  1. I found the books and online resources of Dr. Matthew Wiener to be helpful.

    Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

They have a salad that is supposedly only 350 calories. I find it hard to believe though because it has grilled chicken breast, bacon and a salsa ranch dressing. I mean I guess it could be a lite dressing and they could be skimpy with the chicken and bacon but I bet they don’t really make it that way when you get there. I would probably leave off the bacon either way because I can live without it but does their dressing come pre portioned? If not I know I have to get that on the side too. do they really toss the pulp in smoothies? I thought that was just when juicing?? I think I have decided that if I go with a smoothie it will be the childrens 12 ounce one

    Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

I was looking at the kids smoothies too. The 12 oz Jetty junior with Splenda doesn’t look bad. It’s 80 calories 20g carbs 12g sugar. I am trying to find something to have as a treat on occasion that isn’t too bad. I think that will do. If I’m reading this correctly it’s less than an apple. I need to print it out though and be sure because I’m reading it on my phone
  4. Well the surgeon may feel it is important to not set you up to fail as well. Seems like a good surgeon to me. The insurance company is looking for an excuse to not spend money but the surgeon loses money if he doesn’t do the surgery and he still wants to make sure you don’t have an undiagnosed issues that would lead you to fail if not treated beforehand.

    Post op confidence

Good for you. I am post op and I still lack the confidence to do things like eating out alone and could never imagine doing a trip alone at this point in my life. I keep saying I am going to eat out or go to the movies by myself just to prove to myself that I can. It’s weird because I enjoy my own company at home so it’s not that I am not content alone. I just worry about what others think of me which makes it entirely a confidence issue. I am so glad that you have achieved these non scale victories.

Well I can’t say I know what you are going through but I sure am glad you are posting here so that you know that you are not going through it alone. Hopefully the dr is Right And you don’t have to go back. Keep us posted.

    Low BMI pre op question

I agree. If insurance would have covered or if I could have afforded it at 30 BMI I would have done it then because I know that I tried every way to do it on my own and couldn’t keep it off. Only you know if you have REALLY tried to lose it the old fashioned way and you say you have. If nothing changes then you are just destined to become morbidly obese eventually. One thing I wish I had realized pre surgery is how much of this is mental though. I think if I knew then what I know now I would have went to counseling first to deal with some disordered eating I didn’t realize I have (I struggle with emotional and boredom eating) but then I would still have the surgery.
  9. I only tried it with pudding because I bought it pre surgery and didn’t really need it because I found the premiere protein fruit punch tolerable and then I found the caffe latte which has caffeine but if you are allowed that and like coffee it is much less sweet than most protein shakes. I still drink one a day at 11 months out.
  10. Have you tried the clear protein drinks? Or unflavored protein you can mix in various things.

Am I eating to much ?

We all lose at different rates. What does your doctor say about your rate of loss? If you truly are sticking to your plan you may be experiencing a stall which can last several weeks. There is nothing to do or change, the stall will pass.
  12. I am so sorry that they are doing this but to wait till now to express their feelings almost seems calculated and manipulative. I hope that you choose you and do choose to continue this journey to good health. You deserve this and you have plenty of people here to root you on and support you throughout the process. Good luck tomorrow.

    Recovery & house sitting

I could have done that in a couple days but peoples recovery is allover the map. As long as you don’t have to lift anything and the dogs won’t jump on you I would say as soon as you are off pain meds so you can drive.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I doubt they would cancel you. They would most likely just have to rearrange their schedule a bit to accommodate the extra time it takes to do a bypass. As in you would just possibly go at another time of day.

    5'6" 217lbs getting sleeve surgery

I am 5’8” and was 235 when I started my journey. I can’t even remember my weight in high school or college because it was just NEVER A concern of mine until my late twenties when the symptoms of bipolar began. Between depression and the medication for the illness I just gained and gained. Dieting and regaining over and over until I finally got the sleeve. Now at 11 months out I am just above the “normal” range of BMI. I have to accept that on these meds I will never be a size one or even a three again but I am still very happy with my decision to do the sleeve. I have to admit that all I have been doing in terms of exercise is walking so with more exercise I would definitely be a normal BMI by now I’m sure.

    Would I qualify?

Being able to lose weight shouldn’t hold you back. Many of us have lost significant amounts of weight several times throughout the years but couldn’t keep it off. As for gaining a bunch of weight quickly I doubt that would matter. Some companies I have heard on here do require a weight history for several years but I don’t think many do. Many companies require you to do a six month long physician monitored diet where you have to get weighed once a month before they submit to insurance for approval.

    Would I qualify?

Most likely you would have to pay out of pocket but some surgeons will do the surgery with a BMI of 30. it’s usually the insurance company that dictates the 35 BMI minimum and that’s with at least one comorbidity for most companies. One thing that may help though is if you haven’t measured yourself in a while to do so. You may be shorter than you think and your BMI a little higher. I was.

What to add to meat to increase moisture?

If you add the ranch dressing seasoning to Greek yogurt it makes a really good ranch dipping sauce too you could dip meat in that to add moisture.
  19. Well for what it’s worth I got to 9 pounds from my goal without any exercise other than walking just by measuring my food so it can be done. I need to add exercise to get all the way there I think. At the same time when I lost a family member recently and went off plan it was super easy to gain some too. I think because I could eat so much when I wasn’t measuring.
  20. I didn’t feel restriction until I got to regular food and even then I could eat more than I was expected to if I wanted. I still have to measure my food or I could easily overeat. According to my doctor this is rare though. You should be able to feel restriction with recommended portions around when you get to regular food.

    Smoothie king

I have never been there. I tried looking online at a menu and it doesn’t have the nutrition information. But it says they use individually quick frozen fruit and veggies that are In their own juices and they use chobani Greek yogurt. Seems like if you don’t get one with added sugars it would be okay and one with added protein I don’t see how you could go wrong. I am going to inspect the macros on the menu and watch closely as they make it for sure but I am going to check it out.

    Transportation

I am glad you have a plan for your transportation now and that you are not letting your family stop you from continuing with this life altering journey. Hopefully they will come around in time.
  23. Have you tried the clear protein drinks or mixing the unflavored protein In other things?

    caught covid

Fingers crossed that it comes back negative and you don’t have to change anything but at least if you do it’s just the testing part which is probably with office staff and not the dr so the appointments should be easier to get.
  25. That stage was pretty boring. I ate ALOT of the ricotta bake and refried beans as well as mashed potatoes (which are not allowed on some surgeons plans but were on mine). Luckily it doesn’t last too long. Technically you can have pretty much whatever you want as long as you puree it but that thought grossed me out personally.
