November Surgery Buddies!!!
ShoppGirl replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats. -
Congratulations and good luck on reaching your new goal.

I agree that a bariatric therapist would be helpful to you with or without surgery. The surgery is a tool. The smaller stomach and the decreased hunger hormones help but the head hunger will remain lost surgery and you have to get that under control for this to be the most successful. I am only learning post surgery that I have these issues so I am now doing the work that you can do pre surgery and you will be ahead of the game.

Complex trauma/ developmental trauma
ShoppGirl replied to Gen71's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you have emotional eating issues a bariatric therapist may be a helpful component to your success. The surgery is just a tool. Smaller stomach And decreased hunger hormones help but head hunger will remain and we have to learn to control it. I am an emotional/boredom eater and while I am still losing weight I struggle with my food choices daily. I believe this will be a lifelong struggle for me. To answer your question I am 8 months out and I have sampled all the foods I used to eat and I can tolerate them. But I will choose not have them again until maintenance as I know That they will not help me lose weight. Like mentioned above dumping is more of an issue with Sadi than with the sleeve so really high fat and high sugar foods may give You issues. But from what I understand people who have issues with these foods develop aversions to them so I don't think you Crave them anymore so you don’t really miss them. Maybe someone who has dumping Issues can weigh in about that. -
If the excessive sweating remains a problem you should ask your dr about oxybutinin. It’s an incontinence drug but a side effect is decreased sweating. I have to take it because the sweating was so bad with Wellbutrin. Seriously. It works though. Also, decreasing the Wellbutrin dose. I was able to get away with a slightly lower dose and with the oxybutinin I dont Sweat right out of the shower anymore.

Gastric bypass and dental cleaning
ShoppGirl replied to Breanne (w 2 pups)'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That tooth polish has baking soda or something in it. Maybe you swallowed a significant amount and it’s upsetting your healing tummy? That’s the only thing I can think of.or like jacks123 said maybe it’s coincidence time wise and you are just coming down with something? -
It may be cheaper to order the dress In a couple sizes than to alter it too much. Then at least you can sell the unaltered dress afterwards to get some of the money back.

If you like those, when you can have chips try the quest protein ranch chips. Not the same of course, but I love cool rancH Doritos and the quest chips are a good substitute.

Pre Op Hoops to go through
ShoppGirl replied to Destinymac's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I met my surgeon for the first time at my first appointment but seen the nurse practitioner from then on until my pre op appointment where I seen the surgeon again. I think it varies drastically From one clinic to the next what they require and in what order. I only had to do the required supervised weight loss appointments for insurance, a nutritionist visit, a psych evaluation and pre op labs. Those were all the requirements. Some programs and insurances require more. Some people are required to do some heart tests to make sure they are okay for surgery and some doctors require a COVID test. -
Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
ShoppGirl replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am glad you have an appointment. Only you will know if the surgery is best for you and that seems like a great place to explore your feelings. Also, even if you decide not to do the surgery and to do it through diet and exercise, working on any disordered eating you maY have (if you do have any) will help you with that too. The bariatric therapist and nutritionist are two key components along with surgery for success so I’m sure they will be very helpful if you choose to do it on your own as well. And if you choose to have the surgery in the future you will be ahead of the game. -
Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
ShoppGirl replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Do you feel like this is something that you still want to do? If so, maybe a bariatric therapist can help with the anxiety. They should have statistics on how often (how infrequent) these things happen that you are afraid of. They can also tell you the statistics of things that happen because of obesity without surgery. Plus if they are prescribing dr maybe they can give you something that you can take the night before and morning of surgery to calm you down. Of course you have to make sure the surgeon is okay with you taking it but my guess is that they will take your anxiety more seriously now. -

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Stories
ShoppGirl replied to sterrill36's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me it was quite uneventful. I went in at like 6:00 am and left the next evening before dinner. I don’t think my dr used the air in my stomach because I had no gas pain and no real pain otherwise. I felt like I did about 1000 crunches is all I had to use the bed rails to pull myself up from lying down. -
Any adverse effect to drinking water every 5 mins instead of 15?
ShoppGirl replied to Pete-TheTimeIsNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn’t think so because I wasn’t even given a time guideline. Just told to take small sips frequently and now I drink pretty much normally at 8 months out. -
Right side pain
ShoppGirl replied to Lifestyle Changer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of people with side pain but I would have suggested calling dr too. Hope you hear back from them soon. -
The surgery affects your ability to absorb some medications but mostly extended release ones. The pain medication they give you post surgery varies from dr to dr. Some people are on a morphine pump while others have claimed all they could get was Tylenol. I woke up already on pain meds but asked them to taper them down and only Needed Tylenol. I wasn’t in much pain. I don’t think my dr used the air because I didn’t have gas pains at all. I just felt like I did about 1000 crunches.

I agree. Just start sharing. I don’t have many tricks in my bag thus far.

Nearing Goal, how to improve weight loss?
ShoppGirl replied to dal101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried the chewables that are not gummies. Bariatric advantage makes a good one. I switched to capsule cause it’s cheaper but they did not upset my stomach at all and Your nutritionist or clinic may have samples. My nutritionist game me samples of the multivitamin and the vitamin C chews which are quite tasty (like candy). -
accidental post.

I am 8 months out and have eaten or sampled everything I used to eat. Including pizza and pasta and bread, chocolate etc. I just had a small portion because I wanted to know if I could tolerate them and now I will not have again until maintenance. What cat woman says is true though, because hunger hormones eventually come back and it gets harder to lose so best to limit the off plan foods as much as possible until maintenance.
-
You just have to give yourself grace and keep trying. We all know it’s not easy but the good news is two weeks did not stretch out your sleeve. Your tool will still work, you just have to stick to your plan and let it work for you.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
ShoppGirl replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had to do nothing after midnight (not even water) but then three hours before surgery I had to drink 12oz of gatorade. That had to do with nausea too. -
Try adding unflavored protein powder to your soup. Every little bit helps.
-
You may be one of the people that has to take vitamins with something in your belly. I take mine in morning after my protein shake some people need actual food though.
