On todays episode of “ i dont see the weight loss”😂😂😂
ShoppGirl replied to Dchonlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure why but it seems to be a common trend that we don’t see the difference in ourselves. I have seen it in some of your other posts though with the before and afters. Sometimes it helps to take measurements too. So you can see the inches you lose. -

I literally just tried the core power by fairlife from Walmart and they are pricey but pretty good. They only sell singles but oddly enough if you buy 12 they come out cheaper than ordering from Amazon. Now whether they actually have 12 in stock will be another story. Crochet for me is a really good distraction so you may really want to consider giving it a try again. I use it to try to calm down without needing medication for anxiety. I am fairly new to it but it has been fun. After making a bunch of wash cloths and dish rags just to practice stitches, I crocheted the toppers onto kitchen towels so that they can be hung up in the kitchen. Everyone seemed to love them for Christmas. They asked me if I am going to make them for other seasons. lol They just use the basic stitches is why I mention them. I found the tutorial online. There are so many videos on you tube now to give ideas and patterns as well as to learn new stitches. If you have time to kill it can certainly entertain you for a while. Sometimes too long. lol -
lol. This made me chuckle a few times, thanks for that. Yea I know I cant seem to take a side. I finally landed on the fact that they just need to take a long hard look at the system as it stands and give it an overhaul. Seems like maybe it’s been quite a while since they have. I think I may be onto something in them requiring one actual therapy visit post op instead of this evaluation pre op (that’s I agree seems more of a box to check than anything else). Just so the patient can see what it’s all about and decide for themselves if it’s right for them?? I am talking about what’s actually in favor of the patient succeeding. Not in terms of the insurance company saving money.

That’s good to know. I have been wearing leggings or jeggings for years as well. Even when it’s swelteringly hot unfortunately. I did find a product that’s a cream I used when I had my sleeve and would walk in treadmill that helps prevent chafing. It’s called chamois Butt’r. I found it on Amazon and it works. Can’t really attest to how long it works for because I just put it on and washed it off after I exercised but it definitely worked. -

Well if you like dresses they will definitely be cuter but depending on what your doing excursion wise sometimes you need the coverage that the shorts underneath provide. -

I do the same thing with clothes. If I find something that I actually like the fit I stick with it. Sometimes I buy backups for when something wears out. lol You could also consider Skorts. They look a little dressier than shorts while still being comfy. A couple solid color ones should pretty much match any tops you want to pair them with. -
I have a lot of thoughts about them making you feel judged or not empathized with and all of that but honestly I am just glad that is behind you now and that you have a plan to move ahead. Just keep trudging forward. You will get there.

What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.

I feel bad if I made you toss your meatballs that you liked. lol. The frozen ones can go into the microwave too, though. Just may take a little longer. I am going to have to try differnt brands of the meatballs because the ones I have in the freezer now are still there because they were kinda rubbery for lack of better word. Probably should just toss them too. Or I should just find out more about the deli ones because if they weren’t too bad for me they were really good. I haven’t had very good luck with the frozen zucchini spirals. They are always mushy. I actually have one of the devices where you can make your own but i am a lazy cook. Anyways, I think I can pull this meal together now, thanks I’m actually pretty excited 😆 -
Omg that sounds like torture. I can’t even believe they do that procedure without sedation. I just had it under that they call “twilight anesthesia” and I don’t remember a thing. It’s not genera anesthesia but to me it felt quite the same. The only difference was I woke up a lot quicker from it once it was done.

Congratulations!! I am so happy for you. And it sounds like you have the poster model for support when it comes to WLS. It sounds like this is his success as well.

Omg. I so wish my grocery had those ingredients now. You just reminded me. There is a store like 45 minutes from me that has the fresh zucchini spirals and they even have a deli that makes their own Turkey meatballs that were really tasty. I’m sure that the marinara is not the greatest nutrition wise and they could’ve added a bunch of crap to the meatballs because they don’t list the nutrition label on prepared food in the deli. I could inquire to see if they have it, but I wasn’t strictly counting anything then. Anyways, this was a meal that i actually enjoyed. And I never really thought about how convenient it is considering. I really need to start shopping there more often. The prices are a little high but the quality and variety of healthier choices is 100 times better than the stores that are right down the street from me. It’s kinda sad that I will make that trip for other things without hesitation, even restaurant food but I don’t tend to drive that far for healthy food. Something to really think about 🤔 Do you mind sharing the brand of your sugar free spaghetti sauce? Are the meatballs frozen? Is there a particular one you prefer?! This is definitely something I am putting on my list!! -

Oh how fun. Do you make Like little flowers out of pepperoni and all that? I have seen some really cute ideas online for them boards. I just never feel like I have an Occasion fancy enough to make them For. Mayne I should do a board one of these days just for fun. I would like to see if them roses are as easy as them make them look in the videos. 😂 . I need to try shrimp again. I decided that I don’t like it when I was young and I have not tried it again since. I like lobster and snow crab but i think it was more of a texture thing for me with the shrimp. I am such a kid when It comes to food. I need to just make myself try it since it’s a good lean protein. I love salad. I am so worried that I will not be able to tolorate it after the SADI. Some people on the DS board said they cannot. I need to ask if it’s just the lettuce or if they Can’t do raw veggies either. I don’t mind salad without lettuce. At home I use very little lettuce anyways and when I’m out I eat around it to save room for the good stuff. -

Hello. @Greekmom4. Sound like you are on the ball. I am still trying to slowly cut back on caffeine and I am scheduled the day after you. It makes sense to me that you do better at work work with water if you have a desk job because it’s right there as reminder. Maybe set an alarm to go off every hour or two just to remind you to drink. If you have a smart watch I think there is a way to set up alerts on that which could be silent. Don’t quote me on that but it seems like I’ve heard that somewhere. -
A Bit Of An Emotional Week
ShoppGirl replied to MrsFitz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it’s hilarious that after so much time together our husbands learn when it’s best to get out of the way or hide. I hate to try clothes on in the store as well. Plus they usually don’t ever have my size in stock no matter what size I am at the time (they just carry so little inventory anymore). I have learned that it’s best for me to shop the retail stores so that I can really see the fabrics and cut of things. Then I go home and order a few things online in a couple of different sizes if I am not certain which I’m usually not (the larger purchase amount usually qualifies me for free shipping So it works out). Then I immediately return whatever doesn’t fit. Usually something works out for me this way though and I get to avoid exchanging over and over which drives me crazy. Ooh and when I do get stressed out because clothing fit is such a challenge thing, I buy myself an accessory. Cute boots, new sunglasses, even a pair of inexpensive earrings. Just anything I can see and know that if I love it on the rack then I will most likely love it on me and I will love it at any size so I don’t feel it’s such a waste or money. Also, accessories are another tip for your trip. If you know you aren’t going to stay that size and these clothes aren’t ones you will wear much after, maybe buy some things that are a bit more casual or basic and Dress them up with accessories that at least you will be more likely to get use out of after. i don’t think that its true that surgery is the only thing to motivate us. I think we all have been motivated to try diets many times in the past. I think it’s just that it’s hard to get motivated again for something that we have tried and failed at already so many times. Surgery is something we have not yet tried so there is hope. Hope is a motivator. Also, We know that the surgery is actually successful for people like us. Unlike yo yo diets which for the most part do not work. I know it’s hard to wrap your mind around it pre surgery. I have also started to think if I have to make all these changes anyways then why can’t I just make them without having to do surgery. The thing is it’s like a joint effort. The metabolic changes from the surgery are supposed to make it attainable while you still have to do the work. -

I usually have a caramel “proffee” for breakfast but all the talk about using leftovers reminded me I had sautéed peppers and onions in the fridge so I made myself a nice egg white omelet. I was having them for lunch just about everyday for a while and got burnt out on them but forgot they are quite tasty. -

It’s funny that you posted this now. I have my psyc eval this morning and I know the drill from last time but I always kinda wondered why they don't just require ongoing therapy with weight loss surgery until the dr feels we are done instead of making us walk on eggshells afraid we won’t pass some one time evaluation proving we don't have any eating disorders when the reality is most of us could still benefit from some expert help when it comes to our eating habits and the mental aspect of it all. Maybe not for diagnosable eating disorders but for disordered eating behaviors which every human who says I’ve had a bad day and I want chocolate to feel better has to some degree. It just seems like it makes more sense to throw all the tools into the mix. They probably would have less revisions to pay for that way. -

I would love to hear if anyone has any recipes for healthier Mexican dishes that are good. I used to have a recipe that was a Mexican skillet with black beans and corn and cauliflower rice but I misplaced it. I have tried a few others I found online but they are just not the same. Ifs the spices that I cannot remember. -

Yea. It’s really touch cooking small amounts. I know alot of people on here freeze a great deal. I haven’t gotten into that yet. I don’t have a ton of freezer space and I’m pretty unorganized so I may be able to do like one thing at a time but I don’t think creating a whole menu of frozen items is really for me. Anyways, i have been going back and forth since I’m pending revision in terms of my eating but when I a being good I eat a lot of salads. I love southwest and taco salads as well as market salad (a Copycat of Chick-fil-A salad that has chicken, nuts and fruit). @NickelChip suggested salmon on salad but I’m not a fan. I think I will try mahi mahi instead I just gotta figure out what else goes with that. I also like low carb wraps. I do a cheeseburger one, Philly cheesesteak (using deli roast beef that I just skillet fry for a few seconds), and grilled chicken Caesar. When I’m feeling extra fancy I will do chicken or beef stuffed peppers or zucchini boats with sausage. And when I’m craving Italian I will like cauliflower crust pizza or this low carb Italian bake I just found that’s basically lasagna without noodles but with Italian sausage (it’s low carb but but necessarily low calorie). That is pretty much my entire menu though which is why I am really hoping to expand my horizons. I get board and thats When I am tempted to eat off plan. -

I’m the same way. I am just seriously not much of a cook and im a picky eater so my menu options are limited. But I’m limited even further because my husband won’t eat what I eat so I’m cooking for one. -

Let us know how the chicken turns out. I seen a recipe for a chicken dish that had a mexican flaire. I remember it used taco seasoning and had corn and tomatoes but that’s about it. -

Not everyone gets to their protein goal right away and that’s not the end of the world so long as you are trying Your protein shakes count as both fluid and protein though and they usually have 25-30g each so it shouldn’t be as hard as you think with the shakes. Fluids are the mist important thing immediately afterwards. For most of us, drinking gets easier by the hour as swelling goes down. I actually had no issue drinking from day one. I also wasn’t in any pain and was off all pain meds before I left the hospital. I did need a little more sleep than usual but it wasn’t like other surgeries where I needed pain meds and I was more groggy constantly. With those surgeries I woke up to my alarm to take meds or whatever and had no problem going right back to sleep though so you should be fine either way. As far as hunger your hunger hormone is reduced. Most of us do not feel hungry at all. But as you should see on the pre op diet. The protein in them shakes is surprisingly filling anyways. Also, if you were not getting a little bit nervous by now you would be the exception and not The rule. Just try to keep your eyes on your goals. If you haven’t set one check out the “weirdest non scale victories” thread. There are some pretty good ones that you may not have even thought of yet. -
You are definitely not alone. @Arabesque pretty much covered the how and why, but it is definitely a crazy, emotional ride for a lot of us. It does get better though, for me it was a little better each day and didn’t last too long. Just remember to be kind to yourself. You are doing great!!
