Looking forward to the Double Take
ShoppGirl replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think some people are afraid to mention it in case it is medical and unintentional. They notice it but either don’t want to be invasive or just don’t want to get into it if it is not on purpose. most likely someone will be bold enough to say it though. -
Yay, one step closer. Fingers crossed you get a date really soon.

Well I actually did a lot of research and it turns out it doesn’t matter when the dr checks your levels, if it’s over 200 you are diabetic whether you have eaten anything or not. It’s a random test and it’s listed on that CDC link you sent me spartanmaker. (And Thank you for that by the way it was very helpful). I did the test today and they said he was looking to see if it was over 140 though which would point to the possibility of pre diabetes but it wasn’t even close. It was 114 after eating worse than I have since my surgery so I’m definitely not diabetic. I also did my labs this morning which included three thyroid tests so maybe something will come of that. If not, I did ask him for a referral to an endocrinologist to make absolutely sure nothing has been missed. He said if my thyroid labs are good he would be inclined to agree with the surgeons that is my bipolar meds making me eat more but seeing an endocrinologist couldn’t hurt for my peace of mind. I have to admit when she gave me the very positive results that I am not diabetic I felt a little let down just for a second. Of course I don’t want a diabetes diagnosis but I AM very much desperate for an answer. Some answer. It’s just so darn frustrating. I just feel like such a failure that I went through with this huge invasive surgery and I am gaining it back. I think I am most annoyed with myself for not asking more questions and pursuing more tests BEFORE I did surgery. I guess what’s done is done though and I just gotta keep trying. I did lose two pounds before my big high calorie meal today. That’s something I guess. Lol

Food after sleeve surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Beantownposse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They tell people that because they are the ones that are there when people come back in for emergency surgery and sometimes even die when things go horribly wrong from that one little cheat. The doctors are there for you, to help you. They aren’t just advising you to do something to be mean. You clearly have your mind made up about what you are going to do and that’s fine you are a grown adult but for others reading this please listen to your doctors. Just because one person has been lucky doesn’t mean everyone will be. Their advice is to keep you safe and the consequences of cheating on the staged return to eating are not just a few pounds on the scale. They can be very serious. -
Yea. Fingers crossed for a super easy recovery.

Belly button pain and discharge.
ShoppGirl replied to carpeediem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never heard of this but I found this on health grades.com. It says “recent” surgery I’m not sure that yours would be considered recent but may be worth a call to ask your team just in case. Either way pain and discharge usually indicate something is going on so I would see a doctor Surgery Abdominal surgeries may pose a risk for potential infection near or in the belly button. These surgeries include umbilical hernia repair or laparoscopic surgery that involves incisions near the belly button. If you had recent abdominal surgery and notice liquid or pus draining from your belly button, it may be a sign of an internal infection. Contact your doctor right away to receive prompt treatment -
Becoming Free by Overcoming

This so so inspiring to hear. Your weight loss alone is incredible but the work you did on your inner self is absolutely amazing. Keep it up. -
I am guessing you are too early out to eat them safely which is the most important thing but they also are not the most nutritious option. That early out your focus should be on protein and if you have room maybe a veggie or two. If you eat a corn tortilla you probably wouldn’t have much room for anything else. Maybe not even the toppings, lol. You will eventually be able to have corn tortillas again in moderation but for now I am thinking they are not your best option.

Food after sleeve surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Beantownposse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Others had very good ideas for alternatives to shakes for protein but if you feel you just can’t do it your better off to talk to your team about progressing to the next step (purées) a bit sooner than skipping ahead as far as steak. At this point it’s not just like you’re cheating on a diet and may gain a little weight. Not to be an Alarmist but You can seriously hurt yourself with just that little bit of steak. Thankfully it sounds like you’re okay this time but that doesn’t mean it will go so well if you did it again. If you tell your team you are tolerating the liquids and all that well and your struggling with the shakes they may give you the okay to advance to the next stage a little sooner. Just try to remember this won’t last forever. And congrats on your loss so far. -
Hope this times a charm...

cold medication after surgery
ShoppGirl replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m glad this came up cause I don’t think I would have thought of OTC medicine as being extended release or not. I don’t know that I would have thought to check. I usually do check with the pharmacy to make certain no interactions with my other meds and I do follow the directions on OTC meds so mayme I would’ve realized if it was one a day but who knows. Luckily I haven’t been sick yet post WLS so who knows. -
Going on 3 weeks in this stupid stall
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m sure they will be thrilled that you are even close to your personal goal. If you feel like going there gives you accountability though you can ask to go more often. When I started gaining they asked me but I’m sure that if you ask they would be thrilled to see you sooner. -
people treating you different

I thought you were gonna say that was just his clever way to get you to share your weight and he never met up with you. I like your version sooooo much better. -
Thanks!!

cold medication after surgery
ShoppGirl replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Idk but i want to continue following this because I don’t want to trip out on cold meds either. Lol -
My family dr is running some labs on my thyroid as well but I am thinking if nothing comes up from any of this that I am going to see an endocrinologist just in case it is something that isn’t cookie cutter for family practice to pick up. I just wish i had explored these things a little more before WLS. I hope I haven’t blown my one chance at it because I seem to be doing things backwards.

Planning out your medicine schedule
ShoppGirl replied to Malkia mzuri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ooh yea the most important thing is that you take that multi if it has iron with food or shake. And I mean like with the last sip of the shake so your tummy is coated. And separate the calcium doses from each other and from the iron. It seems daunting at first but once you figure it out it will just become second nature. I use my alarms on my phone (you can set them to be recurring everyday). I usually remember beforehand and I’m sitting there holding the vitamin or whatever when the alarm goes off at this point but sometimes I do forget even at a year and a half out so I still have my alarms to annoy everyone. Lol -
I haven’t tried them yet but they look delicious and high protein/ low calorie so I wanted to share before I forget. I will try to remember to update when I make them which will be soon I’m sure. https://pin.it/2SayKWl

It sounds like after 20 years together you may be able to talk through this on your own but if you can’t perhaps a therapist can help get to the bottom of it. To me it sounds like there may be a little insecurity on his part but spartan maker presented a really good alternate theory as well. You both have to be completely open to get to the bottom of it, though and I am a true believer that counseling works so my suggestion is to try talking first and if that doesn’t work then consider therapy.

Are you doing shakes. It could be the shakes causing the heartburn and all that?? Maybe try a different brand of shake. In terms of it getting easier it does for almost everyone. Most of us (with the exception of a small few) lose our hunger hormones post surgery so we only have to fight with head hunger which is usually a little easier to ignore. If you do continue to fight head hunger and it’s difficult for you, some people find it helpful to work with a bariatric therapist to get to the bottom of the cravings and learn different ways to cope with them.

In all the comments before the recipe it says that it makes four servings so to get the calories you need to make four.

One tip about the crystal light though. For some reason the fruit punch flavor did not burn like the lemonade and pink lemonade did. I think it’s may have less citrus?

I asked so many questions about loose skin and was told that nothing I could do besides staying hydrated was going to do anything to help prevent it. if you have a lot of weight to lose and have a lot of loose skin though plastic surgery is something to consider down the road and may even be covered by insurance if you meet the criteria.
