You can ask your doctor for a note so that they have to reasonably accommodate you. Maybe he/she will have suggestions that worked for other patients.

That’s a good point too about the drinking. I am guessing the OP will have to take more breaks somehow. Maybe split it into two so it’s not AS bad. This will be less of an issue the further out you get when you can drink a glass of liquid in a reasonable amount of time.

I second the protein shake. Or maybe meat and cheese squares. Everyone worries about “grazing” but I’m not sure if it really is bad if you actually portion out a lunch or dinner and only eat that amount just over a longer period of time?? By definition it may be grazing but that doesn’t mean it is necessarily problematic?? It could be but I would ask my surgeon about this. Given your schedule it may be the only way you can get in enough protein.

During the pre op diet and the post op life do not compare your progress to others. Just stick to the plan your team lays out for you and trust the process. We are all here to cheer one another on but we are all so different that your journey will be unique to you.

Yea I hear it is really not fun. I sorta wish I had something like that to keep me in line.

Mine was longer for several months. I would definitely take as test if there is any sign of pregnancy though because you want to get with dr and nutritionist and make sure you are doing everything to get what baby needs asap.

I haven’t ever dumped (I had sleeve) but I do have a slider food which is chips/popcorn. I have never felt restriction kick in. It seems like I could eat a huge movie theatre bucket without feeling full although I’ve never tried.

Help! I need advice!
ShoppGirl replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like one of your your biggest fears is the food aspect. If that’s the case you may want to play that by ear because a lot of people post surgery do not care about food for a while so that part may not really be an issue. I would have mom pack a lunch and snacks in the beginning because you probably won’t want to have to cook though. If the 11 year old would stress you out otherwise having to entertain her or whatever then I’m afraid you may just have to be honest with your daughter. I’d like to think she would understand if you tell her just as you told us. That you love your grandkids but you feel like while you are recovering it will be too much stress and you can’t risk anything jeopardizing your success. I’m guessing those kids are one of the biggest reasons you are even doing this surgery in the first place and you want to be successful so that you are around for them. Maybe remind her of that. -
What to eat in the soft food stage?
ShoppGirl replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Looks like you guys have it mostly covered. The one thing by I will add is that pre op I only liked mahi on occasion and post op I love it. And now I like salmon too so even if you didn’t love fish pre op you may like it post op. -
Yea I guess you can do that and see what your levels are at your 3 month appointment. Some people say they don’t need vitamins aftet a year because they get them from food. I don’t know that I eat THAT great to get all the little micronutrients and stuff from food but just needing one vitamin maybe you can do it.

It really is. A lot of people on here have benefitted from seeing a bariatric therapist for similar issues. I just don’t have any near me. I am managing though it’s just not easy.

Weight loss/increase 2 weeks post-op?
ShoppGirl replied to Vivis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is just one of the many stalls that you will have. The first one is usually around three weeks. It is extremely common. If you search it on here you will see how many people experience it by How many results. -
The only problem is with that amount you may get low. I bet you could tolerate a lower dose of just iron another time of day though. Just gotta still work it out where you take it all two hours away from the calcium.

98% ready, then the 2% doubt starts creeping in....

My BMI was on the low end and my knees were only beginning to hurt and only with vigorous exercise so I was kinda like you. It wasn’t like I was unhealthy. but I knew that I was gaining weight year after year so it was only a matter of time before my knees hurt worse and limited my movement more making me gain even more weight and that would limit me even further. It was just beginning but it was going to snowball out of control. There were other reasons that I did it though, I was sitting out of things because I was embarrassed of my size or I didn’t have anything to wear that I felt good in and stuff like that and Despite all the crazy diets I tried i was only going to gain more. I am now over a year out and I had very little pain post op and no food intolerances or anything like that. I did not lose as much weight as I hoped. I reached my first goal which was an easy one but couldn’t reach the second. I am on meds that make weight loss a little more difficult. My point is that I did not get to my dream weight but I am still VERY glad that I did it because I am at least comfortable at this weight to go out and live my life again. -
I definitely eat out of boredom the most. I literally go to the fridge mindlessly and grab things. I sometimes get to the table with it and then get up and put it away cause I know I am not really hungry I just want something. It’s weird how some people do that but others like my husband actually dread having to eat. He thinks it’s a chore. For me I guess it’s almost fun (something to do).

Ooh that’s cool.

Weight loss/increase 2 weeks post-op?
ShoppGirl replied to Vivis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That small of an increase could be anything. Retaining water, full bowels, etc. Fluctuations of a up to a few pounds can even happen within a single day. I wouldn’t worry too much about that. And as for the few days without losing it’s possible that you hit your three week stall early. It’s so common that they have that name for it. It happens “around” the third week for most. If the little fluctuations are going to bother you you may be better to weigh yourself less often because stalls do happen and so do those small fluctuations. As long as the overall trend is down you will be fine. -
That describes many of us who get this surgery. Have you worked out whether you have any disordered eating? I still struggle with boredom and emotional eating and those things are tough. I can’t find a therapist that specializes in it in my area but if do have any issues it’s best to sort those out pre up.

Surgery midweek-eek and yay-big change at older age

Congratulations on your surgery date. Have you started your pre op diet yet? -
It sounds like you are similar to me. I didn’t eat a lot of junk food or anything. I just ate a lot, period. I have to admit now that the hunger hormones are back this has been a challenge with the sleeve because you technically can eat a small amount and then eat again on an hour if you want to. Thing is, now that I have lost the weight I am committed to staying this size and that somehow gives me the willpower to not just eat to eat like I used to. In the beginning it’s easier cause most of us lose the hunger hormone so you can lose the weight.
-
For me it would be two minutes. If that. My husband always says slow down NoOne is going to take you food. Lol
-
I never noticed. Although I still eat kinda fast. It doesn’t cause me any issues so As much as I try to eat slower, I don’t think I slowed down as mich as many of you.

Spouse Obsessed with Food

I was just thinking, their persistence to take you out could Have been out of lack of another plan. They knew they wanted to do SOMETHING for you for Mother’s Day and didn’t have any other ideas. Perhaps if you come up with something not food related that you would rather do in the future and you suggest it they will not pressure you so much to do dinner out??
