When to stop the stool softeners
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never thought of the every other day thing. That’s a great idea. I worried about going Cold Turkey and not being regular. (I bet I sound so old with that statement). -

Y’all may want to check out that website that had the ricotta bake recipe. It is Bariatricbits.com. There aren’t as many recipes as I thought but it does tell you how to make puréed chicken tuna and egg salad as well as refried beans and tbe ricotta bake -

@Greekmom4 that bean recipe sounds good. Is salsa considered a purée though? I guess you can purée it a little more. I’m gonna order some now and try to use my little hand blender with it and see what happens. You have to tell me how exactly you went about making purée chicken salad. Was it totally mush? I am allowed canned chicken and tuna and a little low fat Mayo but that seems like a big jump from liquid to me. @Hiddenroses i haven't experienced that but have heard of lots of weird physical aches and pains, especially back pain that occurs as we lose because our posture changes so quickly. And lots of people do end up needing a cushion when they sit after a while. I’m gonna guess it is the loss. Your first NSV!! Needing extra butt cushion 🎉 @Onemealplan are you allowed the egg substitute? I had never tried them until my pre op diet and they are surprisingly good. The first ingredient is egg whites but they add some stuff to make them taste a whole lot more like regular eggs which is great for me because I really don’t care for egg whites. They are also super soft and moist which is good for us right now. @Hiddenroses I am editing this post to add that now that I am paying attention I am feeling a bit of tingling in my butt cheek. I am lying in an adjustable bed watching tv and I’m actually not in a very comfortable position at all but I swear I just noticed some tingling in the right side and shifted my weight. 🤣 I guess if it happened before I just didn’t pay much attention. I’m lucky that I haven’t had to do any desk chair sitting this week. That just got me to thinking about when will be the best time to get a new mattress. One thing I do remember with the sleeve was that the mattress seemed uncomfortable after I lost a significant ***** of weight. I think it’s because I was not sleeping in my same dented in spot with the posture changes. I flipped the mattress a few times and then ended up switching mattresses with my husband who is tiny because he can sleep on anything and that worked last time but I don’t remember if they have been replaced since then. I’m thinking not so I’m going to have to for sure this time at some point. -
It seems like with my sleeve it was a pretty long too. I didn’t ask this time because I don’t have a pool anymore. I personally would be pretty skeptical to go into a public one with any type of incision that wasn’t 100% healed. If you really wanted to go somewhere you could consider cooling off in the shower though. I used to do that at the ocean just because I don’t like going in. I guess it doesn’t really help in terms of actual swimming but it’s something.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I have a descent list for purée but the three things I actually like out of it are the scrambled egg substitute, refried beans, and ricotta. I am also allowed reduced sugar marinara and fat free or low fat cheese so I will have a little cheddar cheese on the refried beans and I will make the ricotta bake with ricotta, marinara and mozzarella. That starts Sunday for me and I CAN’T wait. I was actually debating how long I need to wait to make sure something agrees. Like if I have the eggs for breakfast, will I know by lunch that was fine so I can try something else or should I stick to liquids for the rest of the day. I can’t remember what I did with the sleeve. Probably waited because I always tend to be over cautious with medical stuff. I dug out my handheld blender and bought some canned fruit (no sugar added) and fresh veggies that I’m going to try to make my own purées. That I didn’t do last time but I do remember getting board so I figured I may as well give it a try. Anyone else have any good ideas? -

That sounds like an exciting change of pace. You can get annual passes for some of those theme parks you’re excited to visit. -
Reminders of why I want to do this surgery

Plus you can frog the old ones and make two more in your smaller size!! For those who don’t do yarn crafts that crochet speak for “rip it rip it” out and start over. My husband refers to it as free yarn. Though that’s usually to cheer me up if I make a mistake and have to rip half of it out. -

@NeonRaven8919 I’m curious. Did you give the sewing machine a go? There are lots of videos online but also check your local library or adult school for classes. I always thought I wanted to sew and took some classes but I also started crochet around the same time and that sorta took the main stage. It came easier to me so of course that translates to it being more fun. I bet it would be a very good distraction though because I remember losing track of time when I was working on a pillowcase when I first started. I had to learn everything from how to thread the machine to how to wind a bobbin and change a needle, etc. My husband came home but it felt like it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. I was at that machine all day!! -

What do you wish you had done BEFORE your gastric bypass surgery to get ready?
ShoppGirl replied to DianeF's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Make sure to have a good thermometer handy to keep tabs on your temp post surgery. I got one for Walmart for ten bucks that’s Vicks brand that I really like. I like that it only takes like 8 seconds especially but it’s also bigger screen so easy to read plus it is red yellow or green to tell you if your temp is okay. -
At least it’s not just me. I swear I started merging details of stuff. I will be telling someone something and even as I’m saying it I’m like that doesn’t sound right does it?? Not sure if that’s an age thing or what but i do it all the time. 🤣 i also had a surprise Gall Bladder removal so I gotta figure that out. You know usually with the SADI you eat lower carb with a little more fat because we malabsorb it but now without the Gall Bladder I am supposed to stay low fat. It’s just going to be interesting finding that balance. My NP didn’t seem to think of it as such a big deal and maybe it isn’t but I am going to ask my family NP when I see her because I think it’s going to be different for me with the SADI than the average person
-
It was between the SADI and Bypass. I wanted the SADI but if not the Bypass. They did the SADI but that’s not an option when you fill in the stats so I just selected DS since that’s the closest.
-
No not shakes. Clear protein drinks. They are like water consistency so you should be allowed to have them at this stage. Check first of course but if you’re allowed they sell them just about everywhere now. I get protein 2.0 at Walmart. Just search clear protein water or drink.

Such a great suggestion. I love his podcasts and his book as well. That really could be a good fit.
-
Well hang in there. There are tons of people on here that are eager to help. You just need the right person to come along who has had similar experience.
-
That’s absurd. They are getting paid the same what difference does it make. Did your surgeon pass his patients along to anyone when he retired. I know I’ve had a couple of providers who did that and I got a letter in the mail about it. If you didn’t get one maybe your PCP could do some asking around And help you out. Although I suppose your PCP should honestly be able to help you anyways if you aren’t having any physical issues related to the surgery. You really just need nutritional advice related to your blood sugar issues from someone. A good dietician may even be able to help. I see people post on here that have very knowledgable nutritionist and dietitians but around me I haven’t had the best of luck with them. I really hope you find someone to help you out. It seems crazy to me that that surgical office would turn you away.

Thanks. I had my one week post op today and the pathology came back and I did in fact have gall stones. My surgeon did not discuss the channel length with me. Nor did he give me the option to resize my sleeve. He believes that the risks are too great for the difference it would make for me but he did also do several tests to get a good picture of my sleeve before we landed on the SADI as opposed to the bypass. Perhaps if my sleeve was larger he would have steered me towards the bypass. My surgery was robotic this time my sleeve was just laparoscopic I’m curious now what my channel length is. Not that I really know what would better one way or another. So it turns out that my pain was almost entirely from gas because I was in a great deal of it until the morning of day when I finally passed a lot of gas and with each time I felt more and more relief. I did walk quite a bit but in retrospect I would’ve walked even more if I had known how much better that toot was going to make me feel. I walked everytime I got up anyways, like to pee brush my teeth or when they woke me up in the middle of the night even. I finally pressed the issue that they switch out my IV pole machine thing. Mine had a very weak battery and even being unhooked that short time while I walked it depleted it so much that it set off alarms they had to come shut off. It was super annoying for them as well and I felt like they were acting annoyed with me as if it was my fault for calling them rather than just accepting that beeping going on all day and night. I am a super light sleeper and it went off other times too so I finally said don’t you have other patients that don’t have to unhook it so many times a day that you could switch with mine. They did and we were all happier for it. Anyways, grab that iv pile and walk walk walk. It doesn’t matter how fast you go, just that you do it. And if you have to toot or belch do not hold it in no matter what. I don’t care who is on the room. Get it out and explain later. Although the doctors and nurses should understand anyways. That was really tough for me but after the relief the first one brought I didn’t care anymore. 😆 I forget. Do you have your date Yet??
-
Have you considered getting started for your follow ups with another practice? It sounds like you could benefit from someone with some medical expertise to help get gpu into a routine that with work for you. Others who have experienced this may have some suggestions but Most offices have a NP that can probably help quite a bit with the blood sugar while maintaining your weight as well.

Eating Changes 3 months post RNY Surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Jalapeño's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This won’t help when you are out but I read that a coffee mug warmer can be fitted with a saucer plate to keep a small portion of food warm. I don’t remember what portions were like at three months but if your home you could always go for seconds if need be. Also a tip for leftovers is to bring your own takeaway container because they are far less bulky and can fit into a cooler but also because you can do it right away so that you aren’t left with a plate that looks like you haven’t touched it. -

I am really hoping that my husband and I can go on a vacation. Any vacation honestly. It has been so many years since we have had one. Between my insecurities and anxieties about my weight and the physical limitations we just haven’t found anything that seems exciting enough both of us to justify the expense. We could really use some“us” time and my husband would never admit but he would benefit from some time off. I think I may suggest to him that we go somewhere to celebrate when I hit my goal. Then we have a while to work out the details. I always wanted to go to Alaska but I think that’s mostly because I knew that it wouldn’t be too hot for me like so many other common vacation spots. I really hope that my heat tolerance goes up a bit and I can expand my options to different places. I am still only a week out so I have time to add to my list. I’m sure as my mental health improves jt will be easier for me to imagine some of these things for myself. -

Wow these are all amazing ideas. I have struggled with Depression so long due to my Bipolar Disorder but exacerbated by the weight that I have just been dreaming of doing normal things like going to family functions without tremendous anxiety about my weight or physically being able to handle the outdoor activities without dying because of the heat and physically being able to keep up with the house chores and mentally feeling well enough to do any of that. I can’t even wait to start dreaming of action packed vacations and things like that. You guys are giving me tons of inspiration. -
Do I have a revision
ShoppGirl replied to indianlight's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just noticed that you are talking about a revision. With the revision there really are more than just the main options. They will most likely do a few tests beforehand to get the best picture of what’s going on inside. I had a endoscopy, a barium swallow study and. A gastric emptying study.done before we decided for certain that the SADI was right for me. Some doctors will convert a bypass to Sadi I believe but they can also do something to revise only the pouch. I forget what they call that. Honestly when I comes to revision I know this isn’t exactly true but it almost seems like they make it up as they go 😆 they really do get a good look at your very unique circumstances and take all the knowledge they have from all the procedures they can do and come up with a plan that will work best for you. The names for the surgery get really difficult at that point because really what they actually do from one revision to the next is going to vary depending on the patient and the surgeon. Some surgeons for instance would’ve made my pouch smaller during the revision. Mine doesn’t think it’s worth it given the risks it brings. I would really recommend that you get started with a surgeon and see what options they even offer you and if you don’t love them maybe even get a second opinion because not all surgeons will approach it the same way and some don’t perform all of the procedures there are to offer either. -

Had my one week post op appt today. She said my incisions look good but when she was cleaning one of them mostly because I was scared since the bandage came off in the shower and it was bleeding she noticed my pain lying on the table and getting up. She told me that I am trying to be too tough and that I need to take my pain meds. I ended up talking to her about that again today and she said if I don’t want to take them thatI could take Tylenol and try a muscle relaxer which I just picked up both and came home with the groceries popped the trunk and went inside. My husband took the hint since I had already texted him that I was hurting pretty bad. lol. I mostly talked to her about my gallbladder since I didn’t know anything about that ahead of time and didn’t much care while I was in the hospital. She made it sound like for most people it’s not really that big of a deal. I may have some issues with super rich and greasy foods but for most people that’s about it. She also started me in B-12 injections. She said it usually ends up being required witb the SADI but now with the gallbladder thing too she may as well just start me now. I am starting with once a month and we will tweak it from there depending on labs. So I picked that up too and ordered the sharps container and medical grade alcohol swabs. Wish me luck since I can’t even look when I get a shot. I feel like I have had to learn so much this week. A lot of surprised but am still just rolling with the punches. My biggest thing that’s pulling me through right now is that Sunday I get to have purées. 😆 Good luck to the two having surgery tomorrow and I hope that everyone else is going well with preop and recovery. ❤️🩹 -
Back to the topic. I think this forum and Dr Weiners website have been far more informative than any classes or support groups. I really do think they should standardize it all though. Would be way less stressful for the patient.
