    Whats the hold up....

My insurance pretty much gave me this surgery for free with no catch (i.e. no minimum weightloss, or comorbidities necessary), and I'm relatively young so I barely needed any tests. BUT it still took me 6 months, probably due to COVID, but also every department related to Bariatrics is honestly so antiquated. I've been through the process in NY and Boston and it's always been 5-6 months.

Spicy Soup 1 week post op

If the spice is from an acidic source (vinegar/lime) I would avoid it. But, if you're using literal spices that's totally fine! My surgery was on 2/22 and most dishes I've eaten have some form of spice. My tastes sway more Asian so I usually add homemade chili oil to wonton soup broth, togarashi to ramen broth, gochujang or gochujaru to vegetable/mushroom broth. The only time I didn't have spice was last week because I had some stomach pain, but it turned out to be a pinched stitch, so no biggie!

Making the surgery choice, which one?

I'm 24 (F) with no comorbidities and I went RNY because my sister had VSG 3 ish years ago and her weightloss has all but stalled. Also, I have 130-ish lbs to lose. Many factors played into this choice. I factored in my work (academia aka student for life i.e. sedentary M-F) and lifestyle (mostly active on weekends), and we decided that the RNY would be the best tool for me. I'm only 3.5 weeks out so I can't offer an educated opinion on my choice (especially during a stall), but if you have a lower BMI then I would say VSG is much more accommodating and still quite effective. However, there aren't as many long term studies on VSG so 7-10 years out is no man's land.
  4. Hi all! I'm 24 and my surgery is 02/22. I'm kind feeling isolated, being younger and making such a drastic lifestyle change. Everyone my age in my life can't relate to this so I wanted to reach out to some peers! What stage are you at? How will you spend your free time now that food is a fraction of it? Once you're at goal what are looking forward to doing? Those are just suggestions, but feel free time share any and ALL THINGS!!

    Any Bypassers in their 20s?

My birthday is coming up (April 16th) and I've luckily gained a new friend group who are more than happy to do something other than drink and eat on my birthday. Cheers to new healthier lifestyles and all that. I think I'm slowly becoming the girl I daydreamed I would be as a teen 🥺

    Accountability Post

13 days out from surgery 10 lbs down... I haven't been eating. Eating is a hassle. When I do eat I either give up or don't eat the right thing. I don't put me or my staples in danger of course. I'm just not meeting protein requirements in the slightest. I'm writing this post because I know there are a lot of other who feel like they've just been getting it wrong since Week 1 of surgery, and I just want to say that its never too late to turn it around. This isn't like all the other times! I'm not looking for motivation, encouragement, a lecture or anything else. I'm just calling myself out for bad behaviour because I'm a big know-it-all who is miserable, tired, and losing hair. I'm re-commiting myself to toughing it out this week and the coming weeks because I've been on this forum long enough to know that it all passes.

Rereading my post I sound pretty angry, and I was lol! I was angry at myself for not measuring up. Thank you for this.

    Gas pains whew!

I relied on a heating pad for my back and 1000mgs of liquid Tylenol every 8 hours. Walking will help, especially if you're walking uneven terrain, the little bumps help to move it along. Also, I paid my little siblings to give me massage haha and it works!

    February 2021 bypassers?

Hey! Have you prepped any recipes for purees? I prepped avocado and beans , gave it a taste tonight and OOF they hit me like a rock. Literally felt like a chainsaw was being ripped through me. And, this is 1/8 teaspoon through sieve. Maybe those just don't agree right now? That's a shame because I'm vegan and was looking forward to relying on those savory staples. Hopefully tofu doesn't do we wrong! I look forward on following your progress since our stats are so close!

    February 2021 bypassers?

Little update! I'm on week 2 and doing full liquids. I'm down 24 pounds altogether, 7 of which are post-op. However, I noticed within the last couple of days that the weightloss has stalled and I've been hovering between 286-287. I've been losing and Seems pretty early for a stall right? I've been losing and regaining the same 1 pound which is annoying. I'm going to up my protein and get moving more! Also, very odd but I have this creeping feeling that my surgery wasn't as... aggressive, compared to others. I can drink tons of water (in sips of course) no problem. It's probably all in my head, but I'll keep with the plan regardless.

    Vivid Food Dream

I'm 5 days post-op and in too much pain to be hungry, but last night I had the most vivid food dream. I was at a vacant apartment but on a table in the apartment was a sandwich I used to make with all of the fixings. Needless to say I ate the entire thing. But, I was post-op in my dream too so I panicked and raced to the store to buy a protein shake? It was apparently Christmas time so I bought an isopure advent calendar because my dream logic said to counteract the effects of junk food I need to chase it with protein? Then the dream ended with me opening each day to reveal a new flavor of protein shake.

    "Before"

Quite possibly the lowest quality before photos out there, but my silly self decided to wait until I had surgery to take pictures.

    Vivid Food Dream

Haha, my dream brain is the remnants of my fat brain so not much nutrition makes sense.

    Vivid Food Dream

Oh no! I hate vivid dreams, they leave me with such longing. I know my food tolerances will be different so I hope my fear of dumping will override my cravings.

    Vivid Food Dream

Wow what a crazy way to find out! Are our food dreams prophetic? Gotta crack the mystery lol

    My goal outfit is/was . . .

Right!!! My personal style has always been minimalist so body (read:bawdy) has been a huge focal point for my personal style. That black dress is EVERYTHING.

    My goal outfit is/was . . .

I have clear visions of what I want to wear! The world better not let me lose weight before the sun comes out because I barely wear clothes as it is 😂
  19. In pain at the hospital, but yesterday was worse. I hope the rest of you 02/22 people are doing well. I'm able to sip and walk around just fine though! They weren't kidding about the gas, it's more painful than the incisions to be honest.

I'm sure we are all sharing the same view today!

I definitely still need Tylenol 😂 but I'm def using less than before which is awesome.
