43% Yankee?! :faint: Well, I was born and raised in Northwest Ohio, I suppose that makes sense. BUT.........I'm descended from William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield (one of the orignal Hatfield/McCoy feuders) and my family hails from West by God Virginia.

NJChick, The South Beach Protein, CEREAL bar-found in the cereal aisle- is 140cal, 10g protein. I LOVE the peanutbutter ones. I hear the cinnamon ones are good. I think there are chocolate ones. Haven't tried anything but peanutbutter cuz I LOVE 'em! They remind me of those great scotchies, kind of like rice krispie treats made with peanutbutter. YUMMY. I used to put one in my lunchbag and have it at the end of the work day so that I wasn't ravenous by the time I got home. It felt like a little treat at the end of the day. Plus, it helped me boost my protein intake. my mouth is waterin'

Am I the only one who's with Chris here? I still go to McD's once in a while. Yeah, I miss the Big Mac's, McGriddles and Egg McMuffins. I just can't eat the darn things anymore. They're just too filling AND, believe it or not, I don't feel so hot afterwards (kind of crappy/sluggish). For breakfast I usually get either the fruit and yogurt parfait or a breakfast burrito. If my son gets the hotcakes, I MIGHT have a bite but that's pretty rare because I'm really satisfied with what I got. If I have a meal there, I get a hamburger, eat it without the bottom bun (my DH laughs at me, but that's O.K.) and instead of fries I get a fruit and yogurt parfait. It's less than 200 cal, has 5g of Protein, and kind of a treat. I think it's all about the choices you make and knowing what you're putting in your mouth.

What the heck just happened to me????
S@ssen@ch replied to vlb11752's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The way I was told was that when something doesn't want to go through the narrowed portion of your stomach, where the band is, our body produces lots of mucous to help lube it up and make it pass easier. Because something is kind of blocking the way, not necessarily stuck, the mucous comes up instead of going down. Everybody has their own "high risk" or nono foods. You discovered that eggs can be one for you. Breads, Pasta, rice, red meats, dry meats in general, eggs, salads. All of those can be high risk for some but not for others. It's one of those things you kind of have to figure out for yourself. :welcome: to the club -

I so completely agree with Anwyn. I, myself was in a similar situation (although without the lame-brained cousin on public assistance, instead it's a brother in law haha). Anyway, priority #1, you MUST break all ties with that EX. It's hard, but you must do it. That doesn't mean that you can't still use those thoughts as motivation. I know I occasionally think, "I wonder what he'll think when he sees how much I've lost." But, don't use that as your primary motivation. I turned my deep desire for this man or even sadness for not having him in my live (aka regret) into anger at how much he hurt me. When I find myself not being angry at him, I remember that he seemed to have no remorse for the terrible pain he inflicted upon me, knowing that I loved him (apparently more than he loved me). What I did was start a personal journal and wrote in it every day until he didn't matter to me anymore, until I realized that my family was so much more important that all the time I was wasting yearning for him. It was then that I saw the light of a brand new day. My doctor originally recommended counseling, but in my history with counseling all they did for me was listen to me work out my own damn problems. So, if you feel you could use professional help. Do it. If not. Start a journal. It helps, it really does. And.......it even helps me with my weight loss. Secondly, let loose of that leech of a cousin. By helping someone like that you only enable her to be dependant on others and not an INDEPENDENT adult. She needs to make mistakes and suffer the consequences of her own decisions. My BIL was the SAME way. He lied to us, stole things from us and pawned them off, gosh I could go on forever. Cut her loose. You'll be better off for it, so will she once she realizes that not everyone will enable her to perpetuate her lies and schemes. As far as your financial situation. Man, OH Man. I feel for you and in this it just takes persistence. I think the Oprah debt diet can be a good suggestion. But I've found in my own life, living with debt, persistence and patience is the key. There are free credit counseling centers available. Just a suggestion. GOOD LUCK! I think that once many of the stressors in your life get under control, you'll find your groove and your weight situation will improve. Keep coming to LBT, we'll listen. We'll offer as much support as we can. Again, it was a slip up with the Cookies, but you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start fresh. I wish you all the strength and support I have to give. I can only imagine what your going through, as I've experienced what you're talking about (just not necessarily all at the same time). My thoughts are with you Marcelle, Dawn -
Looks like you've had enough slaps. Thank God the closest Sonic is at least an hour away from me. (not that I wouldn't drive there to get a great slush, or a smoothie, hell those chili cheese fries sound great............OH NO I'VE GONE INSANE!) The best advice is if you fall off a horse, pick yourself back up and get back on. Hopefully you can tolerate food and not have to go back to liquids or something. Good Luck

Isn't that the goal of support forums like LBT? I don't remember anyone accusing bypassers of the things you mentioned. I know those symptoms have been discussed, but those are not necessarily a foregone conclusion for all bypassers. I think that we, as bandsters, convince ourselves that the other surgeries definately have these "severe and adverse" side effects so that we can be confidant in our decisions about lap band. And vice versa. I'm sure the bypass patients do the same about lap band. That doesn't mean I'm offended that they do it. It's just "the grass is green on MY side" this time. I'm happy with my decision. Yes, there are lifestyle changes. Yes there may be side effects such as gas or burping. These were side effects I was willing to live with. I would hope the bypassers would be able to say the same about their decision. I don't judge them for it. They made their decision for their own reasons just as I made my decision for my own reasons. Jack made some very valid points regarding the comparisons to different makes of cars, motorcycles, etc. When you think of it that way, it makes perfect sense. We all have the same fight, obesity. We just took a different path to get to the battle and win the war.

My doctor recommends stop drinking 15 min before you eat and no drinking 1-2 hours after you eat. The reason is that by drinking while you eat or soon after you eat is that you literally turn your food into a liquid sludge and allow it to pass through the banded part of your stomach more easily therefore defeating the band. You won't have that full sensation as long. I sometimes drink right up to the point of eating, especially if I haven't eaten for hours and hours because when I watched my band under fluoroscopy I saw that Water passed right through the band. None was held in the pouch area of the stomach. I figure there's no water left in there to "wash" my food away. But I NEVER drink with meals. It's something I never started to do and I don't plan to.

Thanks TommyO. I think we all need to hear inspirational stories like this to remind us why we were banded and to give us hope. We can all see bits of ourselves in this. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Xann, First, I want to congratulate you on the 13.2 lb loss. That's absolutely great! You may not see it as great, but it is. Think about it. In 2 months (average 8 weeks, which included post op healing) you've lost 1.6 lbs a week. That's NORMAL! That's wonderful! :cheer2: Second, YOU SAID YOU WERE PMSing. What the heck are you doing on the scales? :brick:If you know you retain Water, and you are susceptible to some depression during this time you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. My scale always shows at least a pound or 2 gain right before that time of the month. I blow it off as my female burden to bear. I might not even weigh myself and wait until "Aunt Flo" is gone because then my body has wrung itself of those excess fluids. I might actually see some positive results. :clap2: Wallow in your time of the month as you need to. Try not to go on too many binges. When it's all over, get yourself up and get movin'. I guarantee you'll feel better and you'll see the light. Doctors recommend excercise during "that time of the month" to decrease cramping. Maybe you could go with that and those endorphins from the exercise could pull you up out of the depression at the same time. You never know?

I guess I never thought of it that way, but you're right. Makes me feel a little better. :)

Queen of the gods?! All bow down! :faint:

I must still have enough padding to keep me from "bumping" it, but thanks for the heads up.

Fleur, I can only speak from my own experience from the band. Just before the surgery, I KNOW I had second thoughts. I worried that I was making a mistake or that it wouldn't work or even that I wouldn't be able to make the necessary lifestyle changes. But it did and I did and everything is going well. Immediately after surgery, I had the normal post op pain but that went away in a few days. I felt full all the time and could only eat a few bites. Once the post op swelling went down, I could eat more but not nearly as much as I could before the surgery. I have lost weight consistently and if I gained a pound or 2 here or there it was because I made poor food choices or did a lot of in-between meal snacking. Once I got back on track, those pounds came back off easily. For me, as long as I follow the rules everything works like it's supposed to. I have never vomited because of the band. The only vomiting I have done since banding was related to my gall bladder. Good Luck

Dana, There might be and you just haven't found it yet. I have found great support on yahoo where bandsters meet in my state. I just found a TN bandsters on yahoo. What happens for me, in Ohio, is that because it's a larger state and people don't want to drive all over, we separate by regions and we get together in groups once a month. I was lucky, my band surgeon started a lap band support group. Not everybody likes his support group so, I was glad to find the Bandsters of Ohio to have another bandster support group. Good Luck

oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh, peanutbutter eggs (drool) Hubby had to hide those from me. :nervous I didn't make peanutbutter Cookies with reese's cup in the center, but I did make peanutbutter cookies with hershey's kisses in them....mmmmmmmmmm Dang it, now I got it in the head again......just kidding.

Thank you Jonathan. In my effort not to offend, I glossed over it so lightly I missed the point you so eloquently made. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. These were my concerns and what I read in Carolyn's original post as well.
-
Diane, I'm so glad to hear your band wasn't slipped. After reading through the posts and especially about the black tar vomit, I was really concerned. A slip wasn't my first idea when I read it, but I'll remember that symptom for future reference. :nerd: I'll also remember the hot dog. Man.....Scary! :)

Maybe we should form a secret society of Reese's peanutbutter cup sneakers. For the last month those things as well as those great Dove eggs they've got out for Easter have me mezmerized. I'm sittin' home recovering from a gall bladder surgery gone wrong/dislocated hip. So all I do is obsess about what sweets there are for me to eat. I bake Cookies, cakes, brownies and if I happen to get out...I buy candy. Somehow I managed to shake some sense into myself and for the last 3 or 4 days I've been fighting off the urges. I don't know how I did it other than the fact that I started logging my food again. I'll be so glad to go back to work again (not).

I had kind of an opposite experience. My support group is all bandsters. One meeting, a man came and brought his wife who had RNY some 3 or 4 years ago. She was the only bypass patient there. No one attacked her or questioned her decision. In fact, we would have never known her situation had she not stood up and told us her nightmare of a story. She told us how difficult it was for her to eat and get basic nutrition. Basically she was living on ice cream and cream Soup. She vomited nearly every day. She had had several strictures that had to be repaired. And she told us how lucky we were to have chosen the band. She told us how healthy we looked with our pink color and full heads of hair. That she would have done it in a heartbeat had she known it was available at the time. We wound up sympathizing with her and doing our very best to give her nutritional advice-we had a dietician in the group. Usually, there's a great division between bandsters and bypass patients. They kind of get this stance of "my surgery is better than yours". They hold firm to that and will argue to the death. Everyone makes their own decision about WLS for their own reasons. Once the decision is made, they stick to it. And for RNYers, their decision is usually a more permanent decision. I've only run into a few individuals open minded enough to learn, in an unbiased arena about the other surgery types and positively comment about the other surgery. My advice, get your support where you can. Not that my support group isn't good, but that's why I belong to several online support groups. I believe support is vital to weight loss success, with or without surgery.

Anticipation of Band leading to out-of-control eating
S@ssen@ch replied to CLOE's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cloe, The last supper syndrome is actually quite common. But, it's good that you recognized it now. Kristin gave great advice and made good points about what you put on now and having to take it off later. I did exactly the opposite. I went into what I called my full "training mode". I was so excited, I decided I just had to learn all I could about lap band life that I spent most of my free time online or reading articles and books about the lap band. I started living the lap band lifestyle before I was banded so that I could prove to myself that I could do it. In the process, I lost 19 lbs between my consult and my surgery date. :clap2: Good luck -
Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
S@ssen@ch replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had GERD for years before surgery and was pleasantly surprised when it seemed miraculously cured for the first 5 months afterwards. Then I started having gall bladder problems, but didn't know it was gall bladder problems. Once I finally got the gall bladder out 5 months later, I kept having kind of a burning feeling in my stomach at night, especially if I'd sleep on my back. I don't have the reflux that comes up your throat and gags you. It's just a nagging burning. So for the last few days I started taking my OTC tagamet and VOILA, it helped. I guess the GERD is back. -

I agree, Bucky and Lisa better be steppin' up their game or it's their head on the chopping block next. Although I'm counting the day until Pickler is gone. That dumb blond hick act is grinding my last nerve. I missed Chris telling her not to say that again. LMAO! Great Ron Jeremy joke! Paula must have come down from her high last night, she acted sort of normal.
