What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yea. It’s really touch cooking small amounts. I know alot of people on here freeze a great deal. I haven’t gotten into that yet. I don’t have a ton of freezer space and I’m pretty unorganized so I may be able to do like one thing at a time but I don’t think creating a whole menu of frozen items is really for me. Anyways, i have been going back and forth since I’m pending revision in terms of my eating but when I a being good I eat a lot of salads. I love southwest and taco salads as well as market salad (a Copycat of Chick-fil-A salad that has chicken, nuts and fruit). @NickelChip suggested salmon on salad but I’m not a fan. I think I will try mahi mahi instead I just gotta figure out what else goes with that. I also like low carb wraps. I do a cheeseburger one, Philly cheesesteak (using deli roast beef that I just skillet fry for a few seconds), and grilled chicken Caesar. When I’m feeling extra fancy I will do chicken or beef stuffed peppers or zucchini boats with sausage. And when I’m craving Italian I will like cauliflower crust pizza or this low carb Italian bake I just found that’s basically lasagna without noodles but with Italian sausage (it’s low carb but but necessarily low calorie). That is pretty much my entire menu though which is why I am really hoping to expand my horizons. I get board and thats When I am tempted to eat off plan. -

I’m the same way. I am just seriously not much of a cook and im a picky eater so my menu options are limited. But I’m limited even further because my husband won’t eat what I eat so I’m cooking for one. -

Let us know how the chicken turns out. I seen a recipe for a chicken dish that had a mexican flaire. I remember it used taco seasoning and had corn and tomatoes but that’s about it. -
4 nights away need inspiration

Not everyone gets to their protein goal right away and that’s not the end of the world so long as you are trying Your protein shakes count as both fluid and protein though and they usually have 25-30g each so it shouldn’t be as hard as you think with the shakes. Fluids are the mist important thing immediately afterwards. For most of us, drinking gets easier by the hour as swelling goes down. I actually had no issue drinking from day one. I also wasn’t in any pain and was off all pain meds before I left the hospital. I did need a little more sleep than usual but it wasn’t like other surgeries where I needed pain meds and I was more groggy constantly. With those surgeries I woke up to my alarm to take meds or whatever and had no problem going right back to sleep though so you should be fine either way. As far as hunger your hunger hormone is reduced. Most of us do not feel hungry at all. But as you should see on the pre op diet. The protein in them shakes is surprisingly filling anyways. Also, if you were not getting a little bit nervous by now you would be the exception and not The rule. Just try to keep your eyes on your goals. If you haven’t set one check out the “weirdest non scale victories” thread. There are some pretty good ones that you may not have even thought of yet. -
You are definitely not alone. @Arabesque pretty much covered the how and why, but it is definitely a crazy, emotional ride for a lot of us. It does get better though, for me it was a little better each day and didn’t last too long. Just remember to be kind to yourself. You are doing great!!

I am pending a revision surgery from sleeve to Sadi and the Dr did not mention the pre op diet at all. Then the lady comes in with the paperwork and said if he didn’t mention one then I should just do one or two days of liquids. She said she was gonna say two days for now and would let me know if it was one. Well I called and the girl at front desk said yes its Two days but I just have this nagging feeling she just looked at the paper where the other lady wrote two days and I’m not certain anyone asked the dr to make certain. Has anyone getting revision had A shorter pre Op diet Such as this I don’t want to do it if I don’t have to but I also want to make it easy for him to do it safely which I know is the point

Only two days pre op diet
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That’s would make sense for many people getting revisions but I don’t think it applies to me. I am 15 pounds heavier now than when I started all of this the first time. -
Thanks. My friend was just telling me about This product the other day as Well and I have it in my Walmart cart for my next order already. She hasn’t had the surgery though so good to hear the recommendation from someone who has. I have a zillion things that are running through my mind causing anxiety as this surgery date gets closer and the bathroom stuff is a biggie for me. I absolutely hate using public restrooms already when I have to do more than just pee and the thought of not being able to help but go in public and having it smell really bad is a pretty unpleasant one. I’m sure like everything else I will get over it once I’m forced to but it’s one of the things that keeps popping up that is unsettling.

I have never tried it but if you haven’t already I would strongly suggest telling your doctor that you are on this diet or even a strict keto diet and ask them to do the appropriate labs to monitor things. There is a book called Brain Energy by Dr Christopher Palmer that talks about the Keto diet and how it can help with mental illness. I found this very interesting so I listened to a podcast on which he was a guest and he cautioned that the keto diets should always be under the care of a physician. He named off a number of things that need to be monitored while on the diet. Some of the things that need to be monitored can be quite serious if left unchecked.

Constant nausea and dry heaving
ShoppGirl replied to lissyt83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
A good way to try different shakes without investing quite as much is to find a convenience store that has a variety of them individually. I’m not sure how many non dairy or other less common versions they will have but I guess it’s worth checking out. Hopefully you find one you can tolorate and you can one by one add things to it to increase the nutrition. Maybe just start by not adding the yogurt to the ones you are making since dairy does seem to be a common issue that people develop post surgery. Also, it could be the sugar in the fruit is too much or even the peanuts in the peanut butter. Maybe try almond butter or something else?? Like @SleeveToBypass2023I suggested, i would just keep trying all different store bough shakes or even differnt combos of the homemade ones until you find SOMETHING you can keep down. Once you do you can add to it from there. -
Lap Band Removal - how did you feel?
ShoppGirl replied to poppystummy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There aren’t a ton of people around that have the lap band still but they are out there. If you post to some of the existing threads about lap bands the people who contributed to them should get an alert that there is new activity. Perhaps doing that will get the attention of someone who has had their band removed and can answer your questions. That’s what i had to do with the SADI since it isn’t all that common. I hope that helps 🤞 -
Constant nausea and dry heaving
ShoppGirl replied to lissyt83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m sorry to hear this it sounds just awful. Have you tried other shakes. Maybe it’s something in the ones you are making that you have an aversion to?! Maybe it’s the dairy in the yogurt. -
Congratulations on your loss. It’s not nothing, every bit you lose makes you that much healthier so try not to think of it as ONLY 70 pounds. Take it from someone who thought like you did and stopped trying. I ended up gaining it all back because I was ashamed and felt like a failure. Obesity is complex. You are not a failure. You just need more help. If you haven’t already, make an appointment with your surgeon. They should have some tools to help get you back on track. If they have a live support group you may find that helpful as well as posting here.

For those of you who have an avatar or an image for your profile picture, where do you go to get that?
-
I was going to suggest contacting your team as well. Maybe give them a ring Monday to see if they have any sooner openings?

I want to say I was at least 6 months out. I was back to eating totally normal. I had planned to follow the rule but one day I just forgot and nothing happened...so I went back to straws when I was out at first and then eventually I started using them at home too.
-
I waited a while before I tried it after my sleeve but then started and I drink everything with a straw now without issued. Funny thing is that I am pending revision so I said I need to practice drinking without a straw again and I swear I keep choking myself trying to drink normally. That has to be creating more air than the straw. 🤷🏼♀️

Lol. Sounds like something a son would say to their mom. A friend of mine told me about a product called pou pouri that they use at her work since they only have one small bathroom for everyone. I found it on Walmarts website but they have it elsewhere. A pack of three small ones for ten bucks. They sell bigger ones too but I am most concerned for when I am away from home so the smaller size is good for me. They have a pretty comical animation on the manufacturer website that demonstrates that it puts a barrier on the top of the water that somehow blocks the smell and makes it smell like flowers. Anyways, she hasn’t had any bariatric surgery but claims it helps a pretty good deal for their situation so I’m going to give it a shot.

Oh, maybe. 🤔

I think you are doing amazing!! You don’t have your weight and surgery stuff filled in on your ticker so I can’t see the pounds or anything but I can see a significant difference In your pic and that’s what really matters anyways. it’s hard to patiently wait for the pounds to creep down but once the year or so is over it will actually feel like it went by pretty fast. Just keep doing what you are doing. You will get there!!

One year anniversary!
ShoppGirl replied to FifiLux's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Anniversaries of traumatic events can be really tough. You may want to ask your therapist how to handle this date in the future if it is difficult for you again. I have a couple of dates that are particularly difficult for me and it does get a little easier as time passes but it’’a Even stranger after more time has passed when it seems to come out of absolutely nowhere. It’s like why does a date on the calendar trigger such strong emotion when I’ve been doing so good. Just try to remember that it is just the date that’s getting you and most likely you will wake up the next morning feeling more like yourself. Your therapist know you best so be sure to follow their advice but mine would’ve told me to go ahead and stay in bed all day if that’s what I needed. There are days when I feel like I need to get out and push through or go and pamper myself when I am depressed but there are others when what I need to do is stay in my pajamas and lay around binge watching some stupid show. I allow myself to do just that with zero guilt. You would feel fine doing it if you had a terrible flu so why not take care of your mental health just as well. Oh and if you have to tell a little white lie to certain people that you have a physical illness because they don’t understand mental health, I say so be it. Just take care of you. -
Dr is great but his team is Not.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never thought about the patient portal. I have one for the main group of doctors in my area that encompasses most everyone but they are not in that group. I wouldn’t have signed up for it untill/ unless I absolutely needed it because it’s one more password to keep track off. lol. I wonder if they do have one. That would certainly be most helpful here to bypass that front office entirely. Thanks. 🙏🏼 I know that I gotta stop worrying about what people think. My best friend is polar opposite of me and she is on me all the time for it. I have gotten to be better but I swear to you that stuff gets ingrained DEEP. What’s ironic though is that when a people pleaser meets their threshold they are an absolute force to be reckoned with. I am working on just skipping the bs and getting right to the force that gets things done. 🤣 -
Meds- no insurance
ShoppGirl replied to Kellz1's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
Are you talking about surgery or the glp- meds or some other meds? For surgery some people choose to go out of pocket and some stay within the states (the dr should have a private pay rate). For GLP-1 meds they do make compounded versions of them that are a little cheaper. Frankly most insirance doesn’t cover them so lots of people are going that route. They offer them here in the store on this site but I can’t vouch for them. I’ve never tried any of them. The other diet drugs that are less expensive you could probably go to like good rx and get a coupon code for a pharmacy near you and get a better price than retail. Phentermine is one that I have heard some people have success with. You will need to see a dr for the script and they most likely will do an ekg before they give them to you since it is a stimulant. There are a few others but that’s the only name that is coming to mind right now. I will tell you ahead of time though if you are a night eater. Like you eat all through the night the phentermine won’t do much for you because you can’t take it at night or you can’t sleep and once it wears off it doesn’t do anything of course. It did curb my cravings so I could make healthy choices through the normal day though. -
So don’t know what BF is but I am hoping that combo is working now.
