The band just isn't working for me
kaffenoire replied to JZackary's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Vicki, Thanks for the reply. Congrats on the weight lose. How many fills have you had,and in what period of time? I have now lost 22lbs since march 18th,and I know I need another fill but I tore my achilles tendon ,and I'm in a cast, and on crutches for 8 weeks! I can't imagine trying o go to Tijuana on crutches to get a fill, and my local Dr. doesn't use fluro? I prefer fluro! Do you think I can wait 5 more weeks? Also I've been eating regular food just smaller amounts of it,much smaller! Some say you should be on a special diet, but others say thats the point of the band to learn to eat reg. food in small amts. and still loose wt. whats your take on it? ciao, Yvette -
The band just isn't working for me

Jaime, I am a slow loser too I was banded 3/18/06, and I have only lost 20 lbs. I think that you need another fill. I'm going for my second fill in August, 4months after banding. According to the long term bandsters, if you are not losing 1-2 lbs/week and you are eating right, and exercising, and drinking your Water, then you need a fill. I just started seriously exercising, and I have started losing weight again. Hang in there, and get a fill asap! Yvette -
Joanne, It varies from person to person. It also depends on what you do for a living. If you have to lift, push or pull, you might need more time off. I'm a nurse, and I took off longer because I lift, turn and push patients and machines. Kaffenoire

hey all, Dr. Kuri did tell us that if your stoma is tight in the A.M. then you should try eating your largest meal at your lunch meal, and have a lite dinner,as having a heavy meal in your pouch overnight irritates the stoma, and causes it to swell. Also if you feel tight try a cup of something hot when you first get up like tea, hot lemon water or coffee. I prefer green tea.

3/13/06 5days to go before surgery
kaffenoire commented on kaffenoire's blog entry in kaffenoire's Journal
Time is drawing nearer! I'm scared and I'm excited. I'm more concerned abt. some of the side effects, like getting sick in public, and PBs. I just hope that I can get these things right so that I won't have so much trouble. Just seems like a lot to remember, all of the dos and don'ts. Its getting late, I'd better get some sleep! -

Very emotional about decision to get banded
kaffenoire replied to free101girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Is anyone having surgery in T.J. on 3/18/06 with Dr. Kuri? I will be having surgery then and would like to meet others who may be having surgery that day. -
Hi Bridget, I was all setup to go to Dr. Joya, and I too read some info. online about him that made me a little nervous. Research back to 2003! I read that he had some problems with infections, and a few other things, he also allegedly failed to respond to the patients in a favorable manner. And his coordinator also tried to allegedly blame the pt. Check it out for yourself! So my thoughts were that even though he has done several bands since then, with few complaints, being a nurse I just didn't want to take a chance with my life. No amount of money is worth it. So I have chosen to go to Dr. Kuri as he is not as expensive as Dr. Rumbaut. Dr. Rumbaut has very high overhead which is why his surgery is more expensive. Dr. Kuri is in a new facility now and has not raised his prices, at least not yet! From my research I have found that the top three Drs. are Rumbaut, Kuri, and Ortiz! The choice is yours, but whatever you do don't let money be the deciding factor, I almost made that mistake! If you are financing it , it will only be a few more dollars per month! I'm having surgery on 3/18/06, wish me luck! Kaffenoire

Very emotional about decision to get banded
kaffenoire replied to free101girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I too have been having emotional battles concerning getting banded. I am scheduled to get my band in Tijuana on 3/18/06, and I was asking myself "Am I taking the easy way out? Why can't you just exercise like most people?" But I realized one thing obesity is a disease! And all disease processes need a treament, not just a bandaid like some of these other diets that I have been on. My other battle is what am I going to tell people when they ask why I am losing so much weight? I can't decide if I want others to know that I have been banded? I guess it's because it will look like I took the easy way out! I don't know which way to go with this, can someone help or relate? Kaffenoire
