  1. Okay. I eat most of those things too. I’m thinking maybe it’s just because my calories are a lot lower than yours right now so the portion of those things I’m able to eat are probably a lot smaller after I get my protein. Probably just gonna be a thing until I get to maintenance. Except for the pasta and lentils. I’ve never tried lentils, but they actually put them in my grocery pick up order so I need to figure out how to make those. Is there a trick to it or just follow the instructions on the bag?

Before & After + Shorts that fit!

Did you find any cute clothes?? I’ve been able to find some things at thrift stores that fit now as well as some that should fit soon. Awesome progress btw.
  3. What are you eating that has so much fiber? I do a soluble fiber in the morning but I don’t seem to get much from my diet. I eat a lot of veggies but mine is still fairly low. The only days I have a lot is when I do low carb stuff like a keto wrap or when I have chili.

Question for post op surgery and matcha

I am allowed to caffeine as well. The surgeon does suggest to limit it but we were allowed coffee the next day in hospital if we liked it black I would ask why they don’t want you to have it. If it’s because it tends to be dehydrating but you’re having no issue with fluids, for instance, maybe they will be okay with your having it. Sometimes the blanket rules don’t apply to everyone.

I have never heard of that test. Is it like a DEXA scan where it’s all done by a machine and they’re considered pretty precise or is it one of those like handheld things that it’s possible they’re not doing it or reading it accurately? I agree with the idea of checking with your team and seeing if they think that makes sense. You gotta be careful with Gym staff making medical decisions because they don’t always have the same ethics as a doctor should (like you said they could be just trying to sell their services) . Or they may really have good intent but just not be trained as well or misinformed. Either way better to get a professional opinion when you can.

    Finally on the other side!

I had more random scrapes with my revision to SADJ than I did with my sleeve and it was the same surgeon so I thought that was kind of peculiar until I really thought about it. The SADI was robotic and the sleeve was not. My surgeon had many many years more experience doing it laparoscopically than he did doing it robotically so maybe even though the robot is supposedly more precise once it gets down inside of you it’s a little harder to maneuver getting the incisions done? obviously I don’t really know for sure that was just all I could come up with. The good news is I’m two months out now and all the superficial scrapes and scratches are long gone.

    Finally on the other side!

I had a couple incisions that were sunken in a bit, but mine were not bruised. I believe it’s not uncommon for either but honestly, I would just run it by your team and see if they want to take a look. Maybe you can email a picture.

    Almost time...

Well it should be a really good thing that you like water post op. Not sure about the salad. With the surgeries they actually cut your stomach and intestines it’s a while before your allowed salad but do they actually cut anything with the balloon or do they do they fill it after it’s in there somehow? I had the sleeve first, and I recently had a revision to the CB because of weight red and because they didn’t operate on my stomach. I had to wait like two months until everything was healed and now I can eat whatever I want so I’m back to salad earlier than those who had their stomach operated on. I’m sure you’re a doctor will tell you what is appropriate for you though. I really wish one of our restaurants would have Bogo on salads. I actually love them too. I have found that when logging all of my macros in an app that salad is actually not as great for us as we think it is as we tend to eat it. It’s mostly the dressing even one serving is pretty high in calories but if I am careful what I have the rest of the day I’m able to enjoy it on my plan. I finally figured out that if you put it in a bigger container and stir it around with the dressing, it’s easier to get a little bit on all of the lettuce with a smaller amount of dressing. Kind of like they do when they prepare Caesar salad. Of course it’s kind of hard to do that when you’re actually in a restaurant, but then I will just ask for the dressing on the side and dip a little bit as I go. With the smaller stomach, I mostly eat the toppings anyway, and just a tiny bit of lettuce to get the protein and nutrition before I run out of room.

    Very Sleepy after eating

I would mention it to your family provider. This can be a sign of prediabetes. Or it may just be what you’re eating. Some foods can cause blood sugar spikes. I don’t know too much about what specifically but if it’s not a medical thing perhaps a dietician could go over your food log and give you some tips.

Found this tip a while ago when searching for someone else who was ahead of me on their weight loss but finally got to where I could try it for myself. Since we all know that there is such a huge space between the extended sizes my shirts are very loose yet the next size down is still snug on me so I tried this tip. You turn the shirt inside out (or just do it while wearing but your working on the inside) and grab a small section and use a rubber band to create a gather on the inside sorta like a pony tail. It does shorten the length in that one spot a bit and you have to play with the placement but it really works. I still have a larger bust so it helps to snug the waist area so I still look like I have a shape. Not certain if I explained that very well but hopefully you get the gist and it helps you too.

Did you see that the bariatric pal store started making vitamins with a peppermint insert in the bottle so they don’t stink so bad when you open them. I can’t wait to try them if my team approves them.
  12. So happy you figured it out!!
  13. Ooh I was doing too many things at once. I didn’t realize until I really looked at it to compare that it has the mint scent thing in it as well. I am super excited now!! am going to figure out how to print the ingredients right now so I can take to my appointment with me and make sure this is okay but it looks perfect to me. I can’t wait to try these with the mint insert.
  14. Oh, this is perfect timing. The one I have with the ADEK has 60 mg of iron and I’m wondering if that might be a bit too high since I eat a pretty clean diet with iron rich foods. We’ll see when I get my labs back at the end of the month but yours with the 45 may be better for me.

    Almost time...

I imagine you with you’ll be fine. I think so long as they listen to your lungs and they take your temperature and those are clear you should be fine. I mean, some people have a lingering cough from a cold that was two months ago. But if you still don’t feel good, I would be honest because your body will be fighting a lot post surgery and better to reschedule, as disheartening as I know that would be, then take any risks. And if you have a forceful cough, still, I would ask to reschedule even if they don’t want to because coughing or sneezing hurts quite a bit immediately after surgery. My husband had somebody at work that had Covid and I made him sleep on the couch because I was so afraid after coughing one time while I was in the hospital I said no way am I getting sick.
  16. Pro Care Health multi with 45mg iron is what I took after my sleeve and my levels were always good too. Now I had SADI revision so I take their SADI specific one with a little more iron. I haven’t done any labs yet but I feel fantastic so I’m expecting them to be good.

I never had constipation or any issues being regular pre surgery and the milk of magnesia worked like a charm for me. I even started with the lower dose. Just know that sometimes you go more than once and you get very little warning when you need to go so if your away from home and feel the urge, don’t think that you have much time to pittle around. Get to a bathroom soon.

    Lay it on me !

I replied to your other post. I hope I got to it in time before your appointment. I imagine you still have time to change your mind about which surgery you want if not. My surgeon said I could have until surgery day to make up my mind but I guess it depends on how much time each will take.
  19. Wow. Not bad at all. It’s pretty amazing how the changes just keep coming too.

I know exactly what you mean when you get something that taste good you don’t wanna stop What I did after my sleeve when I went out was to ask for a to go box right away and put some of it away so I wouldn’t be tempted to eat more than I should. then I later learned another tip on here that if you’re out and you’re going somewhere else afterwards and you want to put your leftovers in a cooler it’s kinda hard with the big Styrofoam containers so bring your own little Tupperware like one of those flat sandwich ones and it holds just as much food without taking up a lot of room so you can fit it in a small cooler. I actually found some on Amazon that have like four or six sections depending on which ones you get that work really well too because I don’t like my food to get mixed and they seal pretty well so they’re fine if they tip over in the cooler with other things in there. I always carry a cooler with me because I’m too cheap to buy drinks when I’m out so it’s really easy to just bring along the container if I know I’m having lunch. Those little containers worked great to make adult lunchables too. They have bigger ones that have more sections and a couple different brands but those are the ones that I end up using most often to bring snacks or bring home food. Even if you needed to use two of them, it still fits better on a cooler they are called Bentgo boxes they are also exactly 1/2 cup for each section so it makes it easy to log your snacks when you’re packing them https://a.co/d/4BdZLlI

Has anyone else tried eating out yet. I went with my friend and we went to a steakhouse. They had a lunch portion of steak so I did that with mixed veggies as the side. I went home and put it in my calorie tracker and that small steak had a lot more fat than I thought but I just adjusted for it with dinner so I was still okay for the day. I was pretty proud of myself though because my friend had a bacon cheeseburger and it made my mouth water. I should remind you that they did not operate on my stomach. Steak is probably not a good call for most of you at this stage but my intestines are healed now so I can eat whatever.

Just be sure you’re okay to use a binder. If your team didn’t give you one there may be a reason. Staples, for instance, may not be good to be compressed. I’m not a doctor by any means but it doesn’t seem like that would be a good idea. If they gave you one then yes, I agree with @Mspretty86 the binder was a great deal of help for me too but if they didn’t give it to you I would run it by them first. They should have an after hours number for those who just had surgery, I would call them about the pain meds. They will be able to tell you what to take and when and maybe even call in something else if you have an aversion to the liquid.

    Psych evaluation?

For me the physical hunger is completely gone now. With my sleeve it was also gone but it did come back. It was around 6 months that it started coming back if I’m remembering correctly. It comes back for most people to varying degrees of intensity. The best case is that you take that time to really change WHAT you eat, not just how much because when the hunger comes back you will likely eat larger portions and if it’s less healthy food you will probably begin to gain. At least I did. With my revision I have changed what I eat entirely. I didn’t do this with my sleeve. I had just a few menu options so it’s no wonder I got board with it and started to eat off plan more often. This time I did research and found several healthy recipes to try and I found quite a few that I enjoy so I don’t get board at all. You may not recall but I have Bipolar and Anxiety. I have found that freezing some healthy meals has come in real handy at times when I am not up to cooking. I also am in touch with my surgical team more often for office visits as well as the support group meetings and those help tremendously. Post op I also had more frequent appointment with my psychiatrist and psychologist as well. I just asked for all of the support I could find because it is a lot of change which I don’t do well with but now that I am two months out and i have a little routine I am feeling better than ever. The exercise that I am finally energized enough to do has helped my mood tremendously and the weight loss and the social aspect of the group fitness classes have helped with my self esteem too. I have so much more structure and routine now which is actually really great for Bipolar. I am able to fall asleep at night and stay asleep and I wake up at the same time and exercise, I set recurring alarms for vitamins/food and I log my food with the Baritastic app and my fitness watch keeps track of all of my activity. I show all of that data to my NP at my checkups and she helps me make adjustments to my nutrition. You will probably see a nutritionist for food related questions but I had a newer surgery called the SADI and the nutritionist wasn’t very helpful with regard to the macros after I got back to normal food. As long as you are managing your mental illness, though, you should be just fine. Just don’t hesitate to ask for whatever help that you need in order to be successful.

I’m not sure about the snow but I’m glad your surgery is still scheduled. I think you’re probably right about then just making sure that you understand the surgery. Hopefully they will give you some written stuff about the post op diet and all of those instructions when you get to that part so if you forget you can go back and read it over again. I read mine a couple of times before my last appointment so I could ask all of my questions.

    Lay it on me !

I had a revision to SADI two months ago (which is a modified DS) and I’m very happy with it. After the sleeve I always felt like I was just on a diet. I still craved unhealthy stuff and didn’t have all the extra energy that people explained. So I lost a lot of weight but once my appetite came back I gained it back. Since the SADI it’s different. I would obviously still like to have pizza and pasta but I still enjoy the healthier choices and I have tons of energy. I walk about 5-7 miles a day and just started YOGA twice a week. I want to do an aerobics/strength class that meets two other days but I’m not quite there yet. I have lost 48 pounds total in 2.5 months (which includes the two week preop in which I lost 13 pounds). Not all surgeons do the SADI yet and there is not a whole lot of help out there in terms of what you should be doing nutrition wise. I spoke to two different nutritionists and they just gave me the same info as they would give for bypass but the NP has been looking at my fitness and food log charts and helping me to adjust my macros and it’s working. I was warned about diarrhea and stinky bowel movements but I have not experience either. In fact I’m still weaning off the stool softener. My surgeon did a few tests first to make sure my sleeve was In good shape because he does not make adjustments to the sleeve. He feels the risks are too high. The recovery was a little tougher this time and you have to be disciplined with your portions because physically you can eat more but once I was healed I was able to tolorate all the same foods as before since they didn’t operate on my stomach. I am now back to pretty normal portions of healthy foods.
