Taz, Thanks I'll have to talk to my friend, she doesn't have a band but she just has a hard time with meds I think in general. Nanook.

I love Paula and think she's great, love to have her as a relative! No one says you have to eat that way everyday but the food Network would be a very boring place if there were only "healthy" food on their shows, I don't think they'd exist anymore. I certainly wouldn't watch it, lol! I don't know about her accent and never questioned it. I don't know any people from her area (Albany, GA?) but I do know and am related to quite a few from SC and I also know when I'm down south it's easy to pick up an accent and I've always loved southern accents. Now I live up north and personally am not too keen on certain northeastern accents, I think it's just a personal thing and what we're used to. I'm from MD and never thought I had an accent until I moved up here! Paula keep cooking the way you do, I can live vicariously through it! Tyler florence is another good one and he's from Greenville, SC from what I remember. Nanook.

No because that would be gossip! And I heart me some RR!

Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?

Desy, I'm a bit confused what do you mean by a BMI of 40 with co-morbibs is too late? Nanook:confused: -
私の名前はJess(Nanookの孟女)です。 お会いできて嬉しいです! 調子はどう?

I also feel bad for RR because of all the rumors that came out about her hubby and the prostitute and the spitting and the toes and all that in one pot it's got to suck!

When I hear it it's more like spaa-geeeeeeeeee-teeeeeee:lol: And I asked my daughter's friend who majored in Italian if that was correct and I guess it is but still sounds weird to me!

Is it the raspiness (sp) of her voice or her Upstate NY kind of accent, I have to be protective as my children were born and raise here, lol! OMG when Giada says "spaghetti" I just cringe! Do you know what I'm talking about? I believe her mother was an actress and has some connection to movies etc... don't remember what it is.

Ready, I'm straight but my daughter is pansexual (sp). When I read what you said about Austin and weird it reminded me of a show that was on a few years ago, I think it was on MTV and it was about a group of people living in Austin and I loved it. Did you ever see that show, it was weird but in a good way. Nanook:smile: -

IndigoGirl55, No offense taken here! Yes and I do agree with a lot of the points you've made here:thumbup:Nanook. -
Ready..., It's clearly her issue but if she says something that you find somewhat offensive for example looking at herself in a pic when she's a size 6 and saying look at my gut tell her how it makes you feel. It's all relative, models are jumping out of the NYC apartment buildings to their death, they'd don't love themselves anymore than a larger size woman. (I'm assuming it's still a suicide). You also have given out the message that you're not pleased with your body by having WLS so possibly she feels it's fine to discuss things in that way with you. I'm not saying the only reason we tend to get WLS is for esthetics as health is and should be the main reason but we all feel pressure to fit into society's ideal. If she's a toxic friend then maybe you should rethink the "friend" thing. If she's been there for you for 20 years and you realize that no one is perfect and you can still benefit from each other's friendship then work past it. Nanook.

Ilse72, Sorry, you're right I kept reading that over and was a bit confused myself! Nanook:smile: -
Hi Taz, I have a friend who has severe fibromyalgia, do those medications bother your stomach? She's had a hard time finding something that doesn't bother her stomach. Thanks, Nanook:smile:

I hope quoting you works out there was a problem with it before. If dieting actually worked no one would be making the amount of money off of it as they are! How many times have you gone to a WW meeting and then started over again? They may mean well, (that's questionable) but they still rope you in again and they're making a boatload of money and they're just one of many!:smile2: -

IndigoGirl55, Just for the record that second quote was from Ilse72 not Nanook, no biggy, thanks Nanook -
R R is from the area I live in and so I feel I kind of have to support a hometown girl who does "good". I think R R has a healthy attitude about food in general. How else could you cook and love food that much and still have her shape! I prefer Paula Deen and she makes me feel good and I enjoy her shows and I can relate to her more except for the fact I wasn't a cheerleader and she may have been a prom queen too! They're both strong women who have succeeded in male oriented businesses.:smile2:

Hey times are hard, I think money is on all our minds. I definitely wouldn't have even considered it if I was self-pay, that's just me. I remember when I got married in 1982 my father gave me a $1,500 allowance for wedding costs. I didn't realize that he spent more on the brothers on their rehearsal dinners! So I went to Learners which back then was a "cheap" store and bought a dress on sale, it was even a size too small but I starved myself for 2 weeks and fit into it. I think it was a pretty white dress with a Victorian look to it on sale for $20. Had the wedding in the backyard of my BIL's house and my dad made a turkey and his mom a ham and one of my brothers bought a keg. Those days are gone!!! Oh and the rest of the money was spent on our honeymoon at the beach for a week. I don't know if after the girls graduate, I'd be able to afford the kind of weddings they have today. OMG, I watch some of those shows like Bridezilla and Platinum Weddings and don't know how people do it. I say living together for the first 25 years is a good thing! I was one of those who got her MRS instead of her PhD like all my bros did! Although I love my husband dearly. -

Indigogirl55, That is very true there is prejudice within our own group of peeps on sizism! Not necessarily in the forum but in general. Many interesting books and articles and sites on the matter in fact! But I won't go "there" because it's way too controversial for Rants and Raves:unsure: -
I can I just didn't want to spend the extra money! My husband needs one too. I'm one of those do all for the kids and put yourself on the bottom of the list! It's just that it makes it really confusing when I go to sites. It's only a 3 hour drive so it's not that big of a deal so I was kind of hoping I could get away with it since it would make a cheap day trip for hubby and me!

Calm down, I never said self pay was easy! Sometimes it's a struggle to pay the co-pays and I never would have paid out of pocket personally, I have enough worries with putting 2 girls through college! That's your choice! Nanook. -
I would worry about a med that needs to be taken with food, because you don't want to hurt your new little stomach. I guess there can be different reasons why a medication needs to be taken with food so I would check that out before your surgery. I know some meds can be taken through a patch but you want to take the med as prescribed so I'd discuss it with your doc.

I think the OP is probably a bit stressed at the fact that she's still a bit in limbo about her insurance coverage of the surgery and seeing so many others who are getting approved or having the money to self pay and being at a weight to start at, for example 200 lbs or less, probably may seem a bit unfair to her or even crazy. She'd probably be kicking and screaming to be at 200 lbs right now so I can understand her frustration. Weight issues are all in the minds of the beholders and is a very relative situation. She is after all in Rants and Raves but I don't see her as attacking people per se and only expressing her feelings through this post. I don't think a pouncing on the OP is really necessary. Nanook:smile:
