Revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD (Trigger Warning)
ShoppGirl replied to CrazyDog&CatLady's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Its your decision. Some people choose to tell everyone, no one, or a select few. You should do what works best for you. Keep in mind it’s kinda hard to hide for a little while post op if anyone will be eating around you. But it’s far easier to divulge the news after the fact anyways. Fingers crossed you get a surgery date on. -

I found a “recipe” where you mix 1/4 Cup of low fat or non fat (if you can find it) cottage cheese in with two scramble eggs and it comes out to 18g protein. It made almost 3 1/4 cup servings so 6g per serving. To me the cottage cheese tastes kinda salty so it adds a bit of salt and creaminess to the eggs. I’m not sure how soft the eggs will be leftover though (may be too dry for us right now)! so I think next time I may just make one egg at a time. I am curious to try it with just egg whites to reduce the fat and up the protein even more because I can probably use 3 egg whites for the 3 servings. -

@draikaina8503 for the boiled chicken you just bring it to a boil and then reduce to simmer and cover it. It’s been a while but if I remember correctly it took close to 15 minutes for a giant chicken breast like you get from Walmart. You just take it out and cut it or use a meat thermometer to know it’s done but after you’ve done it a couple times you will pretty much just know time wise. -

Make sure you ask your team about bubble bathes before you take them. I was told no bath or swimming for a while. I would have ti look at the paperwork but I think it was 6 or 8 weeks maybe. I love that your hubby is on board to eat the healthy foods with you, that will make it a lot more fun. Maybe you can do a blog or a thread on here with recipes if you have the time?? And your sister being so supportive is amazing. I found That I used the food processor instead of the immersion blender in the purée stage but it was super sweet of they regardless. I got a little 3 cup one. Actually splurged Quite a bit on the kitchen aide one so it wouldn’t bugg me to leave it out but bf budget doesn’t permit for that they have them far more reasonably priced. I have puréed eberything. I also found these little containers from dollar tree to be super handy to store leftovers in individual portions. They are 2.6 oz I think. 1/4c is 2oz and I am allowed 1/8 to 1/4 on puree so then take up a lot less room in fridge than all the big leftover containers and I can keep a pretty good variety that’s grab and go. They are basically little baby containers if you don’t have dollar tree I’m sure Amazon has something. I also got a couple of packs of their little desert sized paper plates for now and spoons so I don’t have to deal with as many dishes for a while. in terms of weighting it was really hard for me not to weigh everyday but what I did with the sleeve was to record my weight in my phone notes once a week so that when I got discouraged I could look back at that and see the overall downward trend. You can do it in the Baritastic app as well or on this app but doing it was than daily sort of reinforced it to my brain that little daily fluctuations didn’t matter. I’m curious to see what pill organizer you got. I have added magnesium at night now so I have five doses a day. I didn’t think they made one big enough for all these big vitamins so many times per day. Although I figure that most times I will only need to take the calcium while I’m out. Then again it couldn’t hurt to keep a couple multi vitamins with us just in case we would get stuck out unexpectedly. I do that with my rx meds and these are just as important ooh and if you like the fruit flavors chews you may like the caramel to change it up as well they are sorta like weathers original flavor but better because they are chewy. -

Word of caution. If you need to take a laxitive and you finally are able to go. Just the once may not be the end of it and the rest it not hard at all. it’s very lose. I went to do a Walmart pickup, stopped for gas on the way and got it all down the side of my car so I went through the automatic car wash. Well it always pushes in my mirror so I jumped out to move it back real quicK and I almost went in my pants. Luckily I live really close and I made it but I’m thinking of putting some of them potty pads in my seat with a towel over it until my bowels can figure out what they want to do so if it does happen at least it won’t get on my seat. 🤷🏼♀️ -
I told my friend about my near miss today. I had to take a laxative because apparently my bowels can’t figure out what they want to do and I was finally able to go. Well note to self. That one time may not be the end of it. I went to do a Walmart pickup but I stopped for gas and got it all down the car so I went through the automatic car wash which always pushes in my passenger side mirror. Well I jumped out sorta quick using my ab muscles and I ALMOST had and accident. Luckily I live close and I made it but OMG. I won’t be going out if I have to take that again. So anyways, I was telling her this story and she said remember that Olean. Literally just now. I thought that was pretty hilarious that my bowels are reminding me of the product that made everyone have bathroom issues. 🤣

I found a Keto terriaki sauce on Walmart to ship that has 7g carbs but no added sugar and 1g fat per serving. Haven’t tried it yet but it’s called hungry squirrel if anyone is interested. I’m really hoping it is good. -
Okay I was talking about this with my friend and she didn’t have weight loss either but was losing hair and her hairdresser suggested a vitamin Moerie that is for hair growth. She said she tried the collagen peptides for over a year and they did not work for her but this vitamin is actually working. They sell it on Amazon.

Yea. I vaguely remember them chips. I guess not many people were willing to deal with it since they didn’t stick around. But it is pretty sad what we will try when we are desperate enough. What’s so odd for me is everyone I talked to about the surgery warned me about diarrhea and I haven’t had it yet. I guess that means that I’m eating right. I Just gotta get more fiber because I have the opposite issue.

Surgeon Appointment - YAY!
ShoppGirl replied to MrsFitz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This all takes a minute to wrap your mine around and I think for you getting the appointment with the surgeon just made it real. Like others have said this is what you have been working towards. It’s a good thing. I suggest using the notes app in your phone if you have one to jot down your notes questions. This way if you think of something else your notepad is always with you and you can add it right away. I printed out my questions and took them with me. One thing my friend told me she does when she has a lot of questions is to sort of go over them against at the end by sayin just to recap, I can expect this and if this happens we will do that, etc. Just to make sure that you do remember everything and understood correctly. I didn’t do it this time but it seems like a good idea. One thing that you may want to ask is if they have a patient portal and if you do have questions if that’s a good way to ask or is it better to call or what. -

Yea. I was Just trying to get In some fiber by eating veggies puréed with protein powder mixed in because I am early out and am having issues with constipation. I need fiber. I talked to the NP today and she told me to get benefiber but I am also allowed puréed oats and I double checked that I can have the rolled ones so long as I purée them. I was super excited because I really like the MUSH overnight oats although I just realized that they do have added sugar so we shall see how they go. -

@Hiddenroses my NP just called back and mentioned adding the magnesium. I said remember I’m in that for muscle cramps she said ooh yea it should help but she also said that if I purée them oats way down I can have the MUSH ones. I’m pretty excited about that because they are quite tasty and have higher fiber. -

I understand completely how you feel and agree it’s a good idea to try some different things. I didnt do much variety in the purée stage with my sleeve because I refused to try puree food that wasn’t supposed to come that way. I’m so glad I am this time to get some variety now though because for on it’s not as bad as I thought and two I’m telling you the soft food stage for me was the absolute most anxiety ridden part of the whole experience. I was worried about all the new foods not being tolorated but also if it was soft enough. After every meal I sat there for like an hour worried it was gonna come back up and then all night I worried if I hurt something inside and was gonna end up in the ER. I do struggle with anxiety normally but that stage was so much worse for me because I didn’t try the new foods during purée and I was worried about twice as much at once. Hopefully it will be better this time since I am incorporating some variety now. -

Ooh. I just started magnesium oxide 400mg at night for the leg cramp. It worked like magic for that too. It hurt one day and was worse the second then I took that at night and morning it was way better. The second day it was fine. Hopefully that will help with my constipation too. I will ask her Wednesdays if I should take two if not. She wrote it at first for the citrate but my pharmacy said they don’t have that so she changed it to the oxide one. -

Not sure if anyone else is in desperate need of variety of healthy food but I know if I’m gonna stick to this this time around I need to be able to have more meat and veggies. Anyways I Found a really good site for recipes that I thought I would share in case anyone is interested. There are some shake and purée recipes but mostly regular and soft foods There also isn’t much organization to it but there are pages and pages of recipes and some look really good….to me at least. It’s bariatricfoodie.com -

I know I really need fiber and I am scared to even do the instant oats because it says strained and I’m not sure if that means I can only have the liquid or what. Decided to make purée cauliflower. I made 1/2 cup and added a scoop of genepro. So my 1/4 cup Has 5.5g protein but more importantly it has some fiber. -

Just went to the grocery and got MUSH overnight oats and of course I had to purée them down a little further but they are really good. Now that I look my book says instant oatmeal. Guess I need to ask before I have it. -

I am starting to think that for the first month that the NP should just call all the post op patients like every few days. Seems like I have a new question everyday!! Today I want to know if it’s okay to just add soluable fiber because I am still having issues with constipation. Which is pretty odd since everyone warned me about the diarrhea that’s so common with SADI. Anyways, I continually take the two stool softeners daily but it still takes the milk of magnesia to make me go. Then I’m go the next day okay but then nothing for a couple of days until I do the milk of magnesia again and it starts over. I’m certain I need fiber but i don’t want to make things worse so I called to ask just in case. -
Has anyone tried MUSH overnight oats that are already made?
-
How are you doing? I had my SADI two weeks ago and just starting to feel more like myself. I got out of the house today for more than a trip to the grocery at least.
-
So I went with the SADI and I am two weeks post op now. I did have loose movements for three days but only the one in the morning and since then I have been constipated or normal but back and forth. It’s weird because everyone warned me about diarrhea and that hasn’t happened yet. Does it wait until you are on more normal foods maybe?

That to funny that the family is enjoying it too. I told you guys it was good. Once we can eat real food we can add veggies and even some chicken or Turkey sausage into it too. I like it with turkey sausage and onions and peppers or chicken with zucchini and onions. I just thought about it and I bet spinach is good too but never tried that one. Thanks for some guidance to get me started on the soft food phase. I am such a stickler for the rules type person that when it comes to something like this I don’t like it when they don’t give me many. I get so scared. I was fine with the sleeve whatever I did worked because I heard fine but I remember it being nerve wracking even back then. I wonder if rotisserie chicken would be okay if you get it right when it’s done. They seem to be pretty moist then. I wouldn’t do it because the next day it’s not moist enough and it’s just me and my hubby so there would be so much left over it would be a waste but if you have a family to feed it may work. Boiling it is a great idea. I had to do that for my dog for a while because her kidneys were bad and she wouldn’t eat. Then we started doing fluids every two days and it was like doggy dialysis and she got better for a while before she passed. Anyways, it was really tender and moist that way. I have also heard from so many people on here that chicken thigh is more moist than breasts. -
Ache or pain months AFTER surgery and...
ShoppGirl replied to BlondePatriotInCDA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Idk about the pain and I can’t speak personally about the goal but I have been on here for almost four years and seen several people surpass their surgeons goal for them. Do not let that discourage you. Keep doing what you are doing and let your body settle in where it is happy. They honestly shouldn’t even try to predict because every single body is different and we all respond to the surgery in different ways. On the gallbladder pain note, I would trust your gut and ask another Doctor if he just dismissed it. Only you know what your pain is. And in terms of the joint pain, maybe see what a chiropractor says. Maybe your body is off balance now because our posture is so bad to compensate for the weight and it may not have gone back on its own. Just a thought.
