give you before you wake up if you request them which help with nausea.

I am curious to hear how this worked out for you. Have you had your surgery yet?

What do you eat at the movies?

I was told I could have popcorn after a while post op. I think if your team says to stay away from it it may be because it is a slider food (I would ask them). If I just ate from a bag or big bowl and didn’t pay attention I could eat quite a bit and restriction doesn’t kick in. Having said that, I like popcorn at the movies too. I take skinny pop with me in a ziplock and sneak it in. Ooh and if your movie theatre is in the mall it may allow you to bring actual food into the movie from the food court. Now whether you have anything descent to eat at your food court is the next question but Chick-fil-A has soup and nice salads if you have one of those and most pizza places have salads. I like to bring my own dressing when I eat salad out. I must confess I have never tried to eat salad or soup in a dark theatre though. Maybe a wrap if you have a healthier restaurant would be easier or chick fila has grilled nuggets. I don’t go to the theatre much but o have heard of people sneaking in all kinds of healthy snacks though from fruit or yogurt to veggies and dip

    hospital stay post sleeve surgery

Mine was extremely uneventful. The only issue I had was that I wasn’t peeing a lot at a time so they put a little pot in there to collect the urine and measure to make sure I was going enough that I didn’t need a catheter. Eventually my bladder woke up and that wasn’t an issue at all (i was peeing a lot cause of all those fluids). I was in very little pain. I actually asked to be taken off the pain meds and they suggested I do so slowly and then take Tylenol. I left the hospital with an rx for pain meds even though I was just on Tylenol at that point. I’m not sure if this was just out of habit or if they thought the pain may get worse or what but my husband filled it just in case. I never needed them. I really didn’t need to be there overnight to be honest. I mean I probably would’ve been fine if they had just pumped me full of fluids and sent me home but it was nice to know I was being monitored if I had any issues. They ended up sending me home the next day instead of making me stay the second night at least. The only thing I missed was having the bed rails to pull myself up getting in and out of the bed but I soon figured out how to roll out of my bed at home. Anyways, after surgery you go to a recovery unit for a little while and the nurse there was great. She had me up and walking while I was in recovery which apparently people were surprised I was able to do cause they kept calling me a rock star?. I ended up staying in recovery a bit longer than necessary cause they didn’t have a room for me so by the time I was up to my room I was totally with it. I had to ask for them to walk with me the first time cause they didn’t ask me to do it and it had been hours. Then my husband got there and he took me when he first got there and again before he left. Finally I asked if I could just go by myself cause He wasn’t really doing anything to help and I seemed to be fine (I didn’t feel dizzy or anything). I never did have any gas pain either but all I knew was how important everyone said it was to walk so I made sure to do it just in case. I’m trying to remember what else happened. Honestly it was pretty boring. I had my iPad and if you don’t have it you may want to sign up for the free trial of Netflix and you will have plenty to watch at least in the hospital and when you get home. That’s what I did was watch Netflix all day and night. There is a tv of course so you don’t need it but since I have the subscription anyways i brought the tablet and I used it. Ooh and It was noisy at night so I was glad I had my headphones too. Basically that was it though, I wasn’t very sleepy cause I wasn’t on strong meds. I did take a short nap or two but I’m a very light sleeper So I mostly just watched Netflix. I had a little of my broth when they brought it in a couple times and took my meds when they brought those. You can’t shower but they do give you a washcloth to freshen up which I did the next morning and as soon as they said they were working on getting me released I got myself all changed and packed up. I was ready to go home but honestly it wasn’t that bad.
  10. I slowed wayyyy down early out, watching the clock between bites and while I chewed, but I never did have any issues from eating too quickly. I am a year and a half out now and I eat pretty fast. My husband is always joking with me that nobody is going to take my food. Lol I do also measure out my food though and my pouch is on the larger side so I don’t really have a chance to overeat. It is really ideal to eat as slow as you can so that your full cues have a chance to warn you before you overeat.

    Stalled

I feel like you mentioned the carbs because you sorta know you are having too many. Have you been logging them? Everyone’s plan is different, though. Mine didn’t really limit carbs specifically but in order to get In Enough protein there almost wasn’t room for alot of them. As long as you are sticking to your plan it’s probably just a stall which will break on its own but if you are having like a lot a lot of carbs this is definitely something you could consider cutting back on.
  12. Aha. That could work. And it would be an even quicker dinner prep. I guess you don’t have much to lose by trying since it’s garbage otherwise.
  13. Let us know how it goes. I think the trick will be figuring out how to cook it. Do you cook it from frozen or let it thaw? And what time and temp if it’s frozen. May be better to just waste it??

    Plastic surgeon in Houston TX?

Ooh if it’s in another state they may not know anyone (but still worth a shot). You could also try a local weight loss surgery clinic that is reputable. I’m guessing they would be willing to share a name if you ask nicely. At least then you will have a couple names of people with experience with the surgery you want and then you can do your research from there.
  15. Oh yea. I didn’t see that. Ooh cool I’m adding it to my cart right now. Game day pizza. Yumm.

    Plastic surgeon in Houston TX?

I definitely would go for the one with more practice with your particular surgery. I had a melanoma removed by an excellent boob guy and was very dissatisfied with what he did for me.

    Plastic surgeon in Houston TX?

Great idea. And Even of you aren’t still going there routinely I bet they would give you a name and number. Especially as a former patient.
  18. I looked online and can only find the original at my store but I can check the others. Even the thicker one is 150 calories/ 25g carbs per serving. That’s not too bad. I had to convert the calories for the other one cause it’s a smaller serving but it’s 127.5 calories and more carbs (I didn’t calculate) and way less protein for the same slice. And the real one has less fat too. Wow. You were right that cauliflower stuff really isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. At least not that brand. I am so glad you pointed that out to me. I mean the cauliflower crust is not bad but it’s not the real deal. I’d much rather have that in moderation. Especially now that I know it’s really better for me.

    Plastic surgeon in Houston TX?

I don’t have any recommendations for a specific doctor but maybe consider narrowing it down by ones that have a lot of experience working with weight loss patients?? Maybe ask them how many times they have performed that surgery on someone like you?
  20. Hummmm. I’ll have to try it and see if my hubby likes it too. Otherwise I would be wasting a lot cause it’s just the two of us. With the cauliflower crust it’s frozen so I can cut one slice while it’s still frozen and cook just that portion. He likes thin crust though, so hopefully he will like it.

    6 month follow up

You are 18 days out, correct? How close are you to your fluid goal? Getting your fluids is very important but so is getting your sleep. Have you tried putting a glass of water on your nightstand and drinking when you wake up through the night. I started this cause I always wake up with dry mouth years ago but I get in another glass or two. I have noticed that it makes me wake up like one more time to pee but I drink more then, too so it works out. I agree that the support group meetings are very helpful. You shouldn’t need to do anything with social media if you don’t want. That’s usually just an alternative to attending the in person meetings.

    fDL tummy tuck done Tuesday

Congratulations!! I assume you get to take a peek at the work at your follow up?? Hopefully that’s not too far away.
  25. Sleeve me alone covered a lot. Gave some really Great advice. I just want to add congratulations on your loss!! It sounds like you are keeping it off too in spite of your hunger coming back. I am a year and a half out and struggling a bit with regain so I know that is not an easy task. Also, 113 pounds is a pretty significant loss, if the extra skin is bad (as in causing you medical issues) your insurance may cover some plastic surgery as medically necessary. I’m not certain because you have to meet certain criteria based on your insurance but if you didn’t know it’s possible it could be covered in some instances. If you are interested in that option you may want to ask your team if you would qualify. From what I understand for some insurance you have to document it rubbing and rashes and stuff but with others it just has to hang down a certain amount to qualify as medically necessary.
