How common is it to have your band removed?
Nanook replied to AlexToriMom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine was removed after 14 months due to the fact it was not an effective weightloss method for me and also I developed acid reflux issues and a possible hiatal hernia. Don't know the actual stats though, sorry, Nancy. -
Is an esophagram the same thing as an endoscopy, because I have to have that done now due to my reflux/hernia? I had mine removed last month but did not get a revision or another lap band afterwards. I had the same five incisions though a little to the side so they're a bit wider now and never had the gas pain as I did with the first surgery. The removal of the port didn't cause that much pain either but I was also given much better pain meds because I didn't have a lap band so maybe that had something to do with it. But my recovery was much easier after removal and it was out-patient. But like I said before I didn't get a second lap band so that would make a difference. Good luck to you, Nancy.

Wasa, I'm not going to argue the immigration issue as I know living in the NE it's much different than being in the SW. I just find it amusing that all this talk about illegal immigrants and then I see at the bottom of your screen "How to Reach A Mexican Surgeon". I don't know why I just find it funny!

To remove the band or not??? PLEASE HELP!
Nanook replied to vampyrekiss's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Vamp...., First sorry to hear your husband lost his job and I hope things can turn around for the both of you soon! I think there are a couple of types of people on the band. At least three. There are those that get the band and complain that at 9 cc's that they have no restriction and can eat whatever they want even bread. Then there are the types like me and possibly you where just having the band in place without a fill gives you restriction and it's really tricky to get to a "happy place" with the band. I ended up having mine removed because I ate around the band and gained weight instead of losing because I couldn't eat anything else. But then I started getting acid reflux issues which seemed to be band related and they removed it in the beginning of October of this year. I still have those issues just not as frequently. Then there are those who appear to live with the band and do what the band was intended to do and lose the weight and don't seem to have all the other issues and they are the lucky ones. Now I was only banded for about 14 months but I did notice after it was removed that my stomach had shrunk enough to not eat as much as I had before banding. I can't eat those large plates of food or two. I have more of a sense of fullness now that I hadn't had in a long time. I don't know how long it will last but I have lost some of the weight that I gained after getting banded so it's not all bad. I'm hoping to try to eat healthy and listen to my body about fullness and I should be ok. Also the pain was not as bad as the original surgery but I had the same amount of incisions. The port removal is the sorest part but honestly that wasn't too bad either and I didn't have those bad gas pains that you get when you get the surgery. You still have to be careful about lifting etc...but without having any major complications I healed rather quickly. Anyway just sharing my situation with you as everyone is different but I was glad to get rid of the band because of the fact that it wasn't working the way it was intended to and I'm feel much better now. So good luck to you and I wish you and your family well, Nancy.:smile2: -
I read where she is getting healthy through exercise and they have her on a specific diet program that is out of Georgia. I know she doesn't want WLS but she isn't bashing it are you talking about people just chatting on a forum there?

Real Life Sex Educator Here---Feel Free to Ask Questions!
Nanook replied to cattoy71's topic in The Gals' Room
I don't know if this has been brought up yet but I've seen on those plastic surgery shows where they inject something in your G spot to enlarge it or sensitize it somehow. I think it was expensive around $1,000. Anyone else heard of that. I'm no expert in the G myself but always willing to learn more! -
But seriously, I know the uterus is a tough muscle but how many can one woman have without it taking a toll on her body? I mean I grew up with a Catholic mom who believed in not practicing birth control but she only went up to 5 before her uterus gave out!

That's a good one Julia!

I won't argue points about having sex with animals, children etc..as that is pretty silly to me to compare them with gays having legal marriage in this country and says more about someones ignorance anyway. I did happen to watch a show the other night that was on HBO. It was a film about Rosie O'Donnell's cruise that she had a few years ago for gay families. Mainly they were gay couples who had children. I'm not sure why most of these parents appeared to be really loving parents but maybe it had to do with the fact that they knew it was more difficult for them to have even gotten that far and being able to have families something some people take for granted. Anyway there was a couple who had four children the parents were two gay men. They were about to be married on the cruise. They were asked if they were excited about it and they said yes but were surprised more about the effect it had on their kids. Their kids were really excited that they were getting married because they knew that most of their friends parents were married and they wanted their parents married too. I don't know if I was able to come across with the story as well as I had seen it on the program but it just shows that it's not just the adults who want to marry but it's their children too who find this to be so important in their lives also, Nancy:smile:

Mrs. FF I couldn't even finish reading your posting because I found it so annoying and heartless. You cannot compare apples to oranges. We're talking about two adult human beings not a child, not an animal, not 400 hundred people. And if you're talking about relatives marrying all you have to do is look at the British Royal family. Gay people are born just like you and me except for the fact that instead of having an attraction to the opposite sex they have it with the same sex. It's so simple yet you make it so complicated and I don't understand why you have an issue with it. Just like Keith O. said at one time blacks and whites were not allowed to marry and blacks when they were slaves were not allowed to marry either. It seems to me that the people of the US have made plenty of mistakes before and when it comes to Gay Marriage it is making another. Nancy:smile: As for the group of protesters if your rights were being violated you'd be angry too!!!!!!!

Good luck to you GAbandedgirl, it will be here before you know it. Is there any pain with band erosion? I still have my chest pains even with my band out which is reflux but never had an endoscopy done prior to removal just an upper GI. I see my primary next week so we'll see if he'll just put me on meds for the reflux. Anyway good luck to you band erosion sounds like a scary thing! Nancy:smile:

I think it works for her because the more kids she has the more kids she has taking care of the new babies. I think the eldest boy is married now. They're very happy people so something is working for them.

Speaking of va jay jay all their names start with "j". She must have started having kids at 20 and is about 30 something now and is pregnant with #18. But I'd never heard of this "modest wear" before, I just call them fat bathing suits, all this time I've been wearing modest wear and didn't know it!

Speaking of submitting to your hubby! I don't think this woman has ever had a period!

I swear not to be rude but this woman must have a swinging door on her va jay jay!

Ok, I feel like I've been living in a bubble. I know I think I know so much but I'm watching this show on Discovery Health called "17 Kids and Counting" and it's about a fairly young couple who have 17 children, I believe it has something to do with their Christian faith. Anyway the part that flew me for a loop was they were showing swimsuits that they have and they're called "modest wear swimsuits". I have never heard of this before and it freaked me out. I had my daughter look them up on the internet and she did. OMG, I'm freaking. Am I the only one who has never heard of modest wear swimwear before? Nancy
-
Wow, I never knew "real" people who denied that the Holocaust actually existed. My daughter told me in Germany it's against the law to deny it's existence.

I personally had been put in the hospital two weeks prior for chest pains but it was reflux. Saw my surgeon afterwards a few days later and his coordinator put it in for approval and it was approved fairly quickly. I don't know if it was a combo of reflux and the fact that I wasn't losing weight but gaining etc... but it was approved. Good luck to you, Nancy.

Does this mean she's not going to beat us up with her bible verses anymore?

Mac, I believe Keith expressed the very same thoughts I have on the matter and thanks for bringing it to our attention even if you aren't a Keith Olbermann fan it was worth a listen! Thanks Nancy:smile:

Good catch luluc, Mass and Conn are the only states that allow gay marriage now.
