This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!
Nanook replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Rants & Raves
I just think that the attitude here in lapland is the same as the attitude there in obesityland I don't see any difference between the two forums, there's a feeling of "mine is better than yours and mine works better than yours" in both forums so why attack each other, it seems silly and weird that the people here don't see the same thing in themselves IMHO. Froggi went over and baited them anyway I saw her original post and came back here to share about it, what does that tell you? We're all drawn into WLS for a variety of reasons, some of us have had revisions and others, like myself have a daughter who had a different procedure than myself. We're also seeking out information and the pettiness that often goes on is not conducive to support, IMHO, Nancy:frown: -
Thanks BabyNicole, So far so good, she's in good spirits today and is able to get her meds down and is on soft food so she can get in her Protein drinks now, take care and good luck with the book, Nancy.

possible dehydration?
Nanook replied to blackcherry2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know much about dehydration and the lapband if you can get down Water and you seemed concerned about retaining it. I've never had that problem but seems like something you should call you surgeon about and discuss. I just spent an ER night and 3 in-patient days with my RNY daughter for dehydration and she couldn't get any water down for a while and it's not a good thing but she was closed up with a stricture and they had to open it up. I'm a lap bander and have been too tight where I couldn't get my own saliva down and had to get an emergency removal of saline but never got to the point of dehydration. So in my opinion it's best to call the doctor as you know your own body and your family history and instinctively you seem to think there is an issue and it's better to be safe than sorry. Just make sure you get all your points across so they don't blow you off! take care and wish you well Nancy.:Banane37: -

Tanny, I wasn't sure when you were getting it fixed you said you had to wait on insurance or something before, good luck with that. I've had to deal with issues with my daughter who had RNY in May with a stricture and spent way too much time at the hospital this week!!! I'm basically a worrier anyway but when it comes to your own kid it's magnified! Sometimes I wish there weren't WLS anymore!! take care Nancy. -

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY
Nanook replied to debbieperez55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Luluc, I wasn't directing that to you personally and don't know why you thought I did. I have had problems with people at this forum, albeit probably just a handful but you are not one of them. Things got a bit petty here in months past, just as they do in any forum, part of the game I suppose. Anyway I don't come that often or post that often, not like I used to as I have changed my POV of this forum but still am banded so I like to keep a pulse on things once in a while. Lately I've been reading various threads attacking other forums and certain people in particular who have had other WLS and find it to be immature and petty. Maybe you don't read all the threads that I have and haven't seen it. As a mother of a RNYer and personally am a Lapbander I maybe a bit more objective about things and maybe not, lol. So I have to learn about my own proceedure and deal with my own issues as well as my daughters. So it really gets in the way of things when I see how immature people have gotten on some of these forums this one included as well as Obesityhelp but I don't see Lapbandtalk as the "high ground" in any way, shape or form. It's too bad there is so much bullying around here and other forums for WLS when all people want is real support and knowledge. We've all suffered enough in our society, especially as women, with too much pressure to be thin, first with diets that fail and we end up gaining weight, diet meds, and then placing our children on diets at early ages did nothing for the "obesity" epidemic in our society and now we're all getting WLS! When one of those screws up we now get revision WLS. The thought that we're all fighting over whose WLS is better is a bit insane to me at this moment, sorry brandyII-Nanook:frown: -
Do any of you get "crap" from RNY
Nanook replied to debbieperez55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Babynicole, I know the forum you speak of and have never had a bad experience there. As you know I am banded post op one year and my daughter RNY post op 2 1/2 months. I go there for my daughter as she is not a forum person and when there are issues with her procedure or I have questions I feel very welcome and safe there which is not necessarily the case here. Unless you choose to be a "band cheerleader" you may not get that welcome feeling here that you get at other forums even if they've added a so called RNY section to this forum. Gastric Sleeves seem to be more acceptable alternatives here for some reason. I don't know why people tend to be so tunnel visioned here but many are. WLS in general is a major decision and no matter which one we choose it can have complications and problems so I really don't see why people think their sh&*t here don't stink, lol!:whatchutalkingabout -
I saw your other note about the book, all I can say is "good luck!", lol. You know that's something that was brought up by her on-call surgeon and I suppose that may have contributed to it or it's the circle thing where you have a hard time getting stuff down and eat the softer stuff, so I'm not totally positive if we can find out the exact reasoning behind it. I posted it on the forum you are on to see how common it was. She's a partial vegetarian but has started eating fish/seafood and that's pretty soft too. So she doesn't eat any red meat or poultry. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? She was never a big Protein drink person though and really needs to supplement more. Who knows, I do know that I could tell a long time ago that things were not just right, mother's instinct, but convincing doctors/PA to do something is a whole other ballgame sometimes. Same surgeon team but felt like was being blown off at times. Up to last week she was eating cooked veggies and baked fish or tuna from the pouch but has always had a hard time with her supplements and meds. Since I have the lap band it's sometimes hard to relate as it's almost night and day when it comes to a lot of our issues. I was concerned because the doctor's office would say she's doing well because she'd lost so much weight but I was like, "hey, she's really not thriving like she should be" you know and they weren't getting it. The last time I spoke to the surgeon at the hospital yesterday he even said that her weight loss was too fast for her, she's six feet tall and started at almost 360 lbs and is under 260 lbs and her surgery was 5/27. She can start soft foods again tomorrow and hopefully build up to solids again but I feel better knowing they're going to do another endoscopy just to be on the safe side to stretch the opening even though they are not fun as you are awake! Anyway thanks and I'm glad things are going well for you and I do think you're right about getting in the solids that may have kept you from having this problem. I have to go to your forum when I have issues with her and everyone is so nice and helpful. I wish you the best and good health take care, Nancy.:tt2:

I was drawn for less than a 24 hour period, had a lapse in judgment, but still have been in many a forum dealing with WLS and LBT is just as harsh as any other I've been involved in specifically with me personally:mellow: -

Has anyone experienced the band being too tight?
Nanook replied to Petphoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you're vomiting up your own saliva you are too tight. Good times!!! -
Babynicole, As you know previously my daughter had her RNY the end of May this year and has already lost over 100 pounds. She's had a few bumps from the beginning and it was just found that she had a stricture and after a really great time in the "hospital from hell" (long story) this week she finally had an endoscopy done today as her opening was almost closed completely shut. They dilated it today with a balloon but she's to be scheduled in two weeks to have another one as they supposedly can close up again after the first attempt. Fun times but I'm hoping after this second one she'll be fine and be able to get her all nutrients in again and start on the road to normal! Good luck to you, I don't know how common this stricture is, kind of got the impression it is, and her surgeon was surprised she got it 3 months post-op as opposed to a few weeks but like I've said prior she's always seemed to have a hard time getting in all her meds and supplements and food/water. So I wish you good health and success with yours, brandyII alias Nanook.:wink2:

Afraid to get restriction
Nanook replied to kalona's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone needs the band to be motivated to lose weight. And the band doesn't always work the way it was intended. In fact for me it worked in the opposite direction and there were other factors keeping me up at my current weight. I think you were able to do it on your own and know your own body well enough to get it removed and stay healthy, Nanook -
Pressure pain in upper rib area and 11months post surgery
Nanook posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does anyone remember having any pressure on pain in the upper rib area months after surgery. I'm 11 months post and have been noticing this lately especially sitting. It's not chest pain but lower. Was wondering if it could be a stretched pouch or something. Anyway if anyone else has dealt with this I'd appreciate it as I don't see my surgeon for another month. Thanks Nanook. -
Jamie... I was unsuccessful also and am at the crossroads now of considering removal. Mine was done 8/07. I just don't think it was right for me and at this point just want to get it out and start over, good luck I sure there are plenty here who will give you advice. Nanook.

I don't think I can do this anymore
Nanook replied to SeattleCindy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's been hard for me too. I don't know why it seems like some people don't have as many issues being banded as others. I know now that the band really wasn't the best choice for me but it doesn't mean I'm going to totally give up on my health. I'm going to be one year post-op in August and never lost any weight. There are always going to be a percentage of people who the band doesn't help no matter what people tell you it's not for everyone. Whether or not that's true for you I think is too soon to tell. Good luck and discuss it with your doctor. Nanook. -
Really freakin out right now!
Nanook replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can see some of my self in this woman as I had a similar situation, lost weight prior to surgery and gained it all back. I don't think it's the right surgery for everyone and I guess there has to be better ways of weaning out the ones who won't be successful like myself. It's hard enough being an overweight person/woman in our society without being told you're a total failure because your lap band wasn't the right surgery for you. On the other hand my daughter had an RNY last May and is almost down 90 lbs. Her surgery was about a year after mine. I know now that the lap band was not the right surgery for me but I don't think it's worth putting myself through the "chance" of the next one not working either. Obviously you're not going to have a lot of people in this forum who didn't do well or won't do well as it's not productive so somehow you have to get an objective view point. Good luck with your decision and try to find out as much as you can about it before hand, moxie3:smile: -
To be fair not everyone is successful after WLS, I am one of them and there are plenty of others they're just not sharing that info on this site out of fear of attack! Also the WLS industry in general is making a ton of money and not only that as I've read from many posters they're still going and paying for Weight Watchers and the likes after banding and still purchasing WL books. So everyone is feeding WL system, I choose not to anymore, Nanook:thumbup: Be happy in your own skin!

bbanded, I'd just go back to a new psych and make sure the depression diagnosis is correct and that you're put on the right medication. Sometimes they can confuse being bipolar with depression and vice versa and you need the correct meds. And if you've been on meds for a long time they might want to switch the med or up your dosage, good luck to you Nanook:smile:
-
I'm on blood pressure meds now for the first time in my life and was fine prior to surgery and now am 11 months post-op. Nanook.

I've always felt family comes first and my sister in law is my best friend even though she lives in Philly 5 hours away we talk by computer at least one or twice a day. Froggi where did you get all these crazy new frogs?

I'm not an expert on the matter but when you have a situation like this it's good to involve a lawyer. Does your mother have a will drawn up, does anyone have power of attorney. Even if your mother is not on her death bed these things need to be dealt with in some way legally and if you feel one sibling is not thinking in her best interest I think you may have to get an attorney so that someone is thinking in your mother's best interest. Nanook. I was one of five kids who had power of attorney when my father was moving from his apartment to an assisted living facility and it can get very complicated. There are people out there who can help you.

Lapband removal & cost in Dallas, texas area
Nanook replied to mustangsally's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mustangsally, It will be a year since I had my lap band surgery next month and I see my surgeon on the anniversary so I know what you're going through as it was not the right decision for me either as I only gained back my weight and never lost but I still have it in and don't know what will happen next, good luck to you Nanook. -
CatM, I'm sorry to hear about your situation and you're obviously stressed and depressed about this. Have you every considered seeing a therapist to help you deal with this situation? I am one who did not do well with the band and am coming up on my one year anniversary and have nothing to show for it except for the few faint scars. I also understand the fear of gaining weight after a big loss as this has happened to me a few times. Finding someone who deals with eating disorders and women may be helpful to you before freaking out and spending money you don't have on another surgery. Good luck to you Nanook:smile:.
