Before surgery I mixed a gallon of crystal light a day (128 oz) and I didn’t try....that’s just how much I drank. Post surgery I have to force myself to drink 64 oz. I just don’t feel thirsty so I forget and of course when I do remember I can only drink a little bit. Does THIRST feeling ever come back? Any one else that doesn’t feel thirsty?? It seems so weird that making stomach smaller interferes with thirst unless grehlin is involved?? Just curious.

Dehydration after sleeve
ShoppGirl replied to Mark P3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back to the hospital as an outpatient to get fluids. I just called my doctors office and they said it up well they had the hospital call me and set an appointment that same day and I got two bags of fluids. -
I don’t know of any pills but you should be able to drink more and more each day. I didn’t reach my fluid or protein goals the first few days either. They do make clear protein drinks that aren’t thick shakes but more like water if that is easier to get down. Premier protein makes one with 20g protein in like 17oz drink. They have fruit punch and peach flavor on Amazon. Those were a life saver for me cause the protein shakes are mostly all too sweet. Although I did later learn that premier proteins’ strawberry and caffe latte (has caffeine) aren’t as sweet and I have one a day now.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad to suicide and it is very tough. I found that time was the only thing that really helped. It went from being the first and last thing I thought about each day to being the second thing and so on. Now I am finally able to think of him and smile. You are already a step ahead of me though at this point. I let the stigma of suicide keep me from talking in the beginning which is what we need to heal. I was already in therapy and I felt that helped me a lot as well but that may be because I wasn’t taking to anyone else. Still, Something to consider.

I cleared a path from one end of house to the other and I would just start walking when I felt head hunger. Just back and forth from one end to the other for about five minutes was long enough to distract me and then I would go back to whatever I was doing. I also do this while I’m on the phone or if I have any anxiety and according to Apple Watch I get like 30 exercise minutes a day without really trying.

Yea back pain is difficult for some to empathize about because you can’t see the pain. I was in car accident and had back and neck pain and remember even getting eye rolls when I talked about it cause i looked young and healthy as can be. I’m glad you are back on track and 8 blocks is great. Woo Hoo!!

I am so worried about this. My hair is fine already. Glad to hear stories of it stopping. Thanks for sharing.

I did it too and I feel like most of that weight came off real easy during pre op diet cause I lost 14 pounds pre op and I started with lower BMI. Forgive yourself and move on.

That’s amazing. Keep up the good work.

They make anti nausea patch I had in hospital. Maybe you can use that at home.

How Long Did you have to wait for surgery
ShoppGirl replied to SquirrelsNanna's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got my surgery date prior to completing my requirements because they were trying to figure out when I should start a new medication that I couldn’t be on during surgery but it was 2.5 weeks after I satisfied the requirements (16 days of that was pre-op diet). -
Tilapia is okay (good idea) but shrimp I didn’t like pre surgery. I will try it again just in case but I didn’t like because of texture so I’m pretty sure I won’t like it now either I was thinking of snow crab or lobster one night for something different though (because of course I like the expensive ones, lol) also it takes forever to eat and post surgery that’s a good thing.

Sleevers....What brand multi vitamin are you taking?
ShoppGirl replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What brand did you try? -
I have a similar dilemma today. It’s my first day of soft foods and unlike you I was not a huge fan of fish before surgery (I like mahi because it’s NOT super fishy) anyways I bought it frozen and when I defrosted I realized it will probably take me like 3 or 4 days (maybe longer) to eat it. And I will not want the same thing 3 or 4 Days in a row. Not sure what to do about that. They don’t always have fresh mahi I don’t think. Hopefully I will like other seafood since I know it’s good for me and I will be more likely to find it fresh so I can freeze the rest in smaller portions.

They make a patch that goes behind your ear for nausea. I had it in hospital in addition to iv medication but I bet you could have that or some other rx pills. I would call your dr. Why suffer needlessly.

Another thing anyone can do is ask for the lunch portion of things. I used to do it all the time when I dieted.

I found something like that on Amazon. It’s a plastic card like a credit card size.

I was March 9 also and I have only lost 26

Curious... How long before you could eat your first piece of pizza?
ShoppGirl replied to FINFAN3DP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am three weeks post op and I crave pizza when I see it on tv. That ricotta bake mentioned above really does help satisfy Italian cravings (pizza, lasagna, spaghetti, etc). -
I’m guessing but it probably has to do with your body starting to hang onto weight more because of possible pregnancy at that point.

Taking pills after surgery
ShoppGirl replied to lizonaplane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the best way to look at it is for a couple weeks at least after surgery your life WILL mostly revolve around your surgery and the fact that you’ve had surgery (getting in your meds, protein, fluids, etc). You will be inconvenienced for a short while but that won’t last forever and it will be worth it in the long run. Each day it gets a little easier and you figure it out as you go. The important thing for me was to know that worst case even if I had to spend all day taking my meds it WAS possible to get them down...somehow. -
Taking pills after surgery
ShoppGirl replied to lizonaplane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have bipolar as well and although I am not on quite so many pills now that I finally found the right combination for me, i have taken so many over the years I can swallow them without water even if I have to. I went ahead and crushed my meds to try it before surgery to help alleviate my concerns about this and while they didn’t taste great they were palatable with a spoonful of applesauce (they sell the crusher thing at Walmart but you could probably do it with the back of a spoon just to test it). i didn’t even think about it the morning after surgery and I swallowed two of the pills she handed me together at the same time with no issue and now I am three weeks out and I take 3-4 at a time with no issues (I could probably do more if I tried). You may be a little different and it may take a little less or more time but ultimately you will get there. I am already up to drinking half a glass of water pretty easily with only three weeks under my belt so you should be back to swallowing handfuls before you know it. 😆 -
I am in purée/ soft food stage (sorta in between) and I noticed a little constipation the other day and dr office said to take fiber so I did all day yesterday but then I didn’t go at all. After surgery they said if you didn’t go for two days it was the start of a big deal is this the same now? Should I just take the milk of magnesia after two days like right afterwards. Is getting enough fiber going to be a lifelong challenge?
