It is humanly impossible to be gaining weight on 400-450 calories. Just stick to the plan and the downward trend will pick up.

What to buy to prep for post op protein supplements?
ShoppGirl replied to mrsjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember the feeling wanting to do everything I could to prepare but I wouldn’t stock up too much. Post op many people have taste changes especially with sweet things like the protein shakes. (I had to give away two- 12 packs because I didn’t like them post op and hubby didn’t either). Anyways, Amazon has a variety pack of the premier protein that would be good to sample shakes post op. Maybe some other brands sell variety packs as well. I wish I had just stuck to those. Then you can just have shakes delivered in whatever flavor you can tolerate. -
I ate a lot of ricotta bake and retried beans as well as chicken, egg and tuna salad. Mostly the ricotta bake though.
-
The first thing I tried was scrambled eggs. But even at 7 months out my go to is premiere protein shake caffe latte. It fills me up till lunch. I’m not sure carnation instant breakfast has as much protein in it. If not you could add extra protein powder or switch to protein shakes.

What was your first desert after sleeve?
ShoppGirl replied to alandk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A lot of people wait until their in maintenance to have desert for the first time but I wanted to know if I was going to dump on sugar so I had half of a candy bar to see how I tolerated it. I didn’t dump so now I know that I can have sugar in moderation during maintenance and I haven’t really craved it since. I have recently discovered the quest candy bites. The caramel ones are my favorite. They are small so it’s only like 80 calories and there is at least some protein in them. -

1990 RNY revision at age 73

I agree 100% you need to be able to use your arm to lift yourself. I worried when I went home from hospital I wouldn’t be able to get up without pulling myself up using the bed rails. I figured it out but I definitely used my arms. Sorry to hear of your setback but glad to hear you have a game plan and look forward to hearing more of your story. -
Happy to hear you have a good doctor who took the time to advocate for you. Fingers crossed you will get a surgery date this year.
-
Unless you have any unforeseen complications you should be just fine that far out. I agree with asking your doctor about compression stockings for the flight and getting up and walking during the flight.

I admit that I have tried a bit of off plan foods but it wasn’t really to get just a taste it was because I wanted to know if I was going to have an intolerance to certain foods or if I would get dumping syndrome. I didn’t and I haven’t craved any of those foods again. Now that I know I will be able to have these foods In moderation in the future, I think I can now complete the weight loss phase without having any of that stuff again.

Is there a trick to cooking the chickpea pasta? I cooked it according to directions and it was still very chewy. Compared to pasta it would be about half done. Does it just not get to the consistency of aldente pasta? Should I cook longer than directions state?? I really want to like it but so far it’s not even close to pasta to me.

On my 2 week pre op liquid diet
ShoppGirl replied to Philophobia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am only seven months out and at five months out I have tried little bits of any and everything I had pre surgery to include pasta, chocolate, pizza, etc. I had these things ONCE because I wanted to know if I could tolorate them and I can so I haven’t really wanted them again. Now that I know that once weight loss phase is over that I can enjoy all the foods that I used to love on occasion I do not feel as deprived on the weight loss phase. My point being that as others have said, you will eat the foods you love again. Just in much smaller portions (but you will be okay with the smaller portions). -
Should I be concerned that my doctor told me i will be her biggest patient to have performed surgery on?
ShoppGirl replied to FootballMom92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would be concerned but at the same time I would be thankful that you decided to consider this route before it was too late (before your BMI was even higher and the surgeon was not comfortable performing the surgery). I would try to lose as much weight as possible pre surgery. Every bit will help to make the surgery even safer. You can even ask to start with the nutritionist now to drop some of the weight. -
Dumping for 4 days straight? Need advice.
ShoppGirl replied to HajEddie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the possible reaction to artificial sweeteners. I told my best friend to try the twizzlers zero and she said they are the best laxitive she ever had. If the same sweeteners are in the jello and your shake it is very likely that as your culprit. Glad to hear you got some medicine and some relief. -
Hi, brand new from Ireland and worried how much time is spent prepping meals after the op
ShoppGirl replied to Maroux's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t spend much time prepping meals at all. I have protein shake for breakfast, P3 protein pack for lunch and usually chicken or fish for dinner. It’s kinda boring but it’s simple. Luke others said, You can do more if you want to. I just don’t do a lot of cooking so this works for me. -
I wonder if target carries them individually. I know that they carry a lot of protein bar options I just can’t recall if they sell them individually.

How do I slow my eating down?
ShoppGirl replied to erica1030's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sat near a clock with a second hand. I still didn’t slow it down as much as some but I made sure wash bite took a minute at least to chew. I never had any pain though. If you need to go even slower though, you can just measure more time between bites. I was thinking of learning to use chopsticks during the process but I never did go buy any. -
Follow YOUR teams plan. Trust the process and try not to compare yourself or your journey to everyone. We are all in the same boat but All of our experiences are unique as we are.

The only thing that keeps me full
ShoppGirl replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That’s weird. I never noticed that warm fluids kept me any more full feeling. Then again I still haven’t experienced what I think is real hunger. I say do whatever works though. I mean if you like soup and warm beverages, and they make you satiated longer. -
It sounds like others have you covered. I will just add that that I would definitely still run this by your doctor in case they have anything to Add.

How many calories a day?
ShoppGirl replied to MaureenA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds about what I was doing when I was at your stage. I think you are doing fine. -
It’s rare but some people do not lose weight on the liver shrink diet. Of course those that already lost their water weight lose less but i have heard of the rare occasion of people losing nothing (still their liver was fine to complete the surgery).
-
I agree with others. Best to get advice from your team. Hope it gets better soon.

How many calories a day?
ShoppGirl replied to MaureenA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 months out and I have around 8-900 a day. My team did not give me a calorie goal so idk if this is ideal or not. I actually have an appointment Wednesday and this is a question I will be asking.
