    Congrats on your surgery date.

    Cottage cheese

I would think it’s kinda like avacado or nuts. It’s a little higher in calories but loaded with good stuff so it’s acceptable as long as you stay within your calories for the day.

Do I have an eating disorder?

Well my psychologist said I really should see a specialist about this and be referred me to someone but she isn’t taking new patients but directed me to alliance for eating disorder awareness and I searched their website and found two people kinda close that are registered. I left a message for one of them today. If neither are taking new patients I was thinking that maybe I can just search FLORIDA and call around asking if any of them do telehealth. I will keep betterhelp in mind though. I never heard of it but I bet it would be same issue with me because I have bipolar disorder as well.

    Vitamins

Bariatric advantage also makes calcium citrate chews that are food. My nutritionist had samples of some flavors. I ordered one that I didn’t sample and didn’t like it so I called and of course I had to mail it back but they refunded it no question.

    Depression after surgery?

I would contact your psychiatrist and tell them you had surgery and ask to adjust your medication. The XR meds are definitely not absorbed the same after surgery and your body may be getting a much lower dose. Everyone is different but the first meds they mentioned that often caused issues were extended release.

    Consultation:

My BMI was under 40 and they approved it based on comorbidity of joint pain. But as catwoman7 mentioned you may want to seriously consider bypass if you suffer from GERD. That was one of the first questions the doctor asked me.

    Pre-op is NOT liquids

I had two week diet like you and two days of liquids. The two weeks was a liver shrinking diet then two days of liquids to clear out system of food I guess. I was allowed steak and onions so my husband grilled me steak and whole onion on the grill almost every night. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to eat steak for quite a while so I figured I’d eat it till I was sick of it on the pre op diet.

    May Surgeries - check in!

Hang in there. It gets easier.
  14. Like jaelzion I was on a medication that required a certain number of calories in order for the body to absorb it properly. (A mood stabilizer for bipolar that requires at least 350 calories at one time which is impossible right after and counter productive even at two months out). Between the surgeon and my psychiatrist they decided to switch me to a different medication and I decided to do it ahead of time and wait to see if it worked for me before I went through with the surgery.

    Advice about what’s to come

The only thing I wish I had done before surgery is counseling. I did the psych evaluation and passed but it was just a rubber stamp type of thing (he didn’t ask enough questions in my opinion). I didn’t help. I wanted to say all the right things so I didn’t lie but I didn’t volunteer info either. Now, post surgery I am struggling with head hunger that I believe is disordered eating of some sort and I am trying to get in to see someone about it soon before I waste The opportunity to use this tool as intended and be successful. Do the mental work beforehand so you aren’t racing the clock like me.
  16. I went back and forth till the very last day wondering if what I was about to do to my body was too extreme and was afraid of complications. I am so glad that I did it. Zero regrets. Except the most common one that I didn’t do it sooner.

    Struggling

I am glad you are feeling better about this. Just remember through any stall (because you will have a few through this process) that no human can survive on the limited calories we are consuming (assuming you are sticking to your plan) and not lose weight. Your body may fight it for a little while but the loss is inevitable.

    Surgery Day!!!!!

I hope your surgery went well and you are recovering at home or will be soon. I hated the taste of the protein shakes right after surgery. They all tasted way too sweet to me so I did a lot of the clear protein drinks (premier protein fruit punch was my go to) I found on Amazon. There are tons of clear protein options. Probably as many brands as there are of shakes.
  19. Just be patient. It is impossible to eat as few calories as we eat post surgery and not lost weight. Your body is just adjusting. I have learned from many others on this site that happens to most of us within the first month and is often around week three and called the three week stall for that reason. If you do a search for the term you will see how common it is. Stick to your plan and you will be losing before you know it.
  20. They definitely mean after you add milk or water to the soup. It gets much thinner when mixed. You have to strain it to get the “chunks” out. For instance the cream of chicken has like 3 or 4 small chunks of chicken in it that you have to get out. One thing you didn’t mention is clear protein drinks. I got premier protein fruit punch flavor and they weren’t bad but there are tons of them out there. Try not to stock up on too much that someone else In your house won’t eat though if you can avoid it. Especially sweet stuff. For some reason sweet stuff tastes different to many of us post surgery and you don’t want to be stuck with a bunch of expensive shakes or waters that you don’t like after surgery. I have two boxes of protein shakes from Amazon that I can’t drink now and I am two months out and still don’t like them post surgery.
  21. I think it’s important that you are just honest. The psychiatrist I seen did not ask a lot of questions and I literally just left a message today to try to schedule an appointment with a specialist because I feel I have issues with food that I need to work on. Having already had the surgery I am racing against the clock to figure them out before I waste this tool. We all have been there dying to get the surgery even one week sooner at all costs but you will not get flat out denied if anything it will just be delayed but that time will be well spent preparing you to be In the best place after your surgery. So what seems devastating having to wait could mean the difference between the surgery helping you to the full extent.

Lying about not getting surgery is awful

I told a very small group of people beforehand cause I just needed to do it for myself but now that it is said and done I am more open. I think people like everything else in life are as private of a person as they are and they will share as much or as little as they are comfortable sharing. Some people are just very private in all parts of their life.
