Any April 2021 surgeries?!
Blueslily replied to KidaandRoux's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While in the hospital, ice chips and cold water made me vomit. Once I figured out that was the culprit, I stopped drinking cold water. Being nauseous and vomiting is no fun. Surgery was April 6. I'm very willing to not drink cold water for a while. I'm 1.5 weeks out and haven't had cold anything since figuring out it was the reason why I spent my entire first day and the morning of the second in such an unpleasant state. -

Ok. I wonder if it's too much too fast. I know all programs are different. I had my surgery the day after you and I am not allowed to eat what you're eating for another 10 days. Like eggs are Stage 3 for me. And Stage 3 happens at 3 weeks post surgery. Basically, one week post surgery you are allowed to eat purree which I wonder is just too much for your new tummy. For me, surgery April 6, I had one week of clear liquids. Then starting on Day 8 after surgery, I transition to full liquids which is called Stage 2 for us. I stay on that for two weeks. I dont move to Stage 3 which is limited soft foods until 3 weeks post surgery. Again, all programs are different. Lots of folks talk about their different programs on here. But, I just wonder if your healing tummy is not ready for that kind of intake that you are introducing now. Plus, stage 2 in my program is only 1/4 cup which is 2 ounces of anything on our really tiny list that is not thin liquid. I think a half cup that you mentioned eating now might be 4 ounces. Might be a tad much for your healing tummy. -

Ok. At just 2 days post surgery, I was up walking during the middle of the night also. Walking to help with the gas pains. Not really about my incisions. It was gas pain or body discomfort. But, it did get better as time went on. I expected some sleep issues given what I read during researching the surgery so I wasnt too upset about it. I actually thought I would be sleeping even less. I just walked around d the house in circles during the middle of the night. Hahaha -

Do you mean that you cant sleep for more than 2 hours in any position at all OR just not in your preferred position? I was not sleepy at all the first or second night at home. I propped myself up with pillows in bed and slept just a couple hours. Not due to pain, but just not sleepy. Then hours increased as the days went on, but it wasnt due to incisions. I actually didnt feel anything from my incisions. I did have some discomfort if I tried to sleep on my sides or if I laid down flat too long. But, it was more like internal discomfort and stomach discomfort, not external incisions. Now I am 10 days post surgery. I can sleep on my right side comfortably. NOT on my left though. And that seems opposite of many people on here. Also, my biggest incision is on my right. Seems odd that I feel more discomfort on the left when sleeping. I can sleep all night sometimes, but other days I wake up and have to walk or shift in bed. Like prop myself up. -

Do a quick search on this site plus talk with your WLS team. Its helpful to know what dumping is before having surgery so you will know how to prevent it. -

Anyone have a tender/sore throat just when swallowing? Seemed to not start until a few days after surgery. So, I didnt think it was the pain that some people feel in response to that thing that they put down our throat to measure for the sleeve. Believe me, I thought about COVID, but I shook my head. I'm vaccinated and haven't been running the streets since surgery, hahahaha -

Wow, you are taking in a lot of fluids. Congrats! -
How about Tom Yum Soup also? I'm hoping to pick up some this weekend to give it a try. No spice. I'm a bit concerned about the tomato element, but I will try a couple spoons of it.

We all have such different programs. For me, it's the following: 1 week of clear liquids 7 days total 2 weeks full liquids which allows me to add yogurt, cream soups, and apples (with 30 mins gaps for water) 14 days total 3 weeks soft or what I guess you guys call purree (with 30 mins gaps for water) 21 days total So, for each stage, it increases in duration (one week long, 2 weeks long, 3 weeks long) Then at 6 weeks post surgery, full foods with certain requirements and at the size limits set and 30 mins before and after water -

I had the water issue initially in the hospital. When I switched to room temperature water, it stopped. Maybe try a different temperature for your water. -

When you say 64oz of liquid, do you mean 64 oz of water PLUS ounces of additional liquids like protein drinks, broth, etc. On top of the 64 oz of water? During my first week, my 64 oz included all liquids total. So, it was not 64 oz of water plus broth, shakes, etc. Just asking for clarification. Also, I on full liquids now. Not purree yet. I was told to stop when I receive any initial sign of restriction. -

Hello all, sorry for being MIA. Had the sleeve April 6. Did not really feel up to being on the site the first week. Stayed one extra day in the hospital due to nausea and pain that I realized later in the first day was due to cold stuff. I mentioned that to the nurses initially that I wasnt sure a out sucking on the ice chips. It's ok. At home, I had some gas pains. Walked and felt better. I feel better when walking versus sitting. Had one night that I wasnt sleepy at home. But, other than that, sleep is ok. First week, woke up a few times during middle if night due to tummy feeling uncomfortable. Did some walking in the house and repositioned. Had one week of clear liquids. No problem. Got in the water and shakes starting 2nd day at home. But, when I started full liquids two days ago, seems harder to get everything in. Mainly just due to me having other stuff to do like follow up doc appts and so forth. I find that I need to stay on schedule because I cant catch up if I do t get it in earlier during the day. I think I feel some hunger, but again that's when i haven't gotten in enough earlier. But, i think my stomach also has so.e gas if empty so i feel that and hear some gurgling. Yes, had gas pains for a few days. Walked to help. They were like traveling pains on my side and in my back. Only had one BM so far. On day 8 post surgery, I started to feel some pressure like I needed to have a BM. Ate some chewable Selokot that night. BM the next morning. That was yesterday. No BM today. Surgeon had said it might be a few days post surgery so i wasnt freaked out about it. But, when i went i for my first post-OP appt on the morning of Day 8, the NP was like yes, take something. 4 days is understandable. But, not 8 days. I will say that the afternoon if day 7, exactly one week postOP, it's like I turned a curb. I felt an increase in energy and could move easier. The next morning, morning of post op appt, I used that energy to do a little stuff at home. Well, within an hour, I was dragging. When my brother arrived ti drive me to the doc appt, I was having a hard time walking..lesson learned- just because I feel a little boost of energy does not mean that recovery is done. "Sit your butt down" is the advice that I was given. Hahahaha. Overall, doing ok. Just need to stay on track so I can get everything in. Oh, I was supposed to start my multivitamins Wed, but they arrive Monday. Bummer. I ordered everything in advance, but this one thing was later. On full liquids for two weeks. Seems not as easy as week 1 full liquids. Not sure why. -

Same here. No cold at all. Each morning, I put items on my kitchen counter that I will need for the day. So, it just sits there and gets room temperature. I'm on Stage 2 now which includes yogurt. I leave yogurt out for a little while also. It's still safe, but I cant eat it cold. In the hospital, I vomited each time I ate ice chips or drano cold water. Lesson learned. Cost me an extra day in the hospital due to the nausea and vomiting. -

Morning all, Today is my surgery day. Just got dressed in my super cute surgery gown, lol. So far, feeling calm. Not nervous actually. But hungry! First time. But, it's due to my own issue. I was so focused on drinking extra water that I forgot to drink my last protein shake. Nurses getting me ready are great. -

It's ok. Totally understandable. Might as well go and see what happens. Try not to stress too much tonight as that wont help you during surgery. All the best! 👍🌞 -
