August Surgery buddies
ShoppGirl replied to Averdra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea. I eat five times a day. Well technically breakfast is a shake with coffee so that’s drinking but I have two meals and two snacks. Takes that much to reach my protein goal unless I just ate meat and eggs all day -

Did you get any answers about the dry skin? -
@Selina333 instead of quoting you can type the persons screen-name like I did yours with the @ symbol in front then select it from the dropdown box and it will notify the person that you mentioned them in a topic.

Well you motivated me to see what was available for cheaper in my area in order to hopefully give you some suggestions and I found out that my own community center has lots of classes for cheap. They have a yoga class that looks promising. It’s Stretch and Flow Yoga. I have no clue what that means and I’m pretty sure it’s not beginner but I will just start in the back and do what I can I guess. 🤷🏼♀️ They also have a class that does some strength training and moderate cardio that I think I need to wait a little longer in the cardio and I know I need to wait two more weeks to be cleared for weights. I will be able to do them both time wise eventually, though, which would be 4 days a week. I’m seriously excited. I really hope that you find something that makes you excited too because exercise really does make you feel better once you get into the grove. Now I just have to figure out what people are wearing to Yoga nowadays. She says as she plans to go check out Amazon right after this. 😂

PostOp week 2…craving coffee
ShoppGirl replied to DinoMama3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely try the recipe above. I was an iced coffee junkie, and I learned to make mine with a caramel protein shake, and I have used the skinny syrups and they are quite tasty as well. I’m sure the pumpkin will be delicious and then you can have it every day with no guilt plus get your protein in early in the day. That’s what I have what I call my proffee which is my caramel shake that has 30 g of protein and a little coffee over ice every morning. That’s my breakfast even after I had the sleeve and gained all my weight back. That was the only thing that stuck and I still did it before my revision and now again after. If you don’t wanna go through all that they also make one called Café latte that’s premier protein makes it and it’s like a latte but it’s 30 g of protein and it has caffeine in it. -
Did you check your community center. I did some looking around and mine has group fitness classes. Maybe yours does too? If not, I would ask who you talk to in order to request it.

Weird question for you, after you exercise and you hop in the shower do you shampoo your hair every time or do you just rinse it really well? I know it’s not good to shampoo it every day but like I said, mine gets pretty sweaty and gross. I’ve been just rinsing it every other day like really really well though and shampooing it in between, but I wanted to ask my dermatologist if that was OK for my scalp and I forgot.

Thanks everyone. I use Baritastic and when you type in like salmon or skinless chicken breast it doesn’t specify raw or cooked: I will see if there is another option further down that does specify when I enter things though. I just wanted to try to figure it out, especially with the meat because I don’t want to be getting less protein than I think I am. I have weighed the meats before and after cooking thinking maybe it wasn’t that much of a difference so it didn’t matter much, but it decreases quite a bit

I went seven days and actually gained a pound but then I lost two and I thought well at least I ended up going down one but two days later I dropped two more right away which brought it back almost to my average just a little less I think our bodies just get really panicked that we are trying to kill them and they start doing that fighter flight thing they fight for their lives Lol -
If I remember correctly, the YMCA is quite a bit cheaper if you can swing the yearly fee.

One thing that helped motivate me to get started with at least 15 minutes a day was the physicians assistant said at one of my support group meetings before my surgery that just exercising 90 minutes a week which you can spread out over six days at 15 minutes each (which is 25 when you include your warm-up and cool down if it’s more than walking) But just that decreases your risk of “all-cause mortality” by 15%. The PA and surgeon agreed that no surgery, no pill, nothing else they can prescribe you is going to have such a phenomenal impact So exercise is pretty darn beneficial. I mean, I know for myself I was scared of a 2% risk of complications from the surgery that may or may not even actually kill me, but they’re giving me a 15% decrease of chances of mortality, that’s pretty huge just to dedicate less than a half hour of your day to walking around a little bit. And a brisk walk is all it takes for me to achieve the heart rate they’re speaking about because it doesn’t have to be full on high intensity, just raising it a bit. I’m not sure if it will be as profound for you but I heard that before my surgery and six weeks later it’s still ringing around in my mind as I’m exercising. I’m thinking wow you know weight loss aside, this is really a good thing that I’m doing for my health. After I got started, though I wanted to do more and more, but my goal is to do my 15 minutes, no matter what and that is my only expectation for myself at this point.

I would call your surgeon. Any new or worse pain especially that far out I would say better safe than sorry.

I hope everything went okay and you’re recovering well by now. Just take one step at a time with the recovery and you will do fine.

He makes thing so easy to understand. I really like him. Thanks for sharing.

5 weeks post op (Sadi S)
ShoppGirl replied to Milagros Roman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone’s post op plan is different. At five weeks I was on soft foods post SADI revision but it’s important to follow the plan your surgeon set for you. It goes by pretty fast. You will be able to eat again soon. For soups, if you get a good soup and strain it (like from a restaurant) that can be a little treat because the broth is more flavorful even if you can’t have the noodles. If you are on soft but just can’t have the noodles, try having just the broth with the veggies (celery can cause some people issues, though so be mindful of that). Honestly the longer you can go without having processed carbs the better. Carbs make you crave more carbs (or that’s how it works for many people anyways). -
Hope you are feeling back to your normal self real soon ❤️

Yes but stair steps should burn more calories than flat normal steps. It’s not going to be a lot but it’s a start. My hope was that would motivate you to do a little more. I walked outside starting with only 15 minutes going really slow and now I’m up to 5-7 miles daily a little faster. I sweat horribly bad by the end of my street. I actually have craniofacial hyperhydrosis and after my walk I’m literally drenched my hair is saturated like I just got out of a pool. It’s disgusting and stopped me from exercising for years because I was so mortifying embarrassed but I just decided one day after my revision surgery that I’m doing this for my health and not anyone else and if someone thinks I’m gross then they can look away and I just did it. After I exercise I walk straight to the laundry room and strip then hop in shower before I even say hello to my hubby. Then I get my exercise clothes out of the dryer from the night before and just wear that if I don’t have to go anywhere. They are so comfy I just sleep in them and I’m ready to go the next day. I make dinner before I leave so hubby can eat if he wants and pop mine In the microwave once I’m all showered and changed. The day after I went the first time I woke up feeling so proud of myself and energized and each day after it has been easier and I have wanted to do more and more. It’s actually quite addicting.

IBS - 2yrs out - Irritable Bowel Syndrome
ShoppGirl replied to cookiecutter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I haven’t had any experience with this but personally if I had anything weird with my stomach I would see my surgeon to see what they have to say. Some people do develop allergies post surgery. And we can all develop allergies at anytime. Can you pinpoint certain foods or drink. Maybe keep a food log in the mean time but I would see your surgeon and see if they think it’s surgery related. -

If you guys aren’t planning children now consider the IUD. I got the Mirena and I have no clue why I waited this long. No more periods for me. I spotted once in a while for a couple of months and nothing since. No more emotional rollercoasters or food cravings either. I used to have such heavy bad periods with all of the symptoms and now once In a while when I go pee I see a tiny bit of blood on the tissue but that’s it. No cramps, cravings, fatigue, moodiness, none of it. It’s amazing. I’m not sure if there are risks with getting it if you are planning children in the future because I’m past that so I would definitely ask some questions about that but it’s something to think about. -
Some changes... Finally
ShoppGirl replied to Rashi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tastes certainly change post surgery. Prior to my sleeve I was a salty snack girl. Had the sleeve and I started craving sweets all of a sudden. Possibly part of why it didn’t work for me. Woke up from my revision craving healthy Food-food though. Even for snacks I want nourishment not junk. I wanted fish tacos so bad during my entire liquid phase and I like things like spinach now. It’s weird. You may not like stuff you loved before but you may also like some things you didn’t before so be open to trying things. Hopefully you will find some healthy things you love to replace them things you don’t like now. Ooh and if you like peanut butter and have some vanilla shakes left over try mixing PB2 into your shake. It takes a lot of mixing and you won’t want to do it until your cleared for like purées because it makes it a little thicker but it’s really good and it increases the protein. Ooh another thing you can do with the shakes to cut the sweetness is to mix them with coffee. I actually buy the caramel ones that are really sweet intentionally to make my iced coffee. It’s delicious. -
Yea. I’m almost 6 weeks. Post SADI but I’m revised from sleeve and it’s pretty much the same. It goes from constipation to loose stool and back again. Takes a while to figure out what combo of fiber, stool softeners and laxitives work best for you. The protein, vitamins, and lack of adequate fiber in your diet as well as pain meds and I believe even the anesthesia take a toll for a while. I am still on two stool softeners a day and soluble fiber plus I was low on magnesium so I’m taking that which also helps with Bowel function. I am trying to wean off the stool softeners now since I am eating a bit more fiber and the NP said to cut back one dose at a time and to do a few days taking it every other day before cutting it out. Just in case anyone else wondered how to do that. I tried to just cut out one dose and ended up needing a laxative. Hopefully her way works.

Do you live where an above ground pool would be feasible? You really don’t need anything big to do aerobics. Or even just use your stairs more. Everytime you need to go up or down just make a second trip. That way there is plenty of rest in between but it’s twice as much as you do now. It’s raining outside now and I literally just walked from one end of my house to the other back and forth for an hour to get my steps in. My husband thinks I’m a little nuts but that’s okay. I wish I had stairs in my house. That’s great for your backside I bet. 🤣

Should I Consider A Revision?
ShoppGirl replied to GataAnime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Of course. It’s really hit or miss. It’s weird. Some insurances still don’t cover them at all. Some doctors are getting their own compounded versions too that are a little more affordable. My family doctor said they were looking into getting one. Hoping they could get it below $200. -

Actually a lot of insurance companies are starting to cover it. Moreso if you are at high risk for heart disease but some just depending on BMI. I have one friend on it for $25 a month and another with a coworker on it for zero copay!! I would have a chat with your team and see what your coverage would be.
