Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Starting over and less than confident - could use some help!
sxevan9 replied to Momma_oz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think I can be a mentor at this point, but I can be your buddy. I was banded 10/2008 and have lost about 65lbs to date. I thought I would have been further along at this point, but I must take responsibility for not being as focus as I should. I decided not stress about it, but start working hard. I read on another post that the band will only do 10% of the work the other 90% is up to you. I have only been putting in 25% of work and now I have to get myself straight. I didn't go through surgery not to make my goal. With that being said we can complete this journey together. -
Does anyone else throw up at every meal?
sxevan9 replied to urs9999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I find that I throw up if I don't chew my food well. What I have been trying to do is cut my food in small pcs. that way I don't have as much chewing to do if I put a large amount of food in my mouth. -
Just saw your message. For some reason I don't get email notifications when someone leaves a comment. I'm with you struggling. This is much harder than I expected. I honestly didn't put as much effort as I should at the start and didn't work out at all. Now I'm working out and trying to watch what I'm eating a little more, but I'm still tinkering around 50lb lost. When I go and get fills I have to justify more which drives me crazy... but I'm in it for the long haul so time will tell.

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for the Wii
sxevan9 replied to Blaze21's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I started the 30 day challenge on the EA sports active yesterday and OMG it is brutal. I'm moving around the house this morning like a turtle. My least favorite is those darn squats.... HATE IT.. but overall it was a AWESOME work out and I'm determined to complete the 30 days. I've re-comitted myself to ME and I'm trying to eat better with my band and work out .. which I was lacking before. I will keep everybody updated on the 30 day challenge -
I just ran across your profile on the Realize post. First I wanted to give you props you have done great. I'm also in the DMV (Suitland MD) I got my band end of October last year I have a question when did you finally hit your strive, sweet spot. I'm still eating more than I think I should and I have 6.5 cc in my band.

Don't beat yourself up about what has happened, you can't change the past. Each day give us an opportunity to start fresh. Go back to the doctors and get a fill and start from scratch. You already know you can do it, you proved it by losing the 40lbs. Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for the Wii
sxevan9 replied to Blaze21's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I ordered the EA Sports Active last week and can't wait for it to arrive. I've been losing slowly and know when I had some work outs to my routine it will help kick start me... I will post as soon as it arrives. -
Okay I had my 3rd fill and I gained 2lbs. Now I must accept resonsibility, because I know I have made the worse food choices this past six weeks. I've even been drinking, wine  and mojitos. Forgive me (I'm holding my head down in shame). Now I can two 1 of two things at this point. Feel sorry for myself or be greatful that it was only a 2lb weight gain and get off my butt and do what I know is right. I choose to get off my butt and do what I know is right. I didn't go through all this for nothing I tell you that. The surgery, time off of work, the money I've invested So today is a new day for me and I'm going to start making the right choices. and move forward. My birthday is July 23rd and I will be 43 years old. My current weight is 262,. My goal is to be at 225 by my birthday. That is a weight lost of 37lbs in 3.5 months. That is something that I should be able to do. So here I go... Hope to hear from you ladies soon. Our board was one of the most happening spots and now I hear crickets when I sign on ...

Hey everybody..Hope everyone is doing well. I was thinking (Yeah I know that could be dangerous at time, so my son tells me :tt2:) what about a recipe exchange tread. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm struggling to stay on task everyday. My meal issues are Breakfast, lunch and Snacks. Breakfast .. I'm finding that I only can pick from cold Cereal in the morning or Protein shakes. I would love a hot breakfast idea for someone on the go. A friend of mines was telling me about a breakfast caserole that she makes for her family, but she is a size 2 :w00t: and it is full of cheese, sausage and other stuff I'm sure won't help me. Lunch .. I'm always in the field, always eating out.. Sometimes I pack a turkey sandwich and sun chips, but again that can get tired quick . Snacks .. I'm killing the 100 calorie snack items:tongue_smilie:... think I'm keeping the stock prices up on those items. Hopefully we will be able to help each other out here. I look forward to any and all responses.

I've also noticed how quiet things have been... I'm sure it will pick up as the weather breaks... Well that is my hope. My work out is stalled a little. I was doing great on my treadmill in the mornings before work, but my ACL started giving me problems. (go figure.) so I stopped for a few, but I'm motivated to get back on and work some more. I think I was running to much so this time I'm going to work at a brisk walk with a good incline. My 3rd fill is comming up and I'm dreading getting on the scale at the docotrs office. I don't see any weight loss, but atleast I'm maintaining.

I've been struggling the last couple of weeks myself. When I received my 2nd fill I was comfortable with the restriction, but now it is gone. I was also doing well working out. On the treadmill every morning, with 1/2 to 1 mile daily. But now my ankle is giving me problems (go figure) I think I need to stretch more, but anyway I can only say to take everyday as a new day and not beat yourself up for whatever mistake you may have made yesterday. I'm not following any specific diet, just trying to be more mindful of my food choices. Keep me posted and I will do the same.

Hello Everybody, How are you all doing? The board has been a little quite the past couple of days. Guess everybody is busy. I wanted to check in and see what is new and check on everybody progress so far. For me I'm moving along very slowly. I go in for my 2nd fill on February 6th, and I can't wait. My surgery was 10/23 and so far I've lost 29lbs total. The weight is coming off much slower than I thought, but it is comming off, which makes me happy. I can honestly say I've not made all the "right" food choices since surgery which I know plays a large part in my progress. I'm not going to beat myself up, but learn and keep moving. As far as restriction I don't have much at this point. My first fill was 3cc and I belive my second is going to be an additonal 2cc. I'm hoping at 5cc I will start having some restriction. I belive my docotors office is to strict on fills. They make you wait eight weeks before you first week and six weeks after that. I'm going to have a long convesation with them on 2/6 about waiting so long for the next fill if I'm not feeling any restriction. How long do you have to wait for your fill and how much Fluid do you have and do you have any restriction? Please share your progress and give me idea what I can expect with my 2nd fill.

When did you get your first fill?
sxevan9 replied to LastOptionAtty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor is very strict and stingy with fills. But I understand his point, but of course I still stress my own feelings :tongue2:. I wasn't able to get my first fill until six weeks and than six weeks after that was my second fill. My third feel I have to wait eight weeks and that was with some serious negoting because he wanted me to wait three months for the third fill. My first fill was 3cc, second fill 1.5 cc (again i begged for that, he only wanted to give me 1cc). I've seen some docotors more liberal with fills, but docotor prefer to stretch it out for as long as he can. -
I must say that since my 2nd fill I've seen a big difference with my restriction, but would not say that I've found my "sweet spot". I'm currently at 4.5cc and think if I'm able to get an additonal 1cc fill next visit which isn't until April I may be there. The scale is finally starting to move again and I'm more motivated. At first I found it hard to exercise, but not now I'm excited to hit the treadmill and also do my work out tapes. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I went to the mall to purchase a light weight jacket because we had some nice days last week and I was able to fit in a size 20. Which means since October I've dropped from a 26 to a 20. Now if that didn't give me a kick start I don't know what will. I can even get in my 20 jeans. They are tight as heck and I can't move to much, but I can get in them zippen them up and also sit (first time I tried them on I had to stand the entire time .. lol) I'm seeing progress and I can't ask for anymore. I knew when I decided on the band the weight would come off slow, we all knew that, but I think in our hearts of hearts we wanted it to come off fast, which is why we are frustrated, but if we remember that we didn't gain this weight overnight and that out goal is to lose the weight and keep it off we may be able to accept this slow process. Now I just said this because I know it is true, but someone will have to remind me of this statement when I'm at a no weight lost point again. Keep up the good work ladies and let's kep posting. I think we all need to hear the struggles each other are experiencing to see that we are not in this alone and to help keep each other encouraged. Talk to you later my "sistas"

I think 1.5 cc was just enough of a fill (I Hate to admit). If I would have received anymore at that time it may have been too much. I do feel the restriction, I've noticed that I'm staying full longer and getting full much quicker. Yesterday I belive I felt my first experieince of "stuck". Wasn't eating too fast, but think I had one bit to many. Anyway it wouldn't go down and had to come back up, betcha I won't do that again. 4.5 cc is where I am and I go back in 8 weeks and I will see where I am after that. I'm not working out as much as I know I should, but I do try to get in about 2-3 days a week of my firm exercise tapes. I need to increase it to 5 days a week.
-
Okay I had my 2nd fill today. Things didn't go as planned , not from lack of trying. I was expecting for a fill of 2cc, but didn't get it.. reason being is that I've lost 6.7 lbs since my first fill. Personally I don't think that is alot (six weeks), but the docotr is fine with the loss. He said as long as I'm losing weight things are going as they should. I ended up getting 1.5 ccc, but can't go back for 8 weeks. Now I worked for t his dag on 1.5 cc, because when I got there he was planning on giving me 1cc and my next appointment in three months. Needless to say he realized that wasn't going to work . So I have eight weeks to see if I have any restriction and good weight lost.

I'm glad to hear your surgery went well and that you are starting to feell better. Try and take it easy take advantage of this time off and get some rest. Give yourself time to heal. What flavor Unjury shakes are you drinking? I had them all van, choc and straw. I actually liked the van and choc better. I actually still have some I drink it when I go in for a fill since I'm on liquids for a couple days after. Have you tried the chicken flavor. It isn't too bad if you mix it with chicken broth instead of water. Only problem is that you have to have luke warm broth which is a bother. Do you know what band you received. Was it Lapband or Realize? Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Haircare and Excercise Regimen
sxevan9 replied to likeitsgolden75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I usually wear my hair in a wrap. I've noticed when I have a fresh perm and wrap my hair I don't have a problem when I work out. I also do flat twist which is wonderful. I ususally keep them in for two weeks and I can work out to my heart desires and the style last. I do get it washed and conditioned every other week, which I belive helps keep it healthy. -
I appreciate the feedback. I know based on my last appointment that I will receive a min of 2 cc on 2/6. I think I will be good with that as long as they don't require me to wait so dag on long for another fill if I'm not feeling any restriction.
-
You had your surgery after me and already have more in your band than I do... I honestly don't understand why some doctors make you wait so dag on long for a fill, they are not letting the band the job it is meant to do. Anyways I'm going to push for 3cc on 2/6 instead of the 2 cc which will put me at 6cc and hopefully I can get somewhat of a sweet spot. I do know how you feel though I've been trying to get out of 260's for the past month. I was hoping by the next time I went back I would be at least 255, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make that goal or not right now 263 is hard to even maintain.

Hey all Hope everybody had a wonderful healthy Thanksgiving. I'm looking for a book on Lap Band, more so something dealing with "living with lapband" I've been looking on Amazon and most of the books I'm seeing is about preparing for surgery, specifics about surgery insurance etc., but I want a reference guid to use after you had surgery. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Did anyone watch Lifetime's new show last night "Diettribe"? I missed the first 15 minutes or so, but from what I saw it was pretty good. I was shocked beyond belif when one of the ladies annouced that they had gastric bypass and gained all the weight back. I'f I'm not mistaken it was the young lady who gained the most weight. I'm sure she is struggling with that issue in itself. I do know one thing it take a lot of courage to go on National TV and get on a scale. I won't even let anybody in my own house see how mcuh I weight when I'm the scale. Which now that I think about it is funny because I share my weight with you ladies all the time... LOL Just a Hmm Hmm moment. They also started the National Body Challenge last night. This was six people who are trying to get thier weight under control. The crazy thing about this show is one of them is actually a Nutrionist. Go Figure.

I have a Wii. I actually received it as Mother's Day gift last year because of the advertisement for the Wii Fit. I love my Wii. The boxing that comes with the game is a work out all in itself. I'm not good at tennis, but I do try. The Wii Fit is AWESOME. I was on it the other day doing some of the work out sections for my abs. I also did the joging (almost died, but finished) I highly recommend it. You can also check out this issue of Figure Magazine they have a two page article about the Wii Fit. Good Luck and let me know when you get started.

There's a leak in this old building!!!!
sxevan9 replied to liteweighttrina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is a something... Why didn't the first doctor take the time to realize you had a leak? I'm sure you asked yourself that question many times. The good thing is that they realized something was wrong and can correct it.. Do you have any idea what caused the leak? I'm asking because I had my first fill about two weeks ago and the Nurse Practioner did it, not the docotor and he was having a hard time finding the entrance and the entire time I was saying to myself I hope he doesn't put a darn hole in my band? Good Luck on Monday and keep us posted and Merry Christmas -
I'm happy things are moving along with your pre-op testing. Don't look at you not being able to lose the weight on your own as some kind of failure. You are taking the steps to meet your goal which is all that matters. I know everything will work out for you and I'm looking forward on you reaching this next milestone in your life.
