sxevan9 replied to health4life's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on getting your date. I know things will work out for the best and you have just been added to my prayers. I won't say Good Luck, because luck has nothing to do with it... you have it within and that is all that matters. -
RANT: I will be 2yrs post-op before I tell my momma!
sxevan9 replied to aprilapple's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey April, I understand what you are going through. When I decided to have WLS I didn't tell my mother either. I actually didn't mention it to anyone except my best friend. I even went to the seminar about the surgery and didn't tell anybody where I was for those two hours...for all they knew I had been abducted by ailens. After the seminar though I talked to my son who is 23 years old. I'm a single mother and it has been my son and I ride or die for his entire life and he wasn't happy about my choice to have surgery. I finally decided to tell my mother and of course you know what happened? My son and my mom ganged up on me and was againist it .. however I explained that this is for me.. not them me and instead of them beating me up, how about surpporting me like I support everybody else. Kinda got them with that one, anyway they still had some reservations but after talking to my gyn who I've been seeing forever and told him and he was 100% behind it and my family found that out they are actually excited for me.. and as a family we are going to the hospital. My mom who is my BFF and my son (who doubles as my father). Do what is best for you but think about who you are going to want to talk to about what you are going through and make sure that person is there for you .. You are such a kind hearted person that you will do the right thing... Okay I'm done -
Congratulations I'm glad everything went well and for the most part you are recovering (for the exception of the gas). Make sure you take it easy and don't over do it ... we want you to be healthy to start the begininning of your new healthy life.

Yettia.. just like everybody else have already said .. this is something you have decided to do for you and just keep that in mind. In our lives we do so much for everybody we seem to get lost, but this choice to have WLS is something for us, for you and with that don't let anybody make you feel bad about your choice. When I told my long term "friend" of my choice he reacted the same way. Kept asking me why go to that extreme, it is so much you can do besides having surgery. I brushed it off and said this is for me and I would hope you would support me, but that is your choice. I must admit things have not been good since I told him, but again that is also on him. Because nobody .... I mean nobody is going to take this away from me... Good Luck and kepp your head up and like April said keep loving him if it is meant to be it will work itself out and if it doesn't isn't it good to know now???

Angel... you better buy that dress and hang it in the front of your closet for inspiration. I recently joined the gym and was working out on the stepper and was tired (it was the last of three machines) my goal was 15 minutes each and I tell you that third machine after two minutes I was beat. But I closed my eyes and kept saying "skinny body, skinny body, skinny body) and finished my last 15 minutes.....LOL April..my six months is up on September 3rd..so I'm right behind you. My plan is to schedule my nutrionist appointment on September 3rd and Surgeon Appt on Sept 4th..Do I sound pressed ....

I've also not been banded, but figure if we work out while the weight is falling off we should be okay, well at least that is what I'm planning. THink about it the people on The Biggest Loser is losing over 100Lbs and they look good because they are working out all the time. I have a Wii Fit (very fun) and also just joined Baleys so I'm going to get my work out all the time. -
CONGRATS on being APPROVED. I'm so happy for you. How long did it take for Aetna to approve you once all your paperwork was submitted. I'm less than two months away from being eligible.

What has weight kept you from doing?
sxevan9 replied to Blessed1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Where do I began.. For one I don't go to amusement parks anymore. The last time I went to Kings Dominion it was hard for the roller coaster bar to go all the way down, which is when i stopped and that was some years ago.. I also love to travel but get nervous everytime I get on a plane because I'm scared the seat belt won't fasten. -
I have not been banded yet, but saw the same post about a week or so ago, so I brought it up @ my last nutrionist appointment. She said it is normal, but not to expect alot as long as you are getting in your protein and taking the vitamins/multi vitamins that are recommended by your doctor. Good Luck tomorrow.

One of my favorites songs is "Just to keep you Satisified" by Marvin Gaye. It isn't one of his main songs, but it is a good one. It is actually on of the songs from John Singleton's Baby Boy.

Women of Color and WLS-New Social Group
sxevan9 replied to aprilapple's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good Morning All.. I'm a 41 year old black female. I would love to join this group and think it is a wonderful idea. I have not had my surgery yet, still under my six month supervised diet which is required by my insurance company. I will be done in September... only two months. I also have wondered about the loose skin after the weight loss and also hair loss. I saw on one post where people have problems with hair loss I look forward to getting to know everybody and also finding the support that I know I will need -
That exact thing came up in my counseling session. My docotor said other patients who have had surgery didn't know how to respond when they get comments.... I think you are handeling the best way, by just saying thank you and smiling, don't feel obligated to tell anybody about being banded unless you want too.. Congratulations on your sucess so far and good luck
