I have been pencilled in for surgery?
dld512 replied to dld512's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to see a nutritionist to monitor my 10% weight loss like 4 or so times. I also have to see a Doctor that specializes in nutrition...she "manages" my case pretty much and is the one to sign off on surgery (she tells the surgeon I am a good candidate and have consistently lost weight). I have meet with her 3x's and have my final on the first of dec. It has been an agonizing process. I just want to say yay I have a date like so many others say. Instead I get to say "i'm pencilled in" -
I have been pencilled in for the 5th of January!!!!!

Medifast shakes...OH MY!!!
dld512 replied to Annie0341's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also on the medifast diet...week 5. I have only lost 13.5lbs. I shouldn't say only...but I was expecting a dramatic loss. My pre-op diet is intense as well. Best of luck. If you need any medifast support i'm here . The oatmeal is ok . -
I am a nursing student and recently had the opportunity to witness several surgeries. In all the surgeries the patients were only wearing gowns. There is however a draping procedure and the drapes are sterile. It is scary to think you will just be naked on a table. In all of the surgeries I witnessed no one was ever exposed anymore than they needed to be. The nurse's job is to act for you since you cannot act for yourself. Talk to her before surgery and tell her your concerns. In all honesty, they will not just whip off the gown and leave you naked on the table.

I am on Medifast trying to lose my 10%, so they will schedule me for surgery. I have lost about 9lbs. in a month and have about that to go. I feel like I have hit a plateau. Any advice or experience with the medifast diet?

I am 4lbs. away from getting my date and have been doing some soul searching about expectations. . . . and how my life will change for both the good as well as the bad. I was hoping that some of the veterans on this site can enlighten me on things they didn't expect or didn't know would change? Both physically and mentally/emotionally? Thank you so much.

Hi, I have been to my intial consult, psych eval, and my first visit with the nutrtionist. . .I also have a pcp appt tomorrow. The ball is rolling. . . and fast. I have not told my parents (whom I live with). I was hoping to get some advice on how and when to do it. . . .and hear other peoples stories of telling loved ones. Especially those who were unsure of how they would react.
-
Thanks so much for all the advice. I was going to tell then after insurance approval but that wouldn't give them enough time to get used to the idea.

It went well...I meet with their nutrtionist wednesday...my primary thursday... I just barely meet the bmi. So it may be a struggle with the insurance company. I have to go to at least 2 support group sessions and an educational session. I am nervous and excited all at the same time. The first doc appt they want me to schedule is the pulmonologist. What does one healthcare approval mean? Good luck with everything and keep me updated. And feel free to just vent to me. I am a good listener. : )

Clinical Nutrtionist VS. Bariatric Physician
dld512 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could someone please explain the difference to me? In my paperwork it says after intial consult I will be referred to either a Clinincal Nutritionist or Bariatric Physician? Also has anyone seen a Nutritionist and lost weight and then been denied for surgery because of progress with the nutritionist? -
My intial consult is July 28th. Too far. . .I have actually been thinking about calling and see if they have a cancellation list. . .hee hee hee. I am impatient. . .once I make up my mind about something.

I was wondering if anyones surgeons required the 6-month diet. . .or if that was an insurance company requirement?
-
I was hoping to gain some insight on the process at albany med and Dr. singh. . . . any advice would be appreciated.

I will definetly say a prayer. Please let me know what happens.

Are they saying you can't have it at all or that you have to get things under control? I hope everything works out for you.

I was curious because everyone had something a bit different. I have no known co-morbidites so I am curious as to what they will say. How has your journey been going? How are you feeling. . . what are you eating or not eating. . . how are you losing and did you tell people? Sorry about all the questions I am like a SPONGE I want to know all I can! I wish my appt was closer.

Thank you so much for that last post! It put a lot of things in perspective. I met with my primary doc today and she is on board...I wrote everything down and gave it to her and before she even finished the first paragraph she said "you're ready to try the lap-band huh?" I was so relieved. . . .scared but relieved. Sooo one potential "no" out of the way! Now on to july 28th. What testing is needed ? I know some but I haven't heard any details . . . do docs try to schedule things all together?

I am really confused now. Any one else out there wanna chime in? lol. This is such a big decision and I don't want to make the wrong one :/

About the hospital in general or the program? Can you give me and example of what you have heard? I was wondering. . . . .I have heard WAY more about Ellis on here?
