    Any March Surgeries?

“struggled hard with the anesthesia which kept me nauseous for a solid 48 hours.” Did they give you anti nausea medicine? I have bad reactions with anesthesia too. I didn’t mention to the anesthesiologist once and I felt like you described. It was horrible. Now every surgery I let the anesthesiologist know and they are able to add anti nausea medicine to the drip or whatever they are doing and I have not had issues post surgery.

Making the surgery choice, which one?

Sounds like there’s so many benefits to the miniGB. I’ve been vitamin D deficient for most of my life. I don’t know much about miniGB. But sounds like it was really successful!

Awesome!!! Congratulations and best wishes for quick recovery. 5 days to go for me. Just think, You’ll be 4 days post op and over the worst of it by the time I go for surgery!

Making the surgery choice, which one?

Aahhhh. Music to my ears! And why this site is such a godsend. Being able to dine out normally! thank you for that perspective! and my program recommends supplements for both surgeries but It seems more critical for GB because there is such decreased area for absorption to occur. I am a terribly forgetful pill taker so I have been focusing on improving that these past months. In preparation. I hear some lucky few are able to get their nutrients without need of pills. But it seems rare.

Spicy Soup 1 week post op

I am pre-op and just found gochujang. Added it to Fire & Kettles beef broth to spice it up with some sesame oil and soy sauce. Gave it just the flavor I was craving without having to break the diet. i will try the other spices you mentioned. Thanks!!

    Night time munching

Thanks for the great suggestions. Funny how different pre- surgery diets are. I don’t think cream cheese and PB are on my pre-op or maybe only in small amounts. these are great post wls options too. Also Greek yogurt with ranch seasoning as a dip for cukes, carrots etc.

Making the surgery choice, which one?

I have 150+ to lose, am pre-diabetic with hbp and periodic reflux. I was thinking sleeve because the idea of malabsorption scares me and the need for supplements feels restrictive. And i am afraid that I will not enjoy dinners out and even have difficulty getting enough macros in with the small pouch. but I have a lot to lose and felt “in for a penny, in for 150 lbs.” 😉 I also like that it is reversible (technically) if I have serious problems. I have been wavering since the beginning too, but am settled on the GB as the best option for successful long term outcome. my surgeon did not push one over the other, but clearly agreed that GB was a better option for me once I indicated I was leaning in that direction. surgery is 3/26 and I just want to be 6 mo post op already!! good luck. I think either choice will get us to a much healthier place.

Ok. Dream wardrobe. I think I’d buy every one of your outfits. My main goal is to just feel better in 6-12 months. But wearing such stylish clothes again is very appealing too!

Friend saw me for the first time in 3 months...

Jealousy is one word to describe your friends’ reactions. But they are likely also uneducated. i was not going to tell anyone pre-op except my parents and only cuz they are going to be helping care for my daughter ( and me) post op. But I ended up telling a friend because we got into the topic of how discouraging weight loss has been for so long- she is probably in the low 200’s vs me who went from 245 to 300 in 5 years. Her initial reaction was as I had feared. Too drastic, not always successful, dangerous, and it’s just “calories in, calories out “...exactly my feelings too just 6 months ago. But explaining the reset you get with wls and biochemical change that happens, she appreciated both that I had done my research and that maybe she didn’t fully understand wls- and I am doing what is best for me even if she still doesn’t agree. For sure your friends feel they are losing a comrade- I know I have felt that divide when a friend has lost weight and I felt left behind cuz I couldn’t hike, ride bikes, go to the beach like she was doing. And don’t get me started about her dating life. Maybe having a heart to heart to air out your feelings and the medical basis for why this is not a decision for vanity’s sake, they will reassess their behavior and try to be supportive. if not, they will probably be too toxic to be with while you are doing probably the best thing for yourself...I find therapists invaluable when I feel I can’t talk to friends. good luck and hope you find support from them or others. But find that support wherever you can.

    Any March Surgeries?

Hi all Started this process with a consult in October 2020. Just got cleared with GBP surgery scheduled March 26 - I was so happy to get scheduled so quickly after clearance. but still scared as hell, not for the surgery but the 6-12 month post op adjustment. So glad for this site. Reading as much as I can on the web to feel as prepared as possible. Is anyone else feeling exhausted - I am guessing it’s just the pre-op diet.

    Pre-op advice from a PostOp'er

Getting used to this site so sorry for quote error. Thanks for this great suggestion. I heard the same from my behavioral health too but am really struggling to get my Water even above 40 oz. your post is great motivation. I’ll keep trying and just make that my focus (my Protein is quite high and not an issue).

Keeping surgery a secret? What did you tell others?

I think it stems from the same bias I had . That weight loss is simply about discipline with diet and exercise. But it was only recently I began to believe something more is at play, explained by some good doctors who actually understand and expressed compassion instead of making me feel shame. Like others here, I don’t want my decision to be a topic of conversation, or to be defined by it. But I also agree with the comment that at some point, I hope, I will be so happy with my decision that I will not care about anyone who might judge how I did it. (Love this site BTW. - love hearing everyone’s own thoughts and ideas ).

    Trash Article- Venting.

In retrospect, I wish my doctor had said that when suggesting bariatric. I suppose they don’t want to overprescribe surgery, but it is important for physicians to understand the shame and guilt that comes with obesity and provide more context when recommending WLS.

    Trash Article- Venting.

Thanks for this. I wish I had considered this long ago. Instead, I dismissed doctors who suggested even back then that I might consider bariatric surgery. Even then I was very active and ate very healthy but could not get below the 220 mark. But I just assumed it was my fault and lack of discipline. So Instead I have continued to ratchet up. Only recently, desperate and as a last effort I attended an informational session. Now I actually think this is the only way I could get down to a reasonable weight. I am so anxious but hopeful for the first time in a long time.
