    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Congratulations on your loss so far. Hopefully your goodwill is set up better than mine with jeans. At Mine they are in no order whatsoever and they are so crammed on the rack it’s near impossible to sort through. I spent two hours trying to go through and still went home empty handed. If yours is bad too you could also try tjmaxx if you have one for jeans. I found some off brand jeans there for 20 bucks and even the Michael Kors jeans I found were $25 and they weren’t even on clearance. Its doesn’t compete with goodwill deals of course but I was surprised at the reasonable prices.

    Awesome. Congratulations.

    I’m in the ER

Well the timing sure sucks but if it is kidney stones at least that is something fairly easy to treat and it’s not something that will require another surgery. Hang in there.
  4. I live in a small town so I have to order a lot of things like that to try and hate to do it as well because of the quantities I have to waste if I don’t like it is money down the drain. I finally had to just change my mindset to one that this is something that is for my health because I would try a prescription and not worry about possibly losing money. Good nutritious food is almost the same as medicine for us. I also donate what I don’t use so I don’t feel like I am wasting food. The shakes I took in to the surgery center and asked them if they could give them to someone who could use them.

    Best broth?

I found that the ramen noodle packets made a more flavorful broth. I just tossed the noodles and used the flavor packets.

    Side affects from protein shakes?

Post op you will probably do a lot of those. Everything else except the premier protein clear fruit punch flavor was way too sweet to me post of (I don’t like peach but assume it’s sweetened with same product). Then eventually I found their caffe latte shake. It’s not too sweet either. It has caffeine in it though.

    Sugar cravings?

Hersheys makes zero sugar chocolate if you are the type that will be satisfied with just a small amount (Walmart) Or also quest makes candy bites that are expensive but they satisfy chocolate craving and they have protein in them at least (target and Amazon).
  9. Congratulations on your surgery date. I tolerated the premiere protein clear protein drinks best post surgery. I didn’t love them but they went down easier than everything else. I later discovered the premier protein caffe latte and I actually enjoy them to this day I have one at almost a year out every morning. They have caffeine in them though so beware of that until you are cleared for it.

    Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

Do you make your own smoothies? I have with Greek yogurt but not protein powder? Do you think a full scoop of protein would dissolve okay in 12oz smoothie or would it need to be half scoop?? I have a feeling I will be one of the firsts to order protein powder in the kids size. Lol

    Laxatives

I had to use milk of magnesia at first but then I just added soluble fiber to my morning drink each day and I was regular. After I got a ways out I began to decrease the fiber until I don’t need that either because I get enough fiber from food.

    Post op day 4 complications

So sorry you are going through this. Glad you are in a good place with a great team to get you through it all.
  13. I would assume it was my body needing salt. Have you tried to sayisfy the craving with a healthier alternative like a handful of salted nuts maybe?
  14. If you make them at home just watch the tiny seeds in strawberries. Depending on what stage you are in those may not be allowed.

    New to Site: April 20th

Hello and welcome. Premiere protein shakes are what my surgeon recommended but they are all different in terms of what shakes they want you on (best advice is stick to your clinics plan). Many people have to do broth on their pre op diet. I was fortunate mine wasn’t all liquid (again stick to your teams plan). My significant other was very on board. I was thin when I met him though so he could see the difference in how my weight slowed me down physically as well as emotionally over the years as I gained it and didn’t have the fears that some partners get that I would get thin and act different or leave him cause I loved him when I was thin before and he knew what to expect. I am glad your significant others is starting to be supportive. Perhaps take them along to doctors appointments and support group meetings and they will get more on the same page. Congratulations on starting this life changing journey

What do you do when you get sick?

I am 11 months out and just had the stomach flu and it was very interesting because my husband and I experienced the same bug (he gave it to me) differently. He vomited a lot for two days and had some occasional diarrhea. I vomited one time first thing in that morning when it started and that was it. But I had diarrhea the rest of the time non stop. I wondered if it had to do with our stomachs being different post sleeve. I will say that vomiting was a lot less unpleasant post surgery though for sure. Also, I was able to eat a few saltines at 11 months out and they sat fine which was good because that and broth were what I ate for a day. Ooh and I was able to get by without any gingeraile. I had to stay close to a toilet anyways so I just chilled and watched Netflix all day and the nausea wasn’t too bad. It was worse when you moved around ALOT.

    Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

I live in a small town and it’s the only smoothie place I know of anywhere near me. I have been going over and over their nutritional data and menu and I think I found one that will be okay. First off they make their smoothies with turbanado sugar unless you request to substitute splenda which helps a lot. Second, they use juice from concentrate for some of their fruits but not all so choosing the right fruits is key. Third, they have the kids smoothies which is 12oz so of course that cuts everything in half. The jetty junior With Splenda Is 80 calories, 20g carbs and 12g sugar. I am pretty sure it’s just fresh strawberry, fresh banana and Splenda. Although they must add something to make it blend. Idk maybe just ice or water?? Something. I will watch them closely as they make it for sure.
  19. I found the books and online resources of Dr. Matthew Wiener to be helpful.

    Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

They have a salad that is supposedly only 350 calories. I find it hard to believe though because it has grilled chicken breast, bacon and a salsa ranch dressing. I mean I guess it could be a lite dressing and they could be skimpy with the chicken and bacon but I bet they don’t really make it that way when you get there. I would probably leave off the bacon either way because I can live without it but does their dressing come pre portioned? If not I know I have to get that on the side too. do they really toss the pulp in smoothies? I thought that was just when juicing?? I think I have decided that if I go with a smoothie it will be the childrens 12 ounce one

    Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

I was looking at the kids smoothies too. The 12 oz Jetty junior with Splenda doesn’t look bad. It’s 80 calories 20g carbs 12g sugar. I am trying to find something to have as a treat on occasion that isn’t too bad. I think that will do. If I’m reading this correctly it’s less than an apple. I need to print it out though and be sure because I’m reading it on my phone
  22. Well the surgeon may feel it is important to not set you up to fail as well. Seems like a good surgeon to me. The insurance company is looking for an excuse to not spend money but the surgeon loses money if he doesn’t do the surgery and he still wants to make sure you don’t have an undiagnosed issues that would lead you to fail if not treated beforehand.

    Post op confidence

Good for you. I am post op and I still lack the confidence to do things like eating out alone and could never imagine doing a trip alone at this point in my life. I keep saying I am going to eat out or go to the movies by myself just to prove to myself that I can. It’s weird because I enjoy my own company at home so it’s not that I am not content alone. I just worry about what others think of me which makes it entirely a confidence issue. I am so glad that you have achieved these non scale victories.
