    Pain after surgery

I didn’t have any gas pain but have been reading about it quite a bit for over a year because most people do and it’s probably the biggest complaint post surgery. Some people say gas ex helps a little but most agree that walking is the only real solution. I know people say that pain medication doesn’t help it anyways.

    Numbness and tingling

I would definitely contact my team about this one.
  4. I didn’t have any gas pain but a lot of people on here mention they were prescribed gas. My surgeon said walking is the best way to alleviate gas pain.
  5. Ooh I misread what you were saying. Yea some people have a harder time early out getting more than a few bites in. Eventually most of us end up closer to a normal serving size (of course that’s just an average). If you feel like you are not getting in enough calories you can always supplement with broth or shakes until you can get more in.

    sinusitis or covid

Sorry to hear that. Glad you got it checked out. Feel better soon.

    Leg soreness?

I would just get it checked to be on the safe side. Always better safe than sorry. Plus you will be able to just put that out of your mind. One less thing to worry about.
  8. Pickle salad was just lettuce with cut up pickles. They were just two foods that I was allowed unlimited and who wants to eat just lettuce so I cut up pickles and told myself I could have as much pickle salad as I wanted. When I was on that diet for a week I had steak and grilled onion almost every night. My husband makes really good steak and caramelizes onions on the grill and I figured I would not be able to have steak for quite a while so I ate it till I was sick of it. You can also have chicken and other non starchy veggies.

    SO FLIPPING COLD!

Ooh. Just a thought. You know what always makes me feel super hot is those compression undershirts. Maybe those would help you feel warmer.

    SO FLIPPING COLD!

My husband is cold all the time too and he always wears two pairs of socks, even in summer. He says if his feet are warm he doesn’t feel quite as cold. I have the opposite problem. I am always hot. I am not sure which would be a worse problem to have, you can only take so many clothes off you know. Lol.
  11. I agree that six weeks would be very hard to sustain if it is all liquid or very strict. Mine was not super strict. I was allowed egg whites and meat as well as low starch veggies plus yogurt and sugar free popsicles or jello. I was also allowed free foods like lettuce and pickles. There were a few other free foods but I can only remember making a lot of pickle salads. lol. Those foods were limited quantities too so I was hungry for those pickle salads. You may be able to handle doing something like that for 6 weeks if you wanted to?? It’s basically just low carb which most of have done but with stricter portion sizes than I had ever done.
  12. I was able to eat more than expected at every given stage. I never felt full unless I ate a lot more than my plan prescribed. I had to measure out how much I was expected to eat and just stop there. It took a while to get used to that but eventually I realized i would feel satisfied after a few minutes.

    Help with nausea?

Do you have any other signs of dehydration such as dark urine? If so, getting IV fluids may help with the nausea quite a bit. I thought this was going to be a big deal and I would wind up back in the hospital but when I spoke to my team they arranged for me to get fluids as an out patient It was no big deal at all and I felt tons better afterwards.

    Is this normal/right?

I know it seems like it would be a standard easy answer but the rule of thumb is to ask your team because so many places have so many different plans. I would try to work out the protein for the soups and see if you are close to your teams goal (your yogurt should have quite a bit too, especially if it’s Greek yogurt). If not and you don’t want to do protein shakes you could always add plain protein powder to your soups. I haven’t done it but I have read on here that there is a trick to it. The soup can’t be too hot when you mix it in I think.
  15. Good for you. I would have considered no gain a huge win and losing a little is just a bonus.
  16. That makes a lot of sense.
  17. Well at least you have a plan. Lol

    Ball of nerves

Yes there is a whole forum for revision surgeries and sleeve to bypass seems to be mentioned on here quite often because of GERD. It’s a pretty common procedure.
  19. Wow. That sucks. It’s sad that any insurance wouldn’t cover it and there are so many hoops with the ones that do.

    Thinking of backing out

Short term post op some people experience mood swings and depression and/ or anxiety due to the hormones being out of whack from major surgery and the accelerated weight loss. But long term I think if people have issues it’s more because of meds not working as well. My dr suggested sleeve over bypass because of the medicine absorption issue that is possible with bypass but far less common with sleeve. I just kept reminding myself that LESS absorption did not mean NO absorption so maybe I would have to take a higher milligram of certain meds to get the right amount to absorb but they should still work. Or maybe I would have to try another medication but there are so many out there that something should work. There are some meds such as extended release meds that tend to cause The most issues for people. Some people are fine with them but others have to take the immediate release version twice a day. So my takeaway was Basically as long as you work closely with your doctor they should be able to make adjustments to your medication to find something that can work for you. I had one medication that you have to eat 350 calories at the time you take it so I had to switch to another Medication but other than that I have not had any issues with medications post sleeve. I have bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder and I totally get what you are saying. I was a little bit nervous the whole time but I just kept reminding myself that I went with the surgery the dr suggested and I am very compliant with my meds and responsible to go to the doctor and ask for help if I need it and there are so many meds out there that IF I had issues they would only be temporary.

Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay

They have the good drugs there so if you had hernia repair it’s probably better to be there anyways. I hear that is quite a bit more painful. Glad to hear you are on the other side and doing okay.
  22. I would just go see the surgeon and see what They say. For revision if it’s medically necessary your BMI shouldn’t matter. For instance if you haD sleeve and develop untreatable GERD they wouldn’t care what your BMI was to revise to bypass. I am not sure but band intolerance may make it medically necessary.

    Swimming post op

I believe it was around a month for me. But best to follow your surgeon.
  24. My team said medically I can but they strongly advise against it. This is because there is a correlation between soda and weight gain (even diet soda). It hasn’t been explained yet but the correlation still exists and shows up study after study.

    Food ideas

That looks delicious. Your photo reminded me of the “food before and after” thread where we can get some more ideas of what people are eating. I am more of a simple cook that likes five ingredients or less kind of recipes for everyday cooking. Anything with more than five ingredients is a special meal at our house, lol.
