Activities 6-8 weeks post VSG
ShoppGirl replied to kthorn1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By that far out you should be able to do pretty much whatever you could handle physically before the surgery. -
Painful gas after surgery
ShoppGirl replied to Vivis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people say gas ex helps a little but others say that it doesn’t touch it. Most people agree that walking is the only thing that really helps. -
I am over a year out now but I was the same way as you. Worried the whole time because I never had any issues with food. I just measured everything and stopped when I ate however much I was supposed to at that stage.

How to survive company workshops?
ShoppGirl replied to Danijela's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can always just say you had stomach surgery but not what kind. And if they insist on knowing which surgery and you don’t want to tell them I believe it is the hiatal hernia surgery that is very similar to WLS post op in terms of pain and diet. Double check that though. -
Ooh there are several recipes and some do not have egg. Mine didn’t. https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/

Trying to eat more veggies- 3 months post op
ShoppGirl replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can’t tell you many ideas on how to disguise the taste of them aside from using dressings or dips Which was already mentioned but I can tell you that early out I could not get enough in by just eating them after I ate my protein. I ended up eating veggies as my snacks for the first several months. -
That’s great I think. I mean it went down. I really don’t know what the range is for normal. Mine always has been so I don’t pay much attention to it.

45 day post op /day 2 Phase 4 -still not hungry -taste is off
ShoppGirl replied to ErikaF's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have found that I don’t really like chicken as much post surgery but I like fish more which I previously had to force myself to eat. So maybe try expanding your menu to things you didn’t like pre op and see if you enjoy them. -
You’ve been around here for a while but just in case have you heard of the ricotta bake. I lived off of that while on purée phase. If you like lasagna you will like the ricotta bake.
-
Glad to hear it went well for you. Just remember to try new things one at a time so if you have an issue you know what it was.

Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for water
ShoppGirl replied to Tashrenee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be able to drink a little more at a time as time goes by. Not EVERYONE can but most people eventually get back to a normal pace from what I have heard on here. I drink the same as I did pre op now. I can’t guzzle but I can drink my whole protein shake within a pretty short time in the morning. -

Did you know that when you go to Publix and they have things that they have packaged you can just go to the counter and ask for them to repack it in a smaller quantity. I just learned this. Not sure if you have a Publix or a store that may be similar but I know that I will save a ton using this option because I always waste when it’s packaged for a family or four or even two since my husband and I usually don’t eat the same things or I eat more than I should trying not to waste things. Both not good options. I especially love it that I can go to the bakery for special occasions and get just one treat because if I have three or four at home let’s face it I’m gonna eat them eventually. Anyways I’m not sure how many of their premade options fit into your calorie budget but if anything does you can buy just one serving. -

64 ounces is a half gallon so you can also fill up a juice or milk container each day and just pour your water from that all day. I drank bottled water and I knew exactly how many bottles I should have before lunch and after lunch which made it seem less daunting but it’s really whatever works for you. Tracking it on a little notepad on fridge or one of the apps on your phone seems like it would work too. Soon you will be finishing whole bottles within a more normal time so it gets easier to track. -
Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
ShoppGirl replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately that super fast loss only happens in the beginning and it slows down for everyone. The last few pounds From goal are the worst. In theory you can speed it up some by exercising more but it still may not be as fast as what you are looking for. -
Mental inability to drink
ShoppGirl replied to Stephanie H.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven’t heard of anyone yet that actually had a leak. I’m so sorry that you did. What does your doctor say about your issue drinking? Does he act like that’s typical? Did he offer any suggestions?? I know that in the beginning for me eating seemed like a chore and I sorta complained about it but now at a year out with the hunger hormone back I wish I felt that way again but I guess it’s a little different when drinking becomes a chore. The only advice I can really offer is that if you start to see signs of dehydration contact your doctor and ask for them to arrange for you to get fluids sooner rather than later. My doctor arranged for me to get fluids as an outpatient which I didn’t know was possible. I was so worried about having to go back into the hospital but you don’t have to do that they just bring you in and you sit in a recliner and watch tv for a little while hooked up to the IV. No big deal and I felt so much better afterwards. -
9 days out, 8 oz of soup?
ShoppGirl replied to jademanke@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to eat/drink more at every given stage. Now at a year out I can eat a single serving of most things without any discomfort (in fact I could probably eat more if I pushed it). But I don’t and that’s the key. Most likely you will feel the restriction when you get to more solid foods but not all of us do. IF you don’t, though, the process still works you just have to measure your food and learn to stop without feeling full. After a few minutes you realize that you were satisfied you just don’t feel that full to the brim feeling we are used to waiting for. -
Did Anyone Pre-Med The Day of Surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your doctor is just worried about the informed consent perhaps you can sign that and then take something. Although at that point you may as well just wait on whatever the anesthesiologist will give you. Either way I would get the okay because it could interfere with your anesthesia. -
Are you sure it’s moist enough and chewed well enough?? I eat very small portions of meat (as in smaller than my typical portion of other things) but I wouldn't say it sits heavy. For many of us meat is too dry early out though and it goes down better with a bit of gravy or sauce.

Worst Vitamins so far
ShoppGirl replied to liveaboard15's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take those as well. I did take the chewables immediately post op but it was actually just because they were first on the list my dr reccomended because I was able to swallow pills just fine. They have only upset my stomach once and it was because I took it first thing in morning after just a couple sips of my protein shake. Now I take it towards the end of the shake and I am always fine. -

It might be less a restocking fee or shipping fees but you should be able to get your money back. I don’t know how expensive those are but it may be worth sending them back. -
Considering surgery but don't know where to start
ShoppGirl replied to colebaby216's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you go to that pound of cure weight loss.com site arabesque mentioned of Dr. Wieners you can view some of his videos. He has tons elsewhere but the one that would most benefit you right now is where you can view it. It’s “which weight loss surgery is right for me” and to get there just click on the menu at the top right then surgery and which surgery is right for me and the video pops up. I found all of his videos incredibly helpful. There is also information thete on self pay options.
