Waiting for a surgery date
ShoppGirl replied to FarfelDiego's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It shouldn’t take long. They may have to get approval from insurance first (if that applies) but they should give you a date as soon as they get that. When the date is will vary based on how busy your surgeon is. -
My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22
ShoppGirl replied to jaymecaye's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wouldn’t pay it unless your contract states that you will be responsible for additional or unforeseen charges (which it very well may if you read it carefully). Regardless, I would try to set up an arrangement to make payments because it’s interest free. -
I agree with others. The sleeve is just a tool. If you eat bad you will gain it back. I just lost my grandma and within three weeks of eating slightly bad I gained FOUR pounds that I have to lose again. That’s how easy it would be to gain it over a pound a week and I wasn’t even eating As much as my always been skinny family members. Not trying to be negative just saying that the sleeve doesn’t do all the work for you. It is very easy to choose to eat around it. That being said, it is much easier to make the healthy choice while the hunger hormone is gone (that is fine for MOST people but not all immediately post op for several months). So me for example in the past would’ve thrown up my hands and kept on gaining until I gained it all back but this time I have nipped it in the bud at four pounds and I am working on losing them again plus the 9 more pounds I have to lose to reach goal.

How to tell if something doesn't agree with me?
ShoppGirl replied to spaceallthetime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You may not have any food that don’t agree with you. I didn’t. I can eat everything I ate prior to surgery without issues. If you don’t have any pain or discomfort and you are following your plan then you are tolerating it fine.the weird noises are probably just your body digesting. I get them ALOT more than I did pre surgery too. And not all sleevers dump either. I am 11 months out and have had candy bar and still haven’t. -
Food Before and After Photos
ShoppGirl replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have never heard of breakfast nachos. Breakfast burritos yes but not nachos. Good idea to change it up. -
RYGB- Limb Lengthening
ShoppGirl replied to Toshab's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have never heard of that procedure but I think with all the surgeries that rate of weight loss is very individual. I had sleeve and I was a slower loser. I have heard people who continue to lose for quite some time (like two years out) though so if you stick to the plan the weight should come off even if slower than you hope. -
How long after RNY can you stop reflux meds?
ShoppGirl replied to mrsjo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If the prescribe them to sleeve patients too not everyone does this. I didn’t have to take them post surgery even for a short time. They always ask about reflux at post ops but I haven’t had any issues. -
February 2022 Surgery Buddies
ShoppGirl replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No but they put a patch behind my ear before the procedure for nausea. I’m sure it’s the similar idea to try and get ahead of it. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!

Many of us feel this way. It’s called body dysmorphia. It helps some people to take a photo and look at pre op photos and current ones side by side. -
Is Breakfast The Most Important Meal of the Day?
ShoppGirl replied to GradyCat's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Lizonaplane is not the first person who has mentioned that on here. Worth looking into. -
Over 2 mo po and stalled
ShoppGirl replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is a long stall but I have seen others on here that have had them. If you are measuring and logging everything it can’t hurt to check in with your nutritionist and see if they can see something you are missing but if you are following plan the stall will break and most likely when it does you will drop a few pounds right away. -
Pre op stuff and what did you feel like when you woke up from your bypass surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sore in your stomach? no, I had a nerve block in my stomach which they say is sort of like an epidural I didn’t know I was getting it so it was a little odd when I woke up and couldn’t sit up Can you feel your stomach and intestines? I couldn’t feel anything, the nerve block was pretty good I think Is there a burning sensation? not for me Are you zoned out on pain killers or you can go without them just fine? i woke up on pain medication but slowly reduced it down to just Tylenol because the pain wasn’t bad Do you get gas pain right away? I never did get gas pain and assumed that they didn’t use the gas on me but I asked at my follow up and they did. Not everyone gets gas pains they said Is it hard to move around? yes, because of the nerve block it felt like I did about 1000 sit ups. I had to use the bed rails to pull myself up to a sitting position. It wasn’t painful just numb (for lack of better word). I was supposed to stay two nights but had such an uneventful recovery I went home the next day. Same thing at home. I was able to drink water and walk around okay. I did get a bit dehydrated (I guess I wasn’t sipping as much as I thought because of such tiny sips) and they sent me to get fluids as an outpatient. I probably could have waited it out now that I know that the sipping got easier and easier for a little bigger sips but I was afraid and I called when my urine was dark. Better safe than sorry though. I never did get nausea or dizzy or any of that because I was proactive. -
Congratulations. 🍾

I think you said you were hoping to be below 45 so 41.7 yay. That is awesome.

Birth control and gastric bypass
ShoppGirl replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I know the men may hate me for this but there is always the option of a vasectomy if it’s a long term choice to not have children. Obviously this wouldn’t be a solution for the OP for just dating but for those who are married reading this, the absorption and weight gain concerns are real and it may be time for the men to step up. At least it’s worth considering. -
The drs office with Nutritionist and PA VS THERAPIST CONFLICTS
ShoppGirl replied to berryboo97's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. The PA and the nutritionists would be the experts in this case and they agree. I would disregard the other advice and it couldn’t hurt to let they all know that they are offering conflicting advice. -
February 2022 Surgery Buddies
ShoppGirl replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A very small number of people do have actual hunger pains immediately post surgery but it is more likely to be head hunger. One way to distinguish is that head hunger you usually crave something specific- usually something that’s not the best choice for you while actual hunger even the healthiest (not favorite) choices sound good. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!

Well your gonna be there in no time. Great progress. Congrats. 🎉 -
Usually the doctors go by an equation that is 60-70% of your excess weight to get the amount that they predict (based on previous patients statistics) that you will lose. But the previous patients had some below and some above that percentage just as future patients will be. You could be one to ignore the plan and do your own thing so you don’t lose as much or stick to it 100% with higher chances to lose even more. I still never figured out what number they use as the starting weight for that formula so I really don’t know where I stand compared to that equation but I am almost to a normal BMI (the upper limits) and have seen many on here who reach the lower limits of their normal BMI which has to be a lot more than that equation would predict. Whether you lose all of your excess weight or not, most people see improvements in comorbidities just by getting out of the obese weight range so your surgery could still be successful in improving your health even if you don’t lose All of your weight. If you are like me, i couldn’t have lost 60 pounds and kept it off on any diet.

I think others Have it covered but I’m chiming in anyways because I look forward to following your comments while you get back on track. Great suggestion gradycat.

Neither the surgeon nor the nutritionist even mentioned calories in the beginning. Just amounts of food. Every teams plan is a little different in regard to the amounts you should be eating at each stage. It’s best to just stick to your plan.

Determining Goal Weight
ShoppGirl replied to suzannethemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t Agree it is a good measure either but I think your doctor is going to want your weight at follow up appointments because it is unfortunately the only measure we have and it is how they measure whether the surgery was a success or not. For the statistics that they gather post surgery. If they want it you can always step on the scale and not look though if you don’t want to know. -
I have heard of plenty of people who had to do those tests. Just part of the process.

Crying over granola
ShoppGirl replied to suzannethemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea. The idea of saying goodbye to food is an emotional one but you really aren’t saying goodbye forever just see ya later for a little while. I am able to eat small amounts of everything I was able to eat pre surgery. I just tried those things once for peace of mind. Now I know that once I get to maintenance I will be able to have them in moderation again. -
If you use the exercise app it will automatically consider it exercise no matter how fast you go but for it to just record it on its own as exercise you have tO walk faster. You may find if you have to park far out from a destination and your in a hurry that you will get a random minute or two recorded for example. I don’t know if it just goes by how fast your steps are or if it uses heart rate??
