I haven’t tried this yet but I just got another idea for a gadget that will come in very handy if it works like I think it will. A coffee mug warmer. For the broth and the cream soups for full liquid for sure. And maybe even the purée and soft stage since everything is supposed to be real moist. But At least for this soup stage because it just cools off so fast. The more I think about it this may not be as helpful for everyone with tiny tummies since you can only eat like 3 bites early out anyways. I am a little different since they didn’t operate on my stomach. Supposed to keep my portions small but I physically can eat more.

Ooh. One last thing post surgery is that if you have a really accommodating and willing helper like I do it can be easy to just sit still for hours since getting up hurts but pay attention to the clock or ask them to since you are supposed to get up. My dr said every two hours at least and walk around. To prevent blood clots.

I had no idea he was going to take my gallbladder. Although I’m guessing it was somewhere in the paperwork I signed that he may. This is the same surgeon that did my sleeve so it’s not a standard since he didn’t take it last time. Mine just already wasn’t looking good and with the anticipated weight loss it would’ve needed to be removed eventually anyways so he went ahead and took it. Because I had the SADI and less Fat is absorbed though it’s going to be a fine balance between too much fat for my lack of gallbladder and not enough fat for my body since I had the SADI so I don’t think it was a decision he took lightly. In terms of moving the night stand I left mine where it goes but I did end up grabbing a tv tray that I don’t even remember how I acquired I’ve had it so long but it comes in real handy when someone is sick and needs to keep lots of things handy. It works well because as I adjust the level of the bed for comfort my husband can come in and move it an inch or two in either direction to make it easier for me to reach. I have been texting for his assistance less and less, though. Today I am feeling well enough I can scoot it myself since it’s on a rug on wood flooring. I also found a couple small baskets to be helpful to coral things like vitamins and thermometer and everyday meds. Another thing I actually discovered today was that ironically it is easier to get up from the bed in the flat position using the log roll method than to sit the bed all the way up. It honestly doesn’t make much sense to me but if one way hurts a great deal, try the other.

You may have had a nerve block. They gave me one last time without telling me. This time I asked and he didn’t do it. Not sure why. But it sorta numbs all the abdominal pain and slowly wears off by the next day when the pain really sets in.

I am doing sooooo much better, thanks. Now I practically forget I had surgery until I try to get up or sit down. That and I am still pretty fatigued (i take a couple naps). I am not supposed to take the steri strips off of my incisions but one did come off and it’s almost healed. I am over the all liquids too. As I read this I have the blended phase paperwork on my lap because I was making a grocery list even though I don’t get to start till Sunday. I really don’t understand how we can go from liquid to canned chicken or tuna unless they expect us to put that in the blender too? Sounds pretty gross. I’m guessing I will be eating a lot of scrambled eggs.

Oh that’s horrible. I’m so sorry. If it was a conference I don’t get how they didn’t know all along. I would be asking some questions.

Okay so I am 6 days post op and this morning after two days of twice a day stool softeners I finally went!! Never thought I’d be so excited about that. For my sleeve I didn’t take any pain meds so I didn’t have that issue. I was secretly worried this time since they actually rearranged my bowels that something wasn’t back together properly but apparently I’m good. Now I just hope I don’t do that too often because it hurts to wipe with the abdomen pain. 😩

The binder is just a provider preference. It shouldn’t matter that you had the SADI-S is what my Dr calls the virgin SADI. I was given one with the sleeve portion and then again with the bypass portion. They can be ordered on Amazon if you still have incision pain but I would run it by your surgeon just in case. In terms of stool softeners your guess is as good as mine. I’m PO day 5 today and haven’t had one yet. I am taking stool softeners twice a day for the past two days though so hopefully soon and it’s not terribly painful.

For those of you waiting for surgery another word from the wise. If your nurse suggests that taking your binder off may help with your pain level consider loosening it first before you take it off completely. I took the advise of my nurse and took it off then two nights later his suggestion was to put it back on. Guess which actually helped….tremendously. I went from two pain meds every four hours to one and then to half just because I had that binder back on. At home now I sleep pretty still on my back so I loosen it a bit while I sleep but tighten it before I get up again. It is a personal preference and may not be the answer for everyone but if nothing else is working consider the binder. It worked for me.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

Speaking of. I didn’t remember my weight on surgery day but I got a little worried about how I was doing with the spirometer and the front desk explained the situation to the NP as a little more dire so they asked me to come in. They checked my lungs while I was there and I’m fine. Just need to keep working at it. Good news is they also checked my weight and between the 16 day liver shrink and pre op diet and the five days I am post op I have lost 16 pounds!!

Got a little nervous because I’m not doing so well with my spirometer. Called the office just to be sure I am okay and the front office I guess explained it a little more drastically than I did but I seen the NP and she listened to my lungs and I am fine. No signs of pnemonia. Sounds like she would’ve been able to tell me that over the phone but ooh well. I’m good and that’s all that matters.

I’m sure you really want to go and recovery in your own space but best to just stay put until they are 100% sure you are ready. It’s a pain in the butt to go back and usually ends up being more expensive if you have to go through emergency first.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

I had surgery the 7th and had a pretty rough recovery. I was on OXY and Morphine in hospital to start and got released yesterday. I am now down to taking more normal post op pain meds and hopefully just at night.

You know we laugh cause what else can you do but I’m telling you if you have to pass gas while you’re in there I don’t care who is in the room let it go. Explain later but omg I was on oxy and morphine and literally in tears one night because the pain was so bad. Passes a few good toots and they cut the oxy way back and took me off the morphine. I still have the actual surgical pain that everyone has now but with the normal post op pain meds it’s manageable. Before that I wasn’t sure how I could ever go home.

Honestly if you are sure you want the surgery there isn’t much to do to prepare. You need to find a couple of protein shakes that you like and buy a few. Ideally not too many because some peoples tastes change. You may be allowed some yogurt or pudding and cream soups. They can be bought ahead as well. As long as you have someone who can to the store for you. You should be good with that. Do any preop labs or tests they requires and get your house as organized as possible for when you come home. Everything doesn’t have to be out. Just at counter height. They want you to walk every hour when you come home anyways so it’s good to have some stuff to do. The longer you have to wait the longer you have to second guess things.

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t been too active. Had a rough few days. Not sure if the majority of my pain was the fact that they ended up taking my gallbladder too or just because I couldn’t pass gas for 4 days!! I did a couple little ones yesterday and a few belches which did help some but this morning I had several good ones that were life changing. 🤣. I am home now and loving being in my own bed. Though it is a bit harder to get in and out of. It’s adjustable but I got used to pushing off of the bed rails being in hosptial for. 5’days. Anyways. Just wanted to check in. Still no regrets. Looking forward to continued loss.

I finally farted!! Just a tiny one and I don’t think it did much but it makes me hopeful that there are more coming. With each tiny hurl and gas comes a bit more relief. Now the incisions and internal stuff are a whole different thing. When I try to get up and dowm from the bed or even just sit up I feel like a bear is just ripping across my stomach wtomach with claws and it burns sk bad. They took the outer bandages off though and I keep looking at the steri strips and nothing is bleeding. Just feels like it. I am very scared to go home today. Without this bed that helps me to get up idl joe I’m gonna do it.

Sounds like you’re ahead of me a bit. It does feel like a full time job for a while remembering everything between eating l, drinking, meds and vitamins. In terms of pain meds. I dont get it. Some of the nurses don’t like to give it even if it’s in the chart they are allowed. My night nurse is one of them and it’s annoying. I can’t get a good nights sleep because he won’t just let me stay ahead of it. the NP came today and she told them I am alllwed something every two hours while it’s really bad. But the Dr has it inny charg that if it’s controlled with this Henie sending me home. Not sure what that means if they can’t send me with these meds??

    Seatbelt pillow.

Yea. That’s what I brought for my sleeve and it did work but I worried about the seatbelt being loose if we were in an accident. I was excited to find this because it shouldn’t slip off in an accident.
  21. I started the day trying to figure out if 60mg of iron was actually a little too much post sadI and stumbled upon one article that says fbaf supplemental calcium may not do anything to help with our bones but some research has linked it to kidney stones )which I had heard before) but also heart disease and gastrointestinal issues. There was mention of this on Hopkins.gov and Mayo Clinic plus ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. Further investigation lead me down a rabbit hold of all the various nutrient deficiencies people experience post SADI and there are so many, OMG. Now my anxiety is getting the best of me. One article made it sound like people with all of The bariatric surgeries suffer so many issues in the long run. I am not scheduled to see my surgeon again until the morning of surgery and I honestly don’t know what good scheduling To talk to him would do me now. I mean he wouldn’t have scheduled the surgery if he felt it was going to put me in worse shape So he either has better research to prove these studies wrong or he just hasn’t heard of all this which seems impossible since I stumbled upon It my accident and it’s not even my field. I am honestly not sure what I am looking for here other than others take on all this and maybe some reassurance from the only ones who can possibly understand what I am feeling right now. I’m just so overwhelmed by what I have read And my husband couldn't have possibly dismissed it any faster. Am I crazy for letting this stuff freak me out? When I did my sleeve I didn’t do this much research And I wasn’t nearly this freaked out. Maybe I just need to get offline.
  22. Today is day one of my liquid diet after a two week LSD. I guess I didn’t realize how much I was doing physically until I felt like I hit a brick wall about 6:00pm. Apparently 3 shakes is not enough calories to be spring cleaning all day. For me anyways. I am glad I don’t have much that I have to have to get done tomorrow because I feel like it’s going to be even worse. Anyone else have a hard time with all liquids? I really hope it’s just that and I’m not coming down with something. Surgery day is Wednesday. That would be awful. I just added it up and I had 510 calories with the three shakes and I just had a yogurt which makes it 600. Zero carbs though and I was working pretty hard.

    Sadi is so lonely

Isn’t it weird the difference in recovery. Last time I was up and doing everything for myself the same day. This time, same preop and same dr and I’m in pain still on day 2. I don’t junk it’s gas pain either because I haven’t tooted once. They did also take my gallbladder so perhaps that’s the difference.

    Sadi is so lonely

They said two night but I am drinking and waking on may own. I would rather stay here rhe second night because I don’t think they can send me home with morphine and getting up just to the bathroom is hard right now. I am doing it without assistance but after just that I’m in pain and that's with the morphine. I don’t even want to imagine it without. Plus if I am going to have a leak I would rather be here.

    Sadi is so lonely

Thanks. He came early and I just got back from the walk. Getting out of and back in bed was the worst part but it wasn’t intolerable. I was going to put my pajama pants on but thought about the leg circulating things and decided that then second gown worn backwards would Be better.
