I have seen quite a few posts about people who are older asking the same question and there are definitely others out there. I did a quick search and found this thread.

Is this normal?
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooh I’m so glad to hear it helped. I didn’t have any trouble swallowing pills but I heard of so many people did that I was prepared with a pill crusher on hand just in case. I tried it pre op with one of mine that had a coating on it to see and yes it was VERY gross but it went down at least. Things will heal and you won’t have to do it for long. Every day it’s gets a little easier than the day before. -
That was how my soft foods stage looked as well. Some people may not tolerate the stem part of the asparagus well (not sure but that may be fibrous) but for my plan veggies were just as tolerated after soft foods. Fish was definitely on soft food though and I realized quickly that I like it alot more post surgery than I did before.

You can call the pharmacy and see if you can crush any of those pills. Some of them can’t be safely crushed though so be sure to ask. But If you say the pain is “bad bad” and “excruciating” I would go to the ER. Better safe than sorry. -
Yes it is normal for some to not feel hungry at all and there isn’t really anything you can do about it. As someone who is over a year out and the hunger hormones have returned though, I say enjoy it while it lasts. It will never be easier to lose weight than it is for you right now. Of course you have to be sure to take care of yourself and get in your requirements which isn’t much fun when you aren’t hungry but as the pounds continue to shed that should motivate you to keep up with the plan.

Yea you just have to stop when you feel satisfied if you don’t feel restriction like everyone else. It takes a while but you get used to no longer waiting for that full sensation.

Water Retention on Pre Op Liquid Diet
ShoppGirl replied to Sunshine Princess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The liver reducing diet is not really designed to make us lose weight anyways. Some people (especially those who were already on another diet) do not lose much at all and The doctors don’t seem concerned with that. The size of the liver is all that they care about in terms of a safe surgery which is the reason for that diet. -
The better you do on that diet the better off you will be in the long run. If your liver is much smaller and out of the way there is less to maneuver around which means less probing and bruising so less pain post op. That being said I have heard people on here who have messed up a little bit and as far as I know they were okay.

Is there anyone having surgery in July
ShoppGirl replied to Sheila S's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did not but I was a lower BMI to start and was worried I would lose Just enough to not qualify for surgery and then gain it all back like I always do. Many people do though. Anything you lose now is just less you have to lose later. Plus it is a good chance to start practicing what you will be doing post surgery. -
You can do this. It’s seriously a mind thing. I am over a year out and I have protein shakes as meal supplements on occasion. For breakfast I have one daily and it actually does fill me up till lunch or I wouldn’t do it. Are you allowed popsicles. Those and jello were what made me feel like I was getting something.

Feeling depressed after gaining weight :) looking for support
ShoppGirl replied to Gretchel Z's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second speaking to your nutritionist. I assume you will have to pay since it’s been a while but it should be worth it. I would log what you have been eating for a week or two first so she can tell you where to make changes. I do see people on here do it so it can be done. -
Pregnant 5 months after VSG surgery
ShoppGirl replied to LettyVSG's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I don’t have any advice to offer either but wanted to say congratulations. You already have the best team in place to help you make the best food choices for you and baby. Just be sure to stay in close contact with them and you should be fine. Best of luck to you. -
It’s really just a personal decision if there is not a glaring medical reason to choose one over the other. I am on medications and worried about absorption issues of bypass affecting them so I went with sleeve but I knew that I was possibly going to lose a few less pounds than I would with bypass. I think from my research the difference in weight loss between the two surgeries was only like 5-10% of excess weight which for me ended up being just a few pounds but I was lower BMI to start. If you eat a lot of sweets however the bypass could be even better for loss because you may dump on sugar which will help you stay away from them. But not everyone dumps from sugar so that’s not guaranteed.

Should I edit my goal weight.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for your replies. It took some time to figure it out again but I updated it to reflect my more realistic goal. I am still going to try to lose a little more and talk to my doctor about weight loss medications but I figure whatever else I lose I will just think of that as a bonus. -
Okay so I am over a year out now. I was warned by the nurse practitioner that statistically people with bipolar disorder do not always lose as much weight so I made My goal a little higher so I would not be dissapointed. My first goal was 180. Well I reached that and was still losing so I set it to 160. I got down to 169 rather quickly and I stayed there for months and then I started gaining. I gained to 179 and Now I have been stuck right around this weight for months. At this point I honestly don’t see myself getting back to 169, never mind 160. My hunger hormone is back and it will not allow me to reduce my calories anymore. I have decided that If I can actually maintain it, I think I can be happy at this weight. I am in normal sizes at least and only technically “overweight” by a little bit. I will not be happy if I gain anymore though. In a perfect world I would’ve gotten down to 160 and made another goal for 140 but on the meds I am on I guess that is just not possible. Anyways, whenever I look at the 160 it is depressing me. Should I just change it back to 180?? I know it is just a number but it is making me feel like a failure for not reaching my goal. Don’t laugh, I’m my mind it’s a big deal for some reason.

Hi. I am trying to update my goal weight which I need to do on my laptop. Well, somehow I got logged out and my password is not working. I tried to recover but the email still has not come after 30 minutes (I checked my junk folder). Is it because it’s past business hours? Or any technical issues going on?? Is there a phone number to contact web support?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Reset Password email never came.

Thank you. -
I actually think this is where my body is happy and with my meds it may be as low as I get without taking weight loss meds or doing another procedure. I wouldn’t do another procedure at this point but I am going to talk to my doctor about the meds. I am at 179 and I am 5’8” so I am a little above a “normal” BMI but I would be happy here if I knew I could maintain it. Any heavier and I will have to reassess.

Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
ShoppGirl replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It may be easiest to make sure you eat before they do if you set a strict schedule. I eat at six every night. Depending on what I am having and how long it takes I start cooking at different times. He doesn’t get hungry until later so I am full when he eats. That seriously helps a lot. It still looks good but I can live without it. Edited to add that I do sit down with him while he eats and we chat, I just don’t eat what he is having. i agree with suzannethemom though that it’s important to get that family time still. However you work it. -
Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
ShoppGirl replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It’s just my husband and I but we basically cook our own meals and he eats all the things I would love to eat. My best tip is to eat before you cook or they eat. If you aren’t starving it isn’t as hard to resist their food. -
keep postponing to start my preop liquid diet.
ShoppGirl replied to Walktoseetheroad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was the same way but it’s so unnecessary. You will eat your favorite foods again. Just in smaller portions. I am a little over a year out and I can eat anything I ate pre op. I have been able to for a while now. -

For me the liver Shrink diet was the hardest part. That’s because I had no real issues post op. It is pretty tough for most of us though for the first few days. Then, many say it gets easier. The better you shrink your liver the less maneuvering around it they have to do so that is less pain from bruising and stuff post op. You seriously do have this. Just pick a time and start. Ideally right now.
