How Much Iron Were You Told You Needed Daily?
ShoppGirl replied to Hey Man's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are so many opinions about what vitamins people are told to take immediately post op any even more variations of what they stay on once people get labs back and realize that our bodies all respond differently to the same surgery. If your doctor isn’t concerned about your iron I would keep an eye on it with your labs but I doubt it’s low enough to be responsible for hair loss. A stab in the dark though, did you have COVID lately by any chance. A friend of a friend of mine got COVID and then started losing her hair several weeks afterwards. A quick google just revealed it’s referred to as hair shedding and it often follows a very high fever that comes with COVID and one site suggests biotin. If this applies to you maybe do a little more research into it. Otherwise I think a trip to the dermatologist is a good next step if your doctor didn’t see any explanation in your labs. -

Whatever your pre op diet, try to eat relatively healthy a week before that. Don’t go from doing food funerals one day to the liver shrink diet the next because the cravings will be that much worse. For me, carbs make me crave more carbs so i cut them completely the week before while I could still eat any portion of other stuff I wanted so that the pre op diet was a little easier and it wasn’t bad. -
Hummm. Well, you could try biotine for the dry mouth but I would still contact your surgeon if you can’t get fluids down.
-
I don’t think I totally understand. I don’t know why your mouth is bothering you and I can’t think of what that would have to do with the surgery. If it’s some sort of dental pain you probably need a dentist but If it’s because liquids won’t go down and you were doing fine getting them down before I would definitely contact your surgeon. Did you go to the er for fluids? What did they say about whether it could be surgery related?? As for protein, they also make clear protein waters. Have you tried those??

Just really need some encouragement if anyone will

Sounds like others have pretty much covered what I was going to say but just know that you are not alone in this. Keep posting here and keep doing what you’re doing. You’re doing great. -
Thank you all for your suggestions. It helps to just know that I am not alone in this. Some of these options I have never even heard of and others that I had forgotten. For starters, I am one of those people that has the tv on 24/7 just for the background noise and I always turn it to a familiar show at night so the tones do not wake me. I absolutely cannot sleep when it’s quiet but I’m sure the light from the tv is not helping me now. If I go to a friends house or the power is off or something, I listen to podcasts and I think maybe I need to switch to that to eliminate the blue light for starters and I definitely want to do some research on that red light as well Also its curious you mention the hot shower at night @ms.sss because I recently started sweating at night dampening my hair and bed clothes (I assume it’s the beginning of the change) so I switched to morning showers… maybe that’s playing a part In all this. Perhaps until I get back on track I need to take a second shower or bath. I guess I won’t have the sweating excuse for not doing a little cardio at night either. I had a really bad experience with Ambien years ago so I want to steer clear of the prescriptions if at all possible. Two of you mentioned the ashwagandha. I hadn’t heard of that one. I will have to ask my dr about that with my other meds too. Another friend just told me that she has had luck with that magnesium that you spray on your feet for anyone reading this later. I am so relieved to know that there are so many things to try. Something has to work so I can get some 💤. Thanks again.

Wow. You have been through so much. I am so happy for you. Your smile shows how proud you are of yourself as you should be!! Congratulations. -
Congratulations. I think it’s pretty normal to be at least a little nervous.

Some of you may already know that I am 3.5 years post sleeve and have been pending a revision surgery for a while now. I have spent the past several months doing research and several tests to decide which surgery will be most appropriate for me and we have finally decided to go through with the SADI surgery and I have a date in early August. I am a bundle of emotions. I am a great deal more nervous this time around. I think it’s partially because this is a riskier procedure witb more serious side effects but I think it’s also because I am taking this a lot more seriously this time. I am really afraid of failure. I feel like I already failed once so what if I go through all of this only to not lose or lose and gain it all back again like last time. The surgeon said that the sleeve is a good fit for a lot of people but obesity is really complex and some just need a more aggressive surgery with greater metabolic change to be successful. He said his patients have had good results with the SADI-S and the sleeve to SADI revision. So i am also really hopeful and excited that it will be different for me this time. I don’t think I have totally wrapped my mind around it yet though because I am not counting down the days and wanting it to get here sooner like I was last time. I’m kinda glad to have a few weeks to get there mentally.

How are you doing?

Rapid gastric emptying. Possible treatment.
ShoppGirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had the sleeve three years ago and gained my weight back. I am pending revision and the dr did an endoscopy and found a hiatal hernia and some gerd. He then ordered a UGI and a gastric emptying study to get some more information to decide which surgery is most appropriate. I just finished the gastric emptying study and after only two hours the food was completely out of my stomach which may explain why I always feel hungry a couple hours after I eat. I am hoping maybe there is a treatment to slow down my stomach emptying and I won’t even need surgery or if I do it will be more successful this time. I see the dr in a week and I’m sure he will have an answer but I’m just curious if this is truly faster than normal and if anyone else has had this issue. -
I am still pending my revision. My dr ordered a few tests to help him decide between the Sadi and the bypass as a revision and the SADI. I see him on Monday and hopefully I will have some answers.

Having second thoughts.

You may not want to stock up on too many. People’s tastes often change post surgery. Especially for sweet stuff. If you find some you like they may have most likely are for sale on Amazon and you can get them in a couple of days. -
Hubby said I can share this

Amazing progress. Both of you!! Keep it up. -
I am definitely not an expert when it comes to bruises but I know they do change colors. I Just don’t remember if they get darker or larger or what. I can definitely see a difference though. I would personally call my Dr and ask if you can just email them the pictures explaining how it feels as well. I am in the save myself the mental anguish camp. You are paying them after all.

Looking for weight loss reassurance..
ShoppGirl replied to Raevor85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are so many factors that play a role in the ideal rate of loss for an individual I would ask your team this question since they have all the information about you and your history. -
I haven’t heard about colace specifically but I have heard of MANY people on here having to take a capful or whatever of laxatives daily for life post surgery. Haven’t heard of any issues. I assume your dr would be up to date on any issues since it seems to be a common thing.

I think I’m going to try not having breakfast like @ms.sss and @Spinoza. I didn’t eat breakfast pre surgery but the NP emphasized how important it was to eat earlier in the day and the dietician said that’s why I’m more hungry later on. I always felt like that just made me eat more in a day but I listened to my team. I know that alone isn’t what made me gain all my weight but it is still calories. I just have to get used to taking my multi vitamin with another meal. Someday I will figure out what works for me. 🤞 -

I actually think maybe it’s because that test is more commonly done to diagnose delayed gastric emptying the more I read about it. So im sure mine was fast compared to people with that issue. I just wanted to think the tech was on to something and it was a possible answer to my struggle with weight and it would hopefully be an easier fix. -

Thanks. The more I read I think it’s pretty normal too. The tech said it was the fastest he had ever seen. I Guess that’s why the techs aren’t really supposed to tell you anything. -

Stomach flu recovery time?
ShoppGirl replied to Fred in Pa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the sleeve three years ago and I have had the stomach flu and don’t recall it lasting more than 24 hours. I know that the stomach size is the same as the Sadi? I think I would go to the Dr if it hasn’t gone away. At least you will know for the future if it does just take a little longer like you mentioned. -
Today I tried Panara Breads Cobb salad. I did not like the green goddess dressing but my aunt absolutely loved it. I ate my sandwich and brought the salad home to eat with my bolthouse farms yogurt ranch and it was delicious. I got half sandwich and half salad and that was enough for lunch and dinner. I also like chick fila’s market and south west salads and recently tried Wendy’s apple pecan salad which was okay but the second time it gave me an upset stomach which was weird. Where else can I get a good salad. I am looking for places that I can go with others that are not on a diet.
