Dr is great but his team is Not.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats my thing exactly. Like IF they have had to ask the dr this same thing 100 times and they know what the answer will be for absolute certain then sure tell me. But if they have not heard it from the doctors or their assistants mouth directly, or they don’t remember100% just don’t advise me. Ask someone!! I am not paying for their medical expertise. I just wish more people would realize that the first sign of intelligence is being able to admit what you don’t know. These parents and schools should be teaching these kids that it’s okay not to know something. Instead It seems like the generation coming up is being taught that they are for some reason expected to know everything about everything so if they don’t know something they are just guessing or trying to fake their way through it. It’s frustrating and wastes a ton of time in so many cases but it’s down right reckless in the medical field. To avoid issue with this office I think from now on I will not even tell them what my concern is. I will just ask for someone to call me or to get me In to be seen. My problem is that I was raised to be a people pleaser and I don’t want to be annoying. I am starting to get over that more and more every day though. 😂 -
I have only been constioated a couple of times in my life and both times I had sharp pains in my stomach and I could almost feel that I was full in there and needed to go but of course I couldn’t. The best thing to do is to try to prevent this from happening though so If you are not going everyday you are wise to do something. My team had me take benefiber everyday and if I went two days without a bowl movement I was to take milk of magnesia. That worked both times by the next day.

Be careful with chips as when you can eat a little more they are a slider food that can get you in trouble. Quest makes some protein chips that are pretty good. I like the ranch ones and my husband loves the loaded taco. They have them at Walmart or target and Amazon.not that I am recommending them this early out but everyone’s plan is different.

My primary doctor has me MAD!! Think it's time for a new one...
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you. If you find a resource that helps to find the doctors with relevant experience, please post it. I would love to find a new dr but wasn’t really certain how to go about searching. I went to my primary when I started this journey again (for my revision) to ask her for info and her opinion about the SADI surgery and she had to ask me how to spell SADI to put it in my chart. I thought okay well this is fairly new so I guess I can’t really blame her BUT when I asked her if she felt like the bypass was a good fit she asked me what the specialist said and that she would defer to him. Plus, the first SADI was done in 2007. For us lay folk that is fairly new but for someone in the medical field who is supposed to be doing continuing education we are coming up on 18 years since it’s been around. Anyways, I asked if I need to find someone else to treat me post op and she said well, for a few months if you have any issue at all you just go to their office first and make sure it’s not possibly related to the surgery or If you should come see me. Well, that strategy may have worked with some of the other surgeries but this surgery has more long term complications associated with it. I foresee myself paying for and wasting time and frustration enduring a number of unnecessary tests and appointments all the while getting worse if an issue is related to my altered anatomy If I stick with her. Is it sad that what I was expecting for her to say something along the lines of Well, now that I have a patient that is undergoing that procedure, I will be doing my research on how best to treat you? It’s so sad that is just not how it works anymore. I feel like they need to replace the word “refer” with “defer” in primary care. As in defer the responsibility to someone…anyone else. That’s what it feels like most doctors seem to want nowadays, more and more money and none of the responsibility. Must be friggin nice. Anyhow, Having a good primary that’s has knowledge of these surgeries would be huge asset and i really hope that you do find it. I fear that in my tiny town, especially with my newer surgery I won’t have very good luck with it. I do plan to ask the surgeons office if they know or anyone though. That may be a good resource for you too if you hadn’t thought about that. -

Thank you!! I was beginning to think it was just me being overly concerned after talking to my husband and him getting hung up on the money part (typical man I guess) but the bottom line is that if they can’t say something to help me believe they have a plan to get it together then I don’t think I can go through with this. So I have to say something to them which goes against my nature entirely. But It’s not like I’m purchasing a television I can just return if I’m unhappy. This is just too important to worry about being the nice agreeable girl. I mean, I still plan to put it politely as I can but they need to know. And I need some assurances about my aftercare. -

I didn’t realize you could freeze anything with eggs . That will make it way easier. I have a recipe somewhere for a single frittata that I had to buy a mini cast iron skillet to make it would love to make several one weekend and freeze them so I can pop them out when im in the mood. Do you just put them in freezer bags? Then when you pull them out is it better to thaW in fridge or heat from frozen? -

Your bmi is 30.45. I looked it up. And if you lose just 3 pounds you would be 29.95 (below 30) Do you know the prescribing criteria for that drug.according to several websites your iBMI has to be over 27. From 27-29 you must have a comorbidity. Only at 30 can they prescribe it without a weight related issue. Unless your heart issue is considered one of those comorbid issues that losing weight would help with then you just need to lose three pounds and she will have to leave you alone. lol. I joke but my point is that you are so close that even if BMI was accurate representation for everyone for her to be pushing this is just so absolutely absurd. I mean three pounds could be a bowel movement. It would be one thing if you were driving this but for her to push it under these circumstances doesn’t make any sense to me. This is copied from the package insert posted on drugs.com Phentermine Hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine anorectic indicated as a short-term adjunct (a few weeks) in a regimen of weight reduction based on exercise, behavioral modification and caloric restriction in the management of exogenous obesity for patients with an initial body mass index greater than or equal to 30 kg/m 2, or greater than or equal to 27 kg/m 2 in the presence of other risk factors (e.g., controlled hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia). Oh and also, I took that stuff when I was like 19 and I had no history of heart issues in myself or my family and they still made me do an ekg so I hope she at the very least planned to do that?? I totally understand why you are mad I would be too -
Introducing the BariatricPal Prenatal & Postnatal Bariatric Multivitamin with Mint Tab Insert

That looks like it might do the trick. Just in time for my revision. Perfect. -
Oh good. That helps make me feel better. I read a couple of things where people said they had issues with like bladder infections that wouldn’t go away and blamed it on the absorbtion of the meds. It scared me a little.
-
I am pending a Sadi revision to my sleeve and I know it’s pretty close to DS so I am looking for info from people with knowledge of both surgeries. I have read a couple of people mentioning issues with meds not absorbing properly making it difficult to treat common medical issues. Is this common post SADI or DS?
-
I think my ticker may be confusing you. I had the sleeve 3.5 years ago but I am pending a revision to the SADI. Thanks for your response though I guess now that I hade a surgery date and I have decided on a surgery it’s time to update that info Thanks for your response though.

This is awsome. If you haven’t figured out your next project one for DS and SADI would be helpful. And the mint insert sounds good for all of them. Lol -

I would ask her what specifically does she think will improve if you lose weight but I am pretty confident she wouldn’t be able to come up With one thing. . She sounds like one of those people that does cookie cutter medicine and it’s better ypu find that out now then when you have an issue that is outside of the box because we are all unique And she obviously doesn’t see you that way. -

I got my husbands attention when I told him that between the two extra appointment and the two fruitless nutritionist appts that I have wasted about $300 because of his teams lack of knowledge of this procedure. I didn’t even mention my time and frustration. But I am most concerned with figuring out a way to feel comfortable being at their mercy when I am most vulnerable post op. Hopefully I get that when I meet with the NP. -

ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly my biggest fear is if it is this hard getting the most basic info what is gonna happen if I have an issue post up. I will not be feeling up to, nor have the time to deal with this run around. I am going to ask the NP when I meet her but I feel like if only the dr knows then I should be dealing with only the dr. I am never really a blunt or confrontational person but I am gonna tell the NP about my experience thus far so she will she why I feel like even if the dr is ready to do this procedure that the staff is not. And that would not even be an issue if they could just admit when they are in over their head and just ask him but they don’t. I want her to know that this scares me. -

I am talking about the two day liquid diet. And thats what the nutritionist said about the red looking like blood but in the book that the surgeons office gave me it lists all those usually red items like jello, popsicles and crystal light. Then the night before (doesn’t say what time) it says to switch to clear liquids. BUT when I called to clarify she basically described the clear one and said for the SADI that is for two days. I said well then I think I have the wrong book then, should I go there and get the other one. She said no thats the right book you just aren’t supposed to have all that. Well how in the heck am I supposed to know that? And what would happen if I wasn’t the type of person to ask? It just amazes me how lax they can be with this stuff. When it can easily be life or death if the surgeon thinks you did one thing when you were told to do another. They need to get it together. Anyways. I have an appointment with the NP now before the surgery so I will get the answer but it’s still frustrating to waste my time and money because of their incompetence. And I don’t mean incompetence like they are ignorant. I’ realize That the issue is that it’s a new surgery and I understand if they don’t know. What I am not okay with is them just making it up as they go along when it is my life we are taking about. Admitting when you don’t know something and then finding the answer is the real sign of competence. -

I’ve never had anything chai so I don’t even know what to mix that with. Is it supposed to be like a coffee sweetener? I’ve heard of chai latte. lol -

That cake sounds interesting. You should share it here or in the recipe thread. I have seen tortillas made with cottage cheese and cheddar cheese but never bread. -

The finger food plate is a great idea. I love those foods. Idk why I don’t think of them outside of an appetizer for a get together. I had to google auberfines. I know them as eggplant. I have had them at restaurants and annoyed them but always shy away because I’m intimidated by preparing rhem. I guess I need to do some research because that sounds like a good alternative to zucchini lasagna. I have never thought of putting beans into an omelette. It’s sounds different but I will give anything a try once. Thanks for the book suggestion. I should check and see what’s free on kindle unlimited as well. Idk why a whole book of recipes is overwhelming for me but when I come across one thing that sounds good I have the guts To try it. I’m an odd duck sometimes. lol. -
Anyone Annoyed with the "Stop losing weight"
ShoppGirl replied to AmberFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well you really do have to lot your calories if you have not done that (and measure things- don’t just eyeball it (because you would be surprised how little the portions look that we actually need after years of feeding an obese body and don’t go by what others think because they are used to seeing you eat so much more so it’s just as much of an adjustment for them as it is for you BUT, if you have tied all that, don’t just give uP, you’ve still got options -

@Singingbarista lots Of people lurk here for a while before they post. Congrats on your decision to do surgery. The local support groups are great too. I keep saying I’m going to get started back but life always gives me an excuse. Post op no more excuses for me though. Have you found any good recipes or shakes you can recommend? I am an anxious person so I totally get the over preparing as a coping mechanism. As long as you aren’t creating a financial hardship you’re not hurting anyone (thatS what I tell myself). As far as craft suggestions go I love to crochet. It’s easy to pick up the basics and you can make things with only knowing the most basic stitch then learn a ones whenever your heart desires. It can be a cheap hobby if you shop the sales and don’t become what we refer to as yarn snob. I actually started it because the mindless counting of stitches is very meditative And helps With anxiety. I have brought my crochet with me for many big tests and procedures. Most libraries have groups that meet weekly too so you get to meet other people that knit and crochet. You can usually find crochet hooks at thrift store even and the red heart yarn at Walmart is good enough to get you started.check out some you tube videos Or your libraries website to see when the next class is if you are interested -
