    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Surgery in the morning as well. 6am report time. Not really nervous. Was rather calm all day minus one issue with the surgeon's office. Debating taking a laxative tonight so I can have one final BM in the morning before surgery. Bag is packed. Still only one friend knows. Brother taking me in for surgery, but he doesn't know which surgery and he doesn't usually get in my business. And he keeps stuff to himself. Just took my final "before surgery pic" in work clothes. Have not weighed myself since starting the pre-op diet. I guess I will know my weight at the hospital in the morning. Drinking a LOT of water today. This weekend was the first time I actually thought about food during all this. I think I messed up yesterday by thinking about food losses and eating a treat. That triggered thoughts about food. I haven't been hungry during the 2 week pre-op diet. And I liked the protein shakes, until today. So, my advice - dont cheat at the very end, lol. And my dental issues finally got resolved so I feel more comfortable presenting for surgery tomorrow without concerns about dental issues and anesthesia. Sorry for the book. I haven't told many people so this is the place that I get to share about my journey.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I used the chewable Senokot. Two at night. BM happened in the morning. Woohoo! And again the following morning. Woohoo! But, nothing this morning. So, I will give it a shot again tonight. Just trying not to go into surgery already constipated since I know I have that to look forward to after surgery. Hahhaha. Not trying to start that off early. Hahhaha

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Congrats! I'm guessing that your program will inform you soon about how long your pre-op diet should last and their specific guidelines for that diet. There is a huge range reported by folks on here. Some folks reported that their program advised them of a specific diet for just a day or two while others are one week, two weeks, or I've even seen some reporting three weeks. Plus, the guidelines for each diet varies a lot also. Each surgeon/program seems to have their own recommendations.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

This is our month! I think we have someone in our group who had an April 2 surgery date. So, that's today! A few of us are April 6 and 7, so early next week. I'm not sure why I had the bright idea to have a wisdom tooth extracted the week before surgery. Hmmm, brain oversight I guess. It's not healing as.the dentist predicted and the pain is a bit much. It's been goin on for a full 7 day week! I'm focused on trying to keep my mouth clean and doing the best I can this weekend to help myself stay healthy and free of an infection so I can have surgery next week. Smh. Why did I do that...

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Thank you. I'm back on board and feeling confident. Surgery April 6. Picked up my post-surgery medications today. Hospital bag is packed. House is cleaned 75%. My hospital gave me wipes to clean myself off after bathing for 5 days. My goodness. 5 full days. So, starting tomorrow. COVID test scheduled for Friday. Getting closer, step by step.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hi everyone, sorry, this might be a TMI question. For those of you who have started the pre-op diet, is constipation an issue for you? I have not had a BM in the past few days. It does not feel like regular constipation because I'm not having any bloating or pain or anything unpleasant. I just know that I have not had a BM. And my pre-op diet includes some actual food. I can have one healthy meal for dinner. I have one protein shake for breakfast and one for lunch. Then a meal for dinner. I had a cup of the Smooth Move tea last night in Hope's that this morning I would have a BM, but nope, nothing. Hmmm. I've read about this happening after surgery and I'm mentally ready for that, but I did not read anything about it happening before surgery. Any thoughts?

    Date Suggestions

I know this is an older post but I think it is a great topic. Resurrecting so newer readers can find it. I think food is the center of social life for so many that this topic is very important. There are options and they can be a great fit for our goals of living healthier lives while also strengthening relationships. Thanks
  13. Bringing this thread back to life. I'm in the pre-op diet. It's only been a few days and I have what I call a chemical taste in my mouth. It's like the nasty taste you yet sometimes when swallowing a pill but it dissolves some before you can get it down. Like a nasty pill taste. A chemical taste is how I can best describe it. On my pre-op diet, I drink 2 protein shakes and can have a healthy dinner. Just like the original poster, I noticed the taste when drinking water and thought it was the water. But, with multiple new bottles of water, it's still there. Brushing my teeth and mouthwash dont fix it either. But, when I eat real food, I dont taste it. I looked up ketosis because I remembered reading about that on here. But, I was shocked that it could happen so soon and since I am eating a dinner meal with food versus drinking shakes for all three meals. Does it sound like this could be keto breath already? Just seems fast to me.

@WanderingHeart Do you have to use special soap, body wash, or wipes before your surgery? I was given wipes. I've seen people report using soap or body wash the night before and the night of. My program seems to be a little different.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Oh no. I wonder what's causing the nausea and headaches. You're getting two protein drinks, two lean proteins/meats, and non-starchy veggies in each day? Sounds like a lot of substance for one day. Hope it gets better for you. One more week to go. Then the weeks after surgery of course. Maybe TMI, but no BM the past few days. I'm guessing that's because I'm eating less, maybe. I'm surprised that I'm not experiencing discomfort. Taking a chewable assistance today before bed to hopefully help on the morning. If not, I will crack open the box of recommended tea that I bought for post-surgery constipation that most folks mention. Other than that I have moments of head hunger, but not as much now as I did when starting this pre-op diet process. Funny but not funny, I got a wisdom tooth pulled Friday. So, my desire to try to cheat is limited since my mouth is tender, I can only chew on one side, and I prefer soft foods. Man, this has been good practice for the first few weeks post surgery. I'm only eating soft foods and tiny pieces. I prefer protein drinks because I dont want to trigger pain. Hahhaha Also, do you have a chemical or chalky like taste in your mouth? I kind of is like the.taste you have when trying to swallow a pill but it dissolves some before you swallow. That nasty pill taste. I noticed it Sunday. Very annoying. I keep brushing and using Listerine, but it's there all day until I eat the actual food. Makes water taste disgusting when I'm drinking all day. Shakes are ok. Once I eat real food, I'm fine. But, I dont eat real food untol dinner. So all day water tastes horrible. Can't be keto breath already, right? Seems odd. Sorry for always typing a novel. Hahaha

I wonder if your gynecologist sees a lot of women with PCOS and they are the ones mainly getting the surgery. Interesting. Great point about gynecologists. Yes, on this site, many people say that even with the initial challenges, they are glad they had the surgery. Well, after those challenges subsides, hahahaha.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

April is almost here? How is everyone in early April doing with the pre-op diet? I'm finding that it's not as hard as I expected. I think that's because my programs allows one meal. I drink 2 protein drinks and one healthy meal each day. The protein drinks really fill me up. Water is 64 ounces. But, I've worked on getting 80 each day. The last two days, I'm aiming for 100. They recommend the more water the better.closer to surgery. Ordering a heating pad today. I don't own one and folks say they are helpful. I'm getting an inexpensive one. How's everyone doing with preparing?

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Thanks so much! The visit with the surgeon was nice. The nurse who did my vitals before I met with him was so excited for me when she started. She normalized my nervousness. Talked about complications being rare, real, but mostly rare. My BP was high. Anxiety triggered for sure. Then the surgeon came in and normalized my anxiety as well. He quizzed me on risis and benefits and my expectations. I got a 95 on the quiz, lol. Well, maybe a 97. I missed just o e part of a three part question. Then he answered all my questions which were mostly about possible complications. Tonight I realized that although we talked about him fixing the small hiatal hernia that he found, I did not ask him about acid reflux. So, I sent a message to him. His nurse usually chats with him about the questions and then sends a reply. So, overall, the appointment was goos. Then I had my follow up Cardiology appt to go over my echo results which we did as part of pre-op. The NP met with me to just review the results. She was awesome. The actual cardiologist is great too, but I didn't see her today. The NP normalized the anxiety. Talked with me about the benefits of the surgery. And we talked about me not looking at anymore videos are reading stories online that trigger the nervous about possible complications. Overall, feeling much better. Thanks for the support from everyone!
  19. Hi there, how was your surgery? How are you doing? Did the surgeon fix the hernia?
  20. How long ago was your surgery? Do you have any avid reflux?

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Thank you. Yes, my worry is about possible side effects and complications. I want to be educated so I'm not going in blind, but I think all that education is getting to me again. That happened a couple weeks ago and it was able to pass. Its rearing its ugly head again. I think the grief is also impacting me. Again, thanks for your reply.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Oh no. Last night I went to bed with some nervousness. Today I woke up with doubt. Saying stuff to myself like 'do you really have to do this' and 'can't I fix this without having a surgery's? I meet with the surgeon today for my pre-op appointment with him. This is the final pre-op appointment. I met with the hospital last week and had the pre-op class last week. Maybe after I talk with the surgeon, my doubts will reduce. Although worry thoughts are creeping in about him as well. Feeling very nervous now. Stomach is getting upset. Im not feeling excited lately. I'm second-guessing the necessity of having WLS. Surgery is April 6 - just over one week away. I don't like feeling this way. 🙁
  24. I'm resurrecting an older thread as I am curious to see what current responses to this question will be as I prepare for surgery. For people who are taking multiple supplements, did you have a bypass or a sleeve? In the pre-op meeting last week, we were only advised to purchase a multivitamin. There were 6 options that they recommend for the multivitamin. Most of us selected the option that only required one pill versus a separate one for Iron and calcium. We need to take 4 of that one multivitamin a day. Two in the morning and two in the evening. I am taking a couple things now, before surgery, like BP med, hair, skin, nails pill, and a weekly Vitamin D. Will see what happens with those 2 post surgery. Reading here that some people are taking 8 - 12/14 pills a day is concerning. Maybe those are mainly for folks with a bypass. I'm getting the sleeve surgery. How many pills are folks with a sleeve taking?
  25. I'm preparing for surgery. I live alone so food portion has been a challenge. I can eat as much as I want. I like to cook in bulk because i don't like cooking every day. With having a pouch, I plan to use my small glass containers for storing food. Cook smaller amounts. Divide it out based on ounces in each container to use for a few days. I'm ok with eating leftovers. Just have to see what my new pouch will like and not like.
