Hello @BigDane looks like we Will be pretty much be going through the stages together. How is the preop diet going? I was told by the nurse that since he didn’t mention a preop diet I just needed to do a two day liquid diet but last time he had me do a week long liver shrink diet first. I’m just going to do that to be safe. The smaller the liver is the safer the surgery is with the added bonus it’s less weight to lose after. -

@LadyJGrey Awesome plan to start the walking and the food logging now. They have a few apps to help with that if you aren’t aware. I like Baritastic. It’s free and pretty user friendly. Good luck with the quitting smoking. Everyone is differnt but my trick was to NOT throw out my cigarettes. I actually carried a full pack around everywhere I went with a lighter taped to the top to remind me that I didn’t want to smoke them. The worst thing to me when your craving something is to think of the craving getting worse And becoming unbearable (and knowing we have to go to the store to buy some still make that even more scary) but we give in too soon to avoid the fear of it possibly getting to that absolute worse. We are stronger than we think. I told myself that I could always wait a little while longer because they were right there if it got so bad that I couldn’t take it . Surprisingly feeling like I had them right there whenever I wanted gave me the choice which was such a sense of control that it made me realize that I was so much stronger than I gave myself credit for. Everyone is differnt but it worked for me. I’m rooting for you. -

@Averdra the bariatric therapist thing is an excellent idea. Many people on here swear by them. For most people the eating and not drinking is a pretty easy lesson to learn because most people vomit if they don’t follow that rule. I was the exception who got pretty lax about that over the years so I am mindful of that as well. A tip for easily getting in uour protein once your past the phase eating stages is to cook a couple chicken breasts or cuts of fish, whatever protein and keep in fridge . Then make them into differnt things each night or just prepare several of the same meal and freeze leftovers. When it comes to variety, perhaps you can give me some tips. And to increase water try varying the temp of fluids. Warm, not hot tea and broth go down easier for some people with the added bonus that they tend to make most people feel more full. Some people even find that they prefer room temp liquids post surgery. Then there are of course flavor enhancers as a last resort (the artificial sweeteners aren’t ideal so if you can avoid them by all mean do) but they are very tasty and they are making new ones everyday. Just google sugar free drink and you will see plenty that look good. Also remember that ALL fluids count towards you goal to include soups, jello, popsicles and even yogurt if i remember correctly. -

Ps. Ignore my ticket for now. I need to drag out passwords and all that to use my computer to update all that. The weight is correct but obviously I am preop and my goal weight that by Dr had for me before and now is 150’ I just put 180’ at my therapists suggestion because it was a more achievable goal I thought I could reach more easily and still be happy. Turns out I wasn’t happy enough but a story for another time. -

Hello everyone. I had gastric sleeve 3.5 years ago and I am pending revision to a SADI on August 7th. I am doing quite a bit more research this time and I’m a great deal more nervous this time. I think that’s in part due to the complexity of the surgery and its risks but more so due to the fact that I am taking this a lot more seriously this time. Hopefully that makes the difference. As a second timer the best piece of advice is to keep posting here. When I started to regain I was so embarrassed that I stopped posting here and going to love support group meetings. You can see where that got me, lol. When I finally went back to my dr he said that the sleeve is a very good surgery for a lot of people but obesity is complex and some people just need an even bigger metabolic change to be successful. So here’s to hoping that the second time is a charm. -
Anyone Annoyed with the "Stop losing weight"
ShoppGirl replied to AmberFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That’s exactly how I felt. I got down close to my doctors goal for me (18’ppunds shy) stalled there for about three months and then the hunger came back and I started to gain. If you haven’t spoken to your surgeon yet, definitely do that. They have some weight loss meds you may want to try (I couldn’t take because of other meds I’m on) and also the GLP-1 that some people are having a lot of success with (my insurance doesn’t cover but some do now). Plus there is the option of revision if/when you are ready. I am learning that it’s not super uncommon for people to have to revise the sleeve. Don’t quote me but it seems like it was 26%! Of people need revision within 3’years. Dom‘t personalize it like I did. I felt like I was such a failure that I stopped going to my follow up appointments and gained it all plus some. Hopefully they can help you before it comes to that. -
That’s a good idea.

Modified Duodenal Switch
ShoppGirl replied to Lara in Arkansas's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Omg, that’s hilarious. I never really thought about it that way, Thank you!! Sometimes I get a little over concerned about things. I have to teeter the fine line between being too lax and worrying excessively which is hard to do with an anxiety disorder. I do plan to take both bottles with me on surgery day and ask him if I actually see him and not the PA before I leave. If not I will ask him eventually. They don’t make that higher iron one in chewable anyways so I have at least a month post surgery before I need to decide, I just wanted to get the opinions of the people who actually lived it. Does the oral iron just make you sick or not absorb or what? Is it related to surgery or something else? -
I would say it depends on how soft and how moist the brownies turn out. I suppose you could always dunk them in some milk for a few seconds to let a little absorb to soften it in terms of texture similar ti adding a gravy to a drier meat. I would probably start with a bite or two and then wait just because that’s a few ingredients that I’m guessing you’ve never had. I’m not sure about cornstarch or monkfruit (though I’ve never heard anyone complain about them) I was just told to introduce new food one at a time so that if you do have issues you know exactly what it was.

I was doing grocery pickup earlier so I couldn’t look it up but this link shows what I was trying to describe for baggy shirts. I guess it’s a little about the belly button. https://insideoutstyleblog.com/2015/01/how-to-style-your-loose-tops-with-a-rubber-band-the-kimtuck-revealed.html -
Anyone Annoyed with the "Stop losing weight"
ShoppGirl replied to AmberFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You would be surprised they can be quite hurtful. Even the well intended ones that say you look so good are usually followed up by commenting on how big you were before which pretty much sucks. This can be especially difficult if you put a little weight back on or in my case a lot and then you have to go around those people knowing they are for sure judging you again. And even if you don’t gain it still kinda stings to know that people who are supposed to love you were judging you before for something that was out of your control. I had one person who had known me for years tell me that they just realized what a pretty girl I am about five minutes after they asked if I had lost weight!! I don’t think people think before they talk sometimes. Bottom line is any comments about weight CAN be hurtful and it’s something that people should tread really lightly about in my opinion. Or better yet learn to see a person for who they actually are and not even notice a persons size amongst other physical things (only in a perfect world I know). Why do you say you wish you were getting these comments? Have you not lost what you expected to with the sleeve? Are you still losing? That’s what I had first and I never did get to my goal weight. I am doing a revision surgery to the SADI in early August. My dr said that the sleeve is a great surgery for a lot of people but obesity is a complex issue and it is not the best fit for everyone. Some people just need more of a metabolic change to be successful. -
What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
Just found a recipe for chicken that uses a glaze made of honey, soy sauce, garlic and red pepper flakes called 15 minute honey garlic chicken. Thinking of doing that tonight with a little cauliflower rice and some broccoli. I’m still looking for ideas though. I don’t know how to cook that many things to begin with so when I try to go healthier I swear I have to eat the same like 5 things over and over. I’m curious if the honey will cause issues post surgery though. It’s only 3tbsp for a pound and a half of chicken I haven’t ever looked at the carbs in honey though.Yikes, one tbsp Is 17g carbs. I guesstimate each serving will have about half a tablespoon?! Not certain if this will work in weight loss phase or not. I need to get the number from my surgeon at my post op because the nutritionists are incompetent but that’s for a whole other topic. -

There are some cute ways to put a rubber band on the inside of tops too that creates a cute design while pulling it in to be more form fitting. I’m sure you can find some of the fancier ways if you poked around online but the easiest I’ve seen is to turn it inside out and put a small hair tie or whatever off to the side around the belly button area. You can also do it in the back and near the bottom then tuck it under. It actually looked really cute in the tutorial. They also sell waist tightener clips for pants. -
I have found my saving grace!!

Has anyone tried the Jordan’s skinny syrups. They popped up when I was adding the root beer to my cart and they have a mermaid one that is blue. Looks so refreshing for a mock tail. Suggests you add to flavored sparkling water or lemonade. I have some of the true lemon that I don’t particularly love just cause it’s kinda bland I thought I’d add it to. -
They also have protein shots right here on bariatric pal. I’ve Never tried them but when you mention not having to love them, I bet it would be easier with a smaller amount 🤷🏼♀️

Those root beer crystals sound interesting. I’ have never seen those. I wish they would create Cole zero ones. -
I don’t think them people in the kitchen follow the rules very well. I had a straw on my tray the day of surgery.

I use my phone most times and I see the first so many words of these posts but I can’t figure out how to read the whole thing. I can click to reply but don’t know what I’m replying to. Anyone know if I’m just missing something or do o just need to drag out another device.

I agree with others that it’s normal and it will slow down and stop eventually. I remember that phase all too well. I couldn’t really see the loss in the mirror but I hurt my back pretty bad and was down for a while. Before I vacuumed I noticed the hair collecting near all the baseboards and.i was horrified. I never lost enough for anyone else to notice either. It just seemed like I was going to. Just keep getting that protein in and you will be fine.

There is a reel on tik tok that really hit close to home with me where this lady is at Disney world and she begins it with something like i am wearing shorts in Disney and you will NOT believe some of the things people are saying to me…. Just when you expect her to repeat all these nasty comments and rude looks she says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. No one really cares!! I’m sure I’m not recalling it verbatim but the point is that (for the most part) we are the only ones that are thinking about what we look like when we are dressed in the appropriate attire for an activity. I second getting a new costume if you can afford it but either way don’t let what others think keep you from living your life. -

Protein shakes have iron in them.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks!’ I thought so too, but I never heard mention of that other one so I’m gonna give it a run by my dr when I see him post surgery about that and whether I should start with the regular bariatric or the Sadi specific vitamin right away. Just doesn’t make sense to take the shake and the chew together if they both absorb. Either I will end up absorbing too much or just pee money down the drain. Same thing if I take the multi and the shake if the iron just cancels out the calcium in the shake. Not the end of the world either way. I’m sure it will work its way out when I get my first labs but now I’m curious. 🧐 -
Please ignore. It was misinformation online. I was concerned if they had a lot of iron that the calcium chew I was taking with them wouldn’t absorb as well but I checked the actual shake and it doesn’t have iron. It does have 650mg of calcium though so if I don’t take the multi with it I may be able to save some money on calcium chews. It’s calcium casenite. Just need to figure out if that is a form of calcium that we absorb post surgery.

Not sure if you guys like country but there is a song from years ago by Kasey Musgraves That comes to mind when I think of this chat. Here are the lyrics, but of course you can just google and give it a listen for the heck of it if you want. “If you save yourself for marriage, you're a bore You don't save yourself for marriage, you're a horr-ible person If you won't have a drink, then you're a prude But they'll call you a drunk as soon as you down the first one If you can't lose the weight, then you're just fat But if you lose too much, then you're on crack You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't So you might as well just do whatever you want So, make lots of noise (hey) Kiss lots of boys (yup) Or kiss lots of girls, if that's something you're into When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight Roll up a joint, or don't Just follow your arrow wherever it points, yeah Follow your arrow wherever it points If you don't go to church, you'll go to Hell If you're the first one on the front row, you're self-righteous son of a- Can't win for losin', you'll just disappoint 'em Just 'cause you can't beat 'em, don't mean you should join 'em So, make lots of noise (hey) Kiss lots of boys (yup) Or kiss lots of girls, if that's something you're into When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight Roll up a joint, or don't Just follow your arrow wherever it points, yeah Follow your arrow wherever it points Say what you think (say what you think) Love who you love (love who you love) 'Cause you just get so many trips 'round the sun Yeah, you only, only live once So make lots of noise (hey) Kiss lots of boys (yup) Or kiss lots of girls, if that's what you're into When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight Roll up a joint, I would And follow your arrow wherever it points, yeah Follow your arrow wherever it points”
