    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Weight loss has slowed down to a crawl. I am 23 pounds from Goal still and beginning to worry I will never get there.

    Day 7 blues

Just try to hang in there. Each and every day it gets a little easier. Some of us have a slower recovery than others but you will get there. Just take lots of tiny- tiny sips.
  3. You may not feel restriction with the portions you are expected to be eating. For some reason I could eat more than expected at any given stage if I wanted. I did feel restriction just not as soon as expected. I am almost 6 months out now I COULD eat quite a bit more than I am supposed to. I think this is uncommon and the other responses are far more likely but even if it’s the case I just stick to measuring out what i should be eating and I am losing weight just the same.
  4. I am almost six months out and I can eat everything I did post surgery. I am still in the losing phase so I don’t make a habit of eating things like pizza and pasta but I have tried them once just to see if my stomach would tolerate them and it does just fine. I have heard people who develop food allergies or just discomfort post surgery though. But it seems like once it is something that is unpleasant to eat they no longer miss it. So I almost think this may be a good thing to help aid in making healthier choices??

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

I have VERY SEVERE bipolar so this was a huge concern for me. To the point that I did sleeve anyways but I did not find this community until a day or two pre surgery and I did not get the feedback that I have seen since then. One thing I did do, which you may consider to help ease some anxiety, is to go ahead and try another combination of meds NOW. Pre-surgery. One of my meds needed 350 calories to absorb fully so I knew it may not work as well post surgery so while I was waiting my 6 months anyways I tried another medication. (I also started the immediate release version of my Wellbutrin because extended release meds seem to cause the most issues just so I knew other than taking it twice a day it was no different). For me, Just knowing that there was in fact another medication combination that worked for me allowed me to go into surgery with a lot less fear.
  6. I agree. This is a big life changing surgery and you should get the one you want. I have bipolar so meds absorption can be a bigger issue with bypass plus I had lower BMI so he thought bypass would be overkill, but even still my dr said he would do it if I really wanted it (but he also stressed the risks). I think you should consider looking to another doctor if that one refuses to do what you want.

What to do with craving food?

I suggest a therapist that specializes in disordered eating. Many people benefit from them in this community. I always thought it was actual hunger that I was experiencing pre surgery but now that I am still having jt post surgery I know it is head hunger and I indeed have an eating disorder of sort. (I have only had one session with mine and can’t say if it’s going to help but so many people swear it changed their lives I figured I’d try it).

    Preop to vsg question

My surgery was about three weeks after that last appointment. It was already scheduled months prior though cause I was starting a new medication I couldn’t be on during surgery and the two doctors had to figure out when I should start taking it. They scheduled surgery and said I should take two weeks after.

    Food progress

I buy the frozen cauliflower crusts alone. Two in a pack at Walmart and I cut them up when I get home since they are partially thawed. Then when I want a slice I add my own toppings and pop one in the oven (I add cooked chicken after it’s done so it doesn’t dry out). I honestly can’t even tell the difference anymore. This is my pizza and it’s quite tasty. It’s not in the pizza section it’s in gluten free section at my Walmart.

    Food Diary/Journals

If your wanting to track your moods and things along with your calories and intake you could just use the notepad app in your phone. I use it to track my weight. I record it daily but on surgery date each month I delete all but that day so I can see the downward trend month to month.
  11. Consider using this time and energy trying out some healthy recipes that you will be able to eat post op. I am not much of a chef so I only have a handful of things I eat now and it can get boring if you don’t have a variety of recipes in your Arsenal. Fingers crossed you won’t have to wait long.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Collagen Peptides are great for skin and some take it in hopes it will help decrease excess skin. The only problem is that post surgery it may be a less absorbable form of protein for us than whey protein I assume you can still use it you may just have to consume a bit more than what the package says to actually absorb what you need. I would ask your team.
  13. This is a valid concern. Hopefully if it does get delayed it’s just by a short time. Fingers crossed there are no shutdowns.
  14. Hope all went well today.
  15. I lost weight faster on the pre op diet but I was a lower starting BMI. I lost 14 in two weeks pre op then 10 in my first month post op and less each month from there. But again I was lower starting BMI so I am a slow loser.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

I haven’t done much research on this because I like whey protein anyways but the bariatric advantage rep was on Facebook live with the nurse practitioner from my office during the online support group meeting and she said that whey is the most easily absorbed and mentioned collagen as one that is less absorbable. When they checked my vitamins they also checked protein so I assume they will for you as well but if your protein is lower than expected the type of protein may be an issue. Just a heads up.
  17. Immediately post op I actually tested with low blood pressure while at the doctor and he told me to buy one for home and keep an eye on it. He said to make sure I was getting enough fluids. I told him I was getting 64 oz but I used to get twice that. He seemed to think this was my issue.

    Loose skin in 30s

I am 42 and have lost 50 pounds and do not seem to have any loose skin so far. I have 25 more pounds to goal though so idk if it happens more at the end of weight loss or if you can tell while still losing.
  19. My husband thought that they just cut the fat out of you somehow. He thought people just left the hospital skinny my somehow. And my husband is not an ignorant man…usually…lol. He said when He thought it through that didn’t make sense but he hadn’t ever given it much thought. I think that many people think it’s somehow instant though. Ooh and my psychologist said why don’t you just ask them to take more out. Referring to fat when I told him I was worried I wouldn’t lose as much as I want to. This is a man with a doctorate degree. 😂
  20. Maybe you have developed an allergy? I don’t know much about this but have seen people on here who have developed allergies post surgery.

Does anyone have a healthy meatloaf recipe I can have during weight loss phase? I am craving meatloaf so bad. I figured I’d ask where the talented chefs amongst us like to hang out. Lol
