September Surgery Buddies!!
ShoppGirl replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations to all the September surgeries. -
I gained some weight and my surgeon didn’t seem to care but it varies from dr to dr. It also varies patient to patient because some patients, with health concerns or higher BMI need to lose weight before they can do the surgery safely and also probably because of different insurance policies. As for what to expect at pre op they just went over what to expect at surgery. I watched a video, chatted about last minute concerns with the surgeon, signed a lot of paperwork and they gave me a surgical soap to use for a few days before the surgery. I didn’t meet the anesthesiologist until the morning before surgery and he just asked medical questions to make sure I was fit to go under anesthesia.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
ShoppGirl replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you allowed caffeine? If so Amazon, Walmart and Costco (I just heard they are on sale this month there on another thread) have premier protein shakes and the caffe latte was the first shake I liked post surgery. Before I found that I did their clear protein drinks. It’s fruit punch but somehow not nearly as sweet as many of the shakes. Lots of brands make the clear protein if you don’t like fruit punch. Hope this helps. -
Sick from protein powders

Heads up about the caffe latte (which I agree is delicious btw) it has caffeine. Some people aren’t allowed caffeine that soon post op. -
You don’t have to disclose anything about your WLS just to ask about weight neutral meds though. I asked my dr for these long before I even considered WLS. It can’t hurt to ask at least.

For those who are comfortable talking about it, my dr said statistically because of my bipolar I will not lose as much weight as those who have the same surgery and do not have bipolar. I honestly thought he was wrong but my weight loss seems to be slowing to a crawl and I am still 16 pounds from the top of normal BMI range. I know that some people never reach a normal BMI but I had hoped to get there plus a little cushion for the bounce back weight. I was always thin until I was 25 so I hoped I’d be one of the lucky ones. I am just curious to hear others stories firsthand.

Does your doctor agree this is the best course for you to just stop your meds? There are weight neutral ones. Not all have such side effects.

I may try this and just ask my hubby to help. He will complain but what’s new. He uses self tanner himself so it’s not like he doesn’t know how to do it. Lol.

I have thought about using that but I sweat a lot especially when I wear shorts and sit on vinyl and that’s when I would want to use it and I worry it would come off on the furniture.

Exactly One year today!!

Congratulations!! -
I appreciate your being ao safe in the sun. Both my husband and I are always safe now too. I am just looking for a bit of color with a fake spray on tan (make up) or a self tan tbat I can actually do to myself without it looking ridiculous.

What are your favorite food go-to's ?
ShoppGirl replied to Candace76's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The meatballs sound good for regular food stage. We’re they easy to make? -
Does you clinic offer support groups. That would be a great place to meet people who are going through or have gone through this process in real life.

How do they pick your goal weight?

I think BMI is even less accurate for men at times. -
Returning to work
ShoppGirl replied to KingKev_VSG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My advice would be to see if you can return part time at first. I was fine after a few days other Than I was just so darn tired. I needed to take naps daily. -

That’s an excellent thread but obviously all those foods are not for every stage. Just a heads up just in case. -
Ooh I so hope I can afford to get my boobs done. I have boobs. Too much of them. I got implants when I was tiny but then gained weight and a lot of it went to my boobs. Enough that I qualified for reduction but dr said if he took as much out as required by insurance I would not be happy cause I would be super tiny afterwards. I have to pay oop but after I lose the weight it may just be the right time to do so. Has anyone else used care credit to finance plastics. That is my hope. (I have it from my vets office but they take it at some plastic surgeons offices).

If you look at the inches of a size chart. There are more increments between sizes for the “normal” sizes. -

Absolutely. If your healthy and happy with the way you look that’s all that matters. Many WLS patients do not ever get down to a “normal” BMI. Some by choice (not sure how many try and can’t).
