So I am gathering supplies For my upcoming surgery and I am thinking I will try this infamous bone broth everyone has been talkimg about. I am just curious what brands are good. What I should expect it to taste like. If there is a way to jazz it up. Stuff like that.

Weight gain three weeks post op
ShoppGirl replied to TwinkleToes87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I remember gaining a pound or two and always just figured it was the time of day or whatever. You know one salty meal or a full bowel can make a two or three pound difference. To this day k weigh two or three pounds more in the afternoon than morning time. Your loss will not be a straight line downwards, but it will trend down. Everyone says it and I know firsthand how hard it is to listen because I didn’t but try to stay off the scale for a while in between because then you will see the real losses. After my sleeve surgery I would weight myself daily but i only recorded it one day of the week so I could better see the number decreasing. Even still it didn’t always go down so honestly if you’re self disciplined enough, weighing like once a month would probably save a ton of mental anguish. -
I have found my saving grace!!
ShoppGirl replied to Dchonlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been drinking crystal light for years but the dietician I just talked to said that too much if the sweetener in that is pretty bad for you and she suggested true lemon. The only problem I have is that I don’t like the lemon or lime and those are the only two flavors that come in value packs or pitcher packs so they are kinda expensive and a pain to be making them one at a time (not to mention difficult to find in stock near me in the flavors I like). I really just hate plain water. I am hoping that changes with my upcoming revision and I can just use the flavor packets for something different once in a while. -
Thanks. I would say that’ seems impossible for me because I am one to add salt to everything but post surgery you never know.
-
Thanks for the reminder. My tastes didn’t drastically change last time but I guess they could this time. What did change was My cravings and preferences. I used to reach for salty food pre surgery aa a snack and post surgery I still love my food salty but I crave sweets most of the time as a snack. I’m hoping that changes back with the revision. Especially since when I do want something salty I’m not satisfied with just that. I have to finish it off work something sweet right after. I have learned to kist do a small portion of the salty thing and try to do a small portion of the sweet thing but most of those are single serve like yogurt and yasso bars so I usually finish it. I still think that is the oddest change. Especially since the one question my surgeon kept asking was if I eat alot of sweets before he steered me to the sleeve. Prior to surgery i had sweets maybe a handful of times a year (usually on holidays when someone really pushed them). Now I have them daily. 🤷🏼♀️

Wow. Thanks so much for this. I definitely will be purchasing it in the store but I may try to add some seasonings to it since I don’t particularly love broth and I read that the flavor of one broth is often less intense

Modified Duodenal Switch
ShoppGirl replied to Lara in Arkansas's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Instead of posting this as a new topic I’m hoping to get the attention of those who have already had this surgery so I’m posting here. I have a question about SADI vitamins but I think the experience of Duodenal switch is pretty close with vitamins. So I thought I had really found something great when I came across the pro care health Sadi/ DS multi with iron and ADEK. . Then I started googling and the 60mg of iron in them is toxic and potentially fatal for normal anatomy. I realize we won’t absorb as much of some vitamins but since we dont know exactly the degree of malabsorbtion would I be better to start with a little lower iron like 45mg and up it if my labs are low? I already ordered two bottles of those capsules because I had points from this forum and they sell them in the bariatric pal store but now I’m thinking I may just take them a couple times a week or something. Just curious what amount if iron others take who are a little while out from SADI or DS. -
Only two days pre op diet

Of course she also didn’t know much about my surgery just like the other one. Total waste of money. But it satisfied the insirance requirement. 🤷🏼♀️ -
Only two days pre op diet
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I talked to another nutritionist today and she has only been working with my dr for 6 momths but was kind of surprised I wouldn’t have a liver shrink diet. I decided that I’m just going to do one week just to be safe. It will be one less thing for me to be anxious about if nothing else. -
I had gastric sleeve 3.5 years ago and It went really smoothly. I remember being so super anxious but the best thing I did was to just tell the staff so they were all patient with me and did an excellent job of distracting me throughout the process of getting me prepped. When I got there the first thing they asked me to do was a pregnancy test (urine sample). Turns out I couldn’t pee so they rushed a blood test so no big deal. Then they had me change into a gown and hospital socks and put an iv into my hand. They asked me a bunch of questions about allergies and when I last ate and drank and all that stuff and the anesthesiologist came in and asked some questions about medical history. The surgeon popped in to say hi and then I was off to the operating room. Last thing I remember is them saying to take a couple deep breaths and then I woke up in recovery. I did freak out a bit then because no one told me I would have a nerve block in my stomach which makes it feel impossible to sit up and I wasn’t expecting that when I woke up. Of course the nurses are sitting right there and one explained what was going on right away and I was fine. They had to wait for a room for me so I was in recovery a little longer than normal so they had me up walking while I was still in there. After that I drifted off to sleep again and woke up in my room. Honestly I felt fine. Other than my stomach felt like I had done a bunch of crunches. Not pain, just sore when I tried to sit up. I didn’t have any of the gas pain that some people describe. They were a little concerned that my bladder didn’t wake up quite as quick as they expected so they put a basin in the toilet to measure it and when I did go and said they may have to put in a catheter if I didn’t go soon but I went shortly after and my output was normal So that wasn’t an issue. They gave me little medicine cups to drink water out of and again I was lucky and had no issues drinking small amounts. Then I think it was dinner time they brought a tray with broth and jello if I remember correctly. And crystal light. They brought in my daily meds and I asked them to take me off the pain meds because I didn’t feel I needed them. My husband showed up after work and we took a couple walks and then I went back to sleep. The next day I went home shortly after lunch. The whole time I was there they were pumping me full of fluids via IV. as far as the liver shrink diet mine was pretty lenient. Basically low carb it was a shake for breakfast and lunch and then lean meat and veggies for dinner. One thing I did to make it a little easier was to stop all carbs the week before so I could go through all them carb cravings while I could at least have as much of the other stuff as I wanted. I was also allowed some “free foods” like pickles, lettuce and jello which helped me feel like I was getting something. The dr did tell me afterwards that he could tell that I did a really good job on the liver shrink diet so I guess it really does make a difference for them to make the surgery safer.

I live in the US but here my doctor actually sends the list of what he wants to my PCP asking them to order the labs. If I was you I would run that question by your doctor and explain your reasoning for it. Maybe there is a third option Ike both of them sending their requests to the lab at the same time and the lab eliminating the duplicate tests if they draw blood for both orders on the same day??

Anyone Annoyed with the "Stop losing weight"
ShoppGirl replied to AmberFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Would it be wrong to ask why don’t you come along to my next follow up and discuss this with my doctor because all my labs and his medical expertise say I am perfectly healthy. If you know something he doesn’t I’m sure he would love to hear you out. 😂 ahhh if only I would have the guts to actually say it. lol Sometimes I seriously think that people actually NEED us to be the heavy friend/daughter/niece/whatever in their life because it makes them feel better about themselves. Whatever their insecurity is they always make themselves feel better by saying at least I’m not obese (I’m not smart or funny or beautiful but at least I’m not as big as so and so). It’s really sad that some people who claim to love you are actually keeping score but unfortunately some are and they would rather keep you down than to deal with their own issues. if they know that the weight loss is intentional and that you are under the care of a physician that should be the end of it. Beyond that the benefit of the doubt that its genuine concern goes out the window. I mean seriously what gives anyone audacity to think that their opinion matters more than your own and that of your medical team. -
I am not sure about the hunger if you have teied the above suggestions such as warm tea and broth and that doesn’t help. I would talk to your team about the dizziness though and then you can mention the hunger too.

How do I update my weight on profile
ShoppGirl replied to Charmed Holls's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I did that a long time ago but I do remember you have to be on a computer as opposed to tablet of phone. -
I didn’t really know to ask that question at my pre op appointment and I don’t see the surgeon again before surgery day. I do see my primary Dr for pre op clearance so hopefully she will have some answers but I was hoping to get some first hand answers.
-
Did you have the Sadi or the Ds? I am of course concerned about peeing too but I am more concerned with the other bathroom issues that often come with those particular surgeries.

Try not to let some arbitrary numbers be the determining factor if you feel that you are successful or not in all this. I had sleeve 3.5 years ago and several things went wrong along the way to add up to my eventual regain but I honestly think the main reason I failed was because I was so upset with myself that I did not reach the goal my dr had for me that I eventually said screw it and allowed myself to gain it all back (plus some). I was so close though. I am 5’8” and got down to 168 which was 18! Pounds from his hopes for me and a relatively healthy weight that I would be thrilled to be now but I got in the way of my own progress by all or nothing thinking and I let what that scale said or didn’t say be the most important thing in life!! Try to focus on all the non scale victories along the way. I think it was only 10% of weight lost that reduces many of the comorbidities that are brought on by obesity. You are healthier already than when you started all this. Try to celebrate that and all the little victories along the way and keep your focus on the important stuff. This is your journey and you will do great if you stick to your plan and remember it is about your getting healthier and nothing else. Especially not how you compare to others. Just do you and you will be living your best life before you know it. I’m rooting for you.

That’s five pounds a week. That seems great to me!! Just stick to your plan and remember that you didn’t gain it overnight so it won’t come off that way either.

MY FIRST TIME PUKING😿
ShoppGirl replied to Dchonlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Idk why it doesn’t feel as bad but I can tell you that just a little applesauce wouldn’t be enough for me to take my vitamin either. The best thing I found to take it until several months out when I could eat a little more was a protein shake. Just be sure to take it AFTER you have consumed the ENTIRE shake. I took it after half and even 2/3 and it came right back up. Also, it’s usually the iron in the vitamin that causes the issue so some people have to get one without iron and take their iron separate. -
Alot if people substitute plain greek yogurt for the Mayo but I didn’t like that (if you like sour cream you may) so I just used the lower fat Mayo since I wasn’t eating much. Which reminds me, you can also do egg salad. That uses way less Mayo and it’s softer to begin with.

My sleeve surgery was a few years ago and apparently some things have changed. I got some of the premiere vanilla shakes that I drank immediately pre and post op and I couldn’t even get a whole one down. I remembered that I did get sick of them and I switched to their clear protein drinks but apparently they are not as popular because they aren’t as readily available. I was thinking something from the grocery store makes more sense so I can get it if I’m out and about plus I don’t have to buy it by the case. Does Anyone have any favorites. I don’t like peach or orange.

I googled And there are a few more reasons to stay away from caffeine and even decaf to a certain extent. These include the acidity upsetting your new smaller tummy And it interfering with the absorption of certain vitamins and nutrients. And again, there may be more. Just be certain that you are following your teams advise.

Unexpected weight loss problems or almost problems.
ShoppGirl replied to Arabesque's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
How frustrating. Once it recognized you they should have let you restyle your hair and take another one. It’s kinda scary that we are so reliant on technology they don’t know what to do when there is an outlier like that. -
What was your “Moment” ?
ShoppGirl replied to GrannyMaggie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My moment this time around was when I seen a picture of myself with all the women during a holiday party. It was so abundantly clear that I wasn’t just the biggest one in the room but I looked absolutely miserable. A time that should be nothing but fun with family and friends and I didn’t even feel like I belonged. I am just not comfortable in my own skin at this size. Then a couple of my labs started creeping up even more and that was the final straw. -

Congratulations on your weight loss. I hope your sweating issue has resolved with your being closer to goal. I have question though? Do you recall the name of the rx your dermatologist gave you for sweating? I have a similar issue which I know is exacerbated by my weight but even when I lost weight with the sleeve it was still an issue. It’s horrible to live with. I have seen every specialist and had every test I can think of. My dermatologist gave me oxybutwnin which was great for my bladder but did nothing for the sweating. I would be thrilled to know that thete is another option.
