4 Weeks Out - Eating is a chore

I wouldn’t say it comes roaring back. It’s more gradual but it does come back.
  2. Did they give you PPI’s? A lot of doctors just give them to you automatically but some you have to ask.
  3. It varies from surgeon to surgeon but many in US do it with 30 BMI.
  4. The lady that told me about WLS (a friend of my aunts and she introduced me sO she could share her experience) was self pay and her consult to surgery was pre COVID and it was two weeks exactly and that was cause of the pre op diet.
  5. It’s great that you had information to offer them not only from your own experience but From others as well. And really great that you had the courage to help reduce the stigma. It has taken me a lot of years to finally admit I have bipolar disorder because of stigma. Hopefully I will get to that same point a little sooner with WLS. So far I have only shared with people that I am really close to. I think once I am a few years out and haven’t gained it all back I will be more outspoken about it.

    Did I screw up lol

I’m sure it’s fine as long as you can tolorate the spice. I was fine with spice pretty early out but my team said to introduce it slowly.
  7. Many places will do it with a BMI of 30 for self pay. It seems like I have Even heard of someone’s insurance covering it at 30 with certain comorbidities but I would not swear to that. They have done tons of studies that show people with 30 BMI are actually more successful on average with weight loss and keeping it off.

    Shopping in Bariatric Pal Store

Have you found a lot of people who have used them and had good levels?
  9. Since you have already lost all that easier to lose water weight in your 22 pounds prior you may not lose as much as someone who just started with the liver shrink diet.
  10. Hummmm. Never heard of that. Seems like it may work better though. You got the best part of both surgeries.

    Shopping in Bariatric Pal Store

Pro care health sells theirs with or without iron. It’s a one a day multi as well. My team of course suggested I get the one with iron but they do have it without. They also have one with a lower amount of iron.

    Shopping in Bariatric Pal Store

I haven’t shopped In the bariatric pal store yet. Please let us know how it goes and what’s good if you do. The patches though I did ask my NP about them. She said she has yet to find any reputable research that shows that they do indeed work. She said that doesn’t mean they don’t of course but she hasn’t seen anything yet to prove that they do. Idk if that helps. Made me decide to give the capsules a fair shake first and they work fine for me.

4 Weeks Out - Eating is a chore

I agree with catwoman. Ride that wave as long as you can because when the hunger comes back it gets harder. Many people continue to lose after it comes back but it is not as easy.

    OMG the constipation is real

I’m in the states as well so I’m sure that brands I mention would be different there but whatever you do take, also ask your team if you should take something daily once it does pass to prevent it again. I took a soluable fiber every day.

    Need to vent

I agree that you handled those situations like a champ. You took steps to take as much control as humanly possible. As someone with anxiety I get what a stressful process this all is but as someone who is also over a year out now these obstacles will very soon be a distant memory but the new and improved healthier you will be still there. It will all be worth it when you start to realize all the little non scale victories. In fact, If you haven’t had a chance to check out the thread “weirdest non scale victories” I recommend that to everyone who is on the fence about WLS.

How long are you missing work?

I think the difference also depends on your responsibilities at home. Do you have kids? Are you someone who can let your house go a little and rest while you are at home?? Do you have someone at home that is willing to pick up the slack and take care of you for a while? If you can go to work but then come home and literally just rest and take care of yourself the rest of the night you will probably be able to return to work sooner than someone who has alot of things they have to do at home as well.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Is your shake too sweet. Post surgery I could not tolorate super sweet and I used the premier protein clear drinks. Also I later discovered the premiere protein caffe latte which has caffeine but if you are allowed that it wasn’t too sweet either. I actually love them and still have one for breakfast every day at over a year out.
  18. Beer may cause some issues because of the carbonation early out. Many doctors say no carbonation forever. But coffee I was asked if I wanted the the next morning in the hospital. Some doctors say no caffeine for a while because it can dehydrate you but if you are like me and are able to get all your fluids relatively quick it seems like your doctor will give you the okay for caffeine. As far as foods you love I am able to eat anything I did pre op without issues. Some people do have issues with certain things where they sit heavy and they just no longer crave them because of that but that seems to be breads, pasta and rice. Some people also develop allergies to things like Daisy but again that’s not everyone. I am fine with Daisy and carbs. I guess the short answer is that there may be a couple things that you no longer eat post surgery but i have yet to hear anyone say they regret the surgery because they can no longer eat something. I guess because if something causes you issues you develop a taste aversion of sorts so it’s not like your sitting there craving it and can’t have it. You really just don’t want it. That’s my understanding of it anyways.

Hydration and vitamin bar ? 🤔

I wouldn’t. My aunt did that and had some issues and was told it’s BECAUSE she wasn’t getting enough fluids with it. Now that she’s getting enough she swears by it that she feels better but immediately post op so many people struggle to get enough fluids that I would wait until drinking enough fluids at least and even still I would ask a doctor if it was really better than the multivitamin as to not waste my money. Another note. If anyone IS dehydrated post surgery. Don’t wait until it’s so bad you need to go to the ER. My doctor arranged from me to get an IV as an outpatient and it was no big deal. I was so worried about it and was so glad she arranged it for me. I felt so much better afterwards.
  20. I would ask the surgeon if they have a nausea Med that will work but if not maybe the neurologist would consider the other medication if you need it just for a week or so.

    I’m just going to ask!

I’m pretty certain I waited around a month. I’m sure you can figure out ways to make it’ less strenuous if you want to do it sooner but i am on meds that decrease my drive anyways so I was fine waiting.

    New to all of this

The liquid diet is not required by all surgeons. Some do a low carb and low sugar diet and some don’t require it at all. I had the low carb one and while it was the toughest part of the entire process I would say it wasn’t THAT bad. Not any worse than others diets I have been on in my life. I guess it was still the worse part though because I had very little pain and no issues post up. I was up walking around in recovery and drinking fine that same day in the hospital. I did not have ANY gas pains post surgery either. I asked the NP if they didn’t need it for me because I was lower BMI or something and she said they use it on everyone but it does not cause everyone pain. Something about having a space to get out I honestly am not sure but I do know not everyone has gas pains. From being on this site many people do, though. But if you ask about any regrets from surgery I doubt one person will say they have any based on the gas pains.
  23. That looks about the same as mine did. I think you are fine.

    Post-op tips/necessities

Yea we have an adjustable bed and don’t really use my side but was glad to have it post surgery. I had very little pain post op. Left hospital early taking only Tylenol but getting up and down from bed would have been a challenge without having the head of the bed adjusted up. For future readers that don’t have an adjustable bed the bed wedges mentioned earlier are a close second to this and have helped me in past surgeries.
  25. If you are on all liquids right now the post op diet is pretty much the same with the exception that some people can not drink a full shake right away. I was able to drink a full shake relatively quick after a couple days. And I could swallow pills the same day as my surgery. I did have one medication that literally requires to be taken with at least a 350 calorie meal to absorb properly and I had to ask my dr to switch me to another medication because that wouldn’t work out for a while post op. Maybe there is another medication that you can switch to temporarily IF you have issues. Which like I said I didn’t. I probably would’ve been able to take those a couple days post surgery with a shake. Possibly sooner with nausea meds??
