Well scrambled eggs seem to be going down okay.not sure it’s a true test because I am chewing them to liquid because I’m scared but so far so good. Really wishing I had that mug warmer right now. Cold eggs are better than liquids but I’m sure I could be enjoying them more than this if they were warm. Thankfully it will be here today. How is everyone else doing?? -
When to stop the stool softeners

I actually didn’t really even think about that part of it but that’s a very good point. I was actually thinking more about straining myself because my incisions are still quite painful. They are lower than the sleeve ones and there are more of them. I had nine in total this time including the drain hole. That may be because this surgery was robotic this time? Or because if the gallbladder addition? -
I knew it was a priority from very early out. I Just couldn’t remember if it was day two or four or when EXACTLY. I guess I didn’t express that very well.

Bariatric fusion.com has quite a few recipes that look like they may actually be good when we get back to normal foods. And lots of protein shake and purée recipes too. Just FYI -

Yay!! 🎉 -
Yea. I just double checked my post op paperwork and from day 3 I had a protein goal of 60-80g. I did have a different surgery but I’m pretty sure it was quite similar for the sleeve as well. I could see if you had to choose between hydration and protein and your struggling to meet your fluid goal but the clear protein drinks should satisfy both. You may consider giving them a call to double check.

Oops I missed this one somehow. So glad to hear that you are awake and doing well other than the fluids. That takes a little while longer for some. Ooh the gas pain. Ugh. My dr refused to give me like gas ex. He kept saying to walk but I WAS walking SO much that the nurses all knew me but I was there for 5 days. The morning of day 4 I finally did pass gas and it was the greatest. Even the first one brought some relief but within the hour I had done like 7 big ones and I felt SOOOOOO much better. They were able to cut my pain meds by like 75% after that and I went home the next day. Anyways, just keep on walking and relief will come soon. Hopefully even sooner for you. -

I was told the same thing about straws. Several months out from my sleeve I did end up using one by accident. I was out and they gave me one and I just forgot. Nothing happened so I went back to them but I wasn’t the model patient either or I wouldn’t have needed a revision so ask your surgeon. Some one else said to think of the sip you would take to test if something is too hot and to start with that. You will slowly increase your sips naturally though until you are drinking pretty close to normal again down the road with the exception of guzzling of course. -

So glad to hear your awake and doing fairly well. I never heard that about stomach cramps. Both of my surgeries I had cold drinks and I guess it didn’t add to the pain and cramping but then again maybe it did. Perhaps start with just like one ice cube in a glass and then keep adding annothet until it’s actually cold. -

Wow. It all sounds almost doable until you say mashed potato consistency. I went the entire two weeks after my sleeve earring one or two things and just relied on liquids because I couldn’t get past the idea of it. Like I said I got REALLY bored so I’m gonna at least try it this time. -

I never thought of the every other day thing. That’s a great idea. I worried about going Cold Turkey and not being regular. (I bet I sound so old with that statement). -

Y’all may want to check out that website that had the ricotta bake recipe. It is Bariatricbits.com. There aren’t as many recipes as I thought but it does tell you how to make puréed chicken tuna and egg salad as well as refried beans and tbe ricotta bake -

@Greekmom4 that bean recipe sounds good. Is salsa considered a purée though? I guess you can purée it a little more. I’m gonna order some now and try to use my little hand blender with it and see what happens. You have to tell me how exactly you went about making purée chicken salad. Was it totally mush? I am allowed canned chicken and tuna and a little low fat Mayo but that seems like a big jump from liquid to me. @Hiddenroses i haven't experienced that but have heard of lots of weird physical aches and pains, especially back pain that occurs as we lose because our posture changes so quickly. And lots of people do end up needing a cushion when they sit after a while. I’m gonna guess it is the loss. Your first NSV!! Needing extra butt cushion 🎉 @Onemealplan are you allowed the egg substitute? I had never tried them until my pre op diet and they are surprisingly good. The first ingredient is egg whites but they add some stuff to make them taste a whole lot more like regular eggs which is great for me because I really don’t care for egg whites. They are also super soft and moist which is good for us right now. @Hiddenroses I am editing this post to add that now that I am paying attention I am feeling a bit of tingling in my butt cheek. I am lying in an adjustable bed watching tv and I’m actually not in a very comfortable position at all but I swear I just noticed some tingling in the right side and shifted my weight. 🤣 I guess if it happened before I just didn’t pay much attention. I’m lucky that I haven’t had to do any desk chair sitting this week. That just got me to thinking about when will be the best time to get a new mattress. One thing I do remember with the sleeve was that the mattress seemed uncomfortable after I lost a significant ***** of weight. I think it’s because I was not sleeping in my same dented in spot with the posture changes. I flipped the mattress a few times and then ended up switching mattresses with my husband who is tiny because he can sleep on anything and that worked last time but I don’t remember if they have been replaced since then. I’m thinking not so I’m going to have to for sure this time at some point. -
It seems like with my sleeve it was a pretty long too. I didn’t ask this time because I don’t have a pool anymore. I personally would be pretty skeptical to go into a public one with any type of incision that wasn’t 100% healed. If you really wanted to go somewhere you could consider cooling off in the shower though. I used to do that at the ocean just because I don’t like going in. I guess it doesn’t really help in terms of actual swimming but it’s something.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I have a descent list for purée but the three things I actually like out of it are the scrambled egg substitute, refried beans, and ricotta. I am also allowed reduced sugar marinara and fat free or low fat cheese so I will have a little cheddar cheese on the refried beans and I will make the ricotta bake with ricotta, marinara and mozzarella. That starts Sunday for me and I CAN’T wait. I was actually debating how long I need to wait to make sure something agrees. Like if I have the eggs for breakfast, will I know by lunch that was fine so I can try something else or should I stick to liquids for the rest of the day. I can’t remember what I did with the sleeve. Probably waited because I always tend to be over cautious with medical stuff. I dug out my handheld blender and bought some canned fruit (no sugar added) and fresh veggies that I’m going to try to make my own purées. That I didn’t do last time but I do remember getting board so I figured I may as well give it a try. Anyone else have any good ideas? -
What would you do or have you done since surgery..

That sounds like an exciting change of pace. You can get annual passes for some of those theme parks you’re excited to visit. -

Plus you can frog the old ones and make two more in your smaller size!! For those who don’t do yarn crafts that crochet speak for “rip it rip it” out and start over. My husband refers to it as free yarn. Though that’s usually to cheer me up if I make a mistake and have to rip half of it out. -

@NeonRaven8919 I’m curious. Did you give the sewing machine a go? There are lots of videos online but also check your local library or adult school for classes. I always thought I wanted to sew and took some classes but I also started crochet around the same time and that sorta took the main stage. It came easier to me so of course that translates to it being more fun. I bet it would be a very good distraction though because I remember losing track of time when I was working on a pillowcase when I first started. I had to learn everything from how to thread the machine to how to wind a bobbin and change a needle, etc. My husband came home but it felt like it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. I was at that machine all day!! -

What do you wish you had done BEFORE your gastric bypass surgery to get ready?
ShoppGirl replied to DianeF's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Make sure to have a good thermometer handy to keep tabs on your temp post surgery. I got one for Walmart for ten bucks that’s Vicks brand that I really like. I like that it only takes like 8 seconds especially but it’s also bigger screen so easy to read plus it is red yellow or green to tell you if your temp is okay. -
At least it’s not just me. I swear I started merging details of stuff. I will be telling someone something and even as I’m saying it I’m like that doesn’t sound right does it?? Not sure if that’s an age thing or what but i do it all the time. 🤣 i also had a surprise Gall Bladder removal so I gotta figure that out. You know usually with the SADI you eat lower carb with a little more fat because we malabsorb it but now without the Gall Bladder I am supposed to stay low fat. It’s just going to be interesting finding that balance. My NP didn’t seem to think of it as such a big deal and maybe it isn’t but I am going to ask my family NP when I see her because I think it’s going to be different for me with the SADI than the average person
-
It was between the SADI and Bypass. I wanted the SADI but if not the Bypass. They did the SADI but that’s not an option when you fill in the stats so I just selected DS since that’s the closest.

No not shakes. Clear protein drinks. They are like water consistency so you should be allowed to have them at this stage. Check first of course but if you’re allowed they sell them just about everywhere now. I get protein 2.0 at Walmart. Just search clear protein water or drink.

Such a great suggestion. I love his podcasts and his book as well. That really could be a good fit.
