Edibles after surgery...
XtinaDoesIt replied to XtinaDoesIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 8 weeks out and I'm sure they are prob not ok with it it. But it was my sister's wedding and I decided for myself that I needed some fun to stay sane. I survived and I'm back to my normal doc approved diet. On a side note, I actually kept up with my diet on the trip most of the time. The only time I ate a large amount of food was after the gummies. That's really why I gave that warning. I didn't really drink that much either. My self control has definitely improved and I was able to get right back to my pre vacation habits as soon as I came back. -
Hi Marie, I actually just posted about this! I am only 8 weeks out and I had an edible on vacation. It was kind of nuts for me. I felt it intensely. I didn't really like it and I had a small piece. But for reference, I don't really take edibles often. I ate a lot and slept a lot on them. I feel like if I took them often it would definitely slow my progress.

HA HA! Yeah, I cant wait for this to be my problem. lol. I do hate when people comment on my weight but for me it's usually my mom saying I've gained weight or to say I look smaller when I know its not true. I can't wait for it to be true! I'm losing now but I don't look much smaller than I did before. I will say that I do not believe you are "too sensitive." Feel how you feel! Women (including me) often dismiss our feelings with phrases like that. Instead, I find it helpful to examine why I feel that way.

I had my surgery on 2/8 and have been losing pretty slow as well. You aren't alone. This month I've only lost like 6 lbs. Honestly, I think it's because all of the restrictive dieting I've done before. My body might be used to it. I think we just have to wait it out. There are so many positive stories about people who lost weight slow and still met their goals at the end of year one. I'm focusing on that. I figure even if I lose 5-10 lbs a month I cant still meet my goal in a year. On a positive (not so positive) note, I went on vacation last week, and wasn't so health conscience and I didn't gain any weight either. Seems my stall works both ways.

Starting my journey
XtinaDoesIt replied to Janecoda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is also my experience. I had to have 3 spaced out visits with the dietician over a 3 month span for my insurance. My friend needed to have 12 visits but didn't have any restriction on the time in between. We are using the same clinic. My surgeon said it just depends on your insurance. -
So exciting! I wish you well!!!!!

3 week stall...I guess
XtinaDoesIt replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing this! In my head I figured the first 3 months were an indicator of how the rest of the process is going to go. Minus my preop weight loss, I've lost 18 lbs so far, a month and a half in... BUT it does look like I might have broke my second stall (YAY), down again this morning. -
I didn't even know cake batter flavoring was a thing!

3 week stall...I guess
XtinaDoesIt replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I def understand. I'm 7 weeks in and stalled for 4 of them. Lost weight the first 2 weeks... stalled for 3 weeks... lost again the week after... been stalling for 10 days now... I was down .5lbs this morning. Crossing my fingers that I've broken this stall and will drop another 7-10 lbs like a did last time. We all know stalling is normal but it still SUX! It's hard not to start comparing when you read post about people who meet their goals in 6 months. I feel like if the first 3 months are when I'm supposed to lose the most weight... its going to take some time before I reach my goal. My only positive thought is that losing weight slower might lead to less loose skin... hopefully... and since I didn't tell anyone about the surgery, I guess it looks more natural this way... sigh... Sending good vibes your way! Hopefully your stall won't be as long as mine! -
Starting my wls journey but I dislike the dietitian at the clinic.
XtinaDoesIt replied to lussa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont love my dietician either. She is nice and all but I don't find anything she says particularly beneficial. When I ask her about certain bariatric snacks and recipes I see online, she doesn't really know what I'm talking about. She keeps telling me to email her my questions but then takes days to respond. All she does is reiterate things that were in my wls workbook. I'm post op and have to see her everytime I see the doctor (quarterly for the first year). I just smile and nod in her session and thank her for nothing... A friend of mine loves her though... to each their own... -
I was so happy when my 21 day stall was over. I dropped 7 lbs too. One week later, another stall.... But at least I know there will be gold at the end of the rainbow... I hope this one is shorter though...

Alcohol during maintenance??

Hey, what some people call addictive or obsessive behaviors, others call persistent behaviors... I say if it's not causing anyone harm and makes you feel better, persist! -
I was hungry after my surgery (2/8). And hella thirsty. I ate/ drank more in the hospital than I did when I got home. Then my gas pain was getting the best for me and pain overruled hunger. For me it's really been up and down. I have (relatively few) hungry moments. I have also had some cravings in the beginning that I'm pretty much over now. I'm finding that I actually feel less hungry everyday which actually sucks because I want to increase my calories. I def know that feeling! I'm assuming everyone feels empty in the morning. That's why we run to our scales! 😀

Any teachers out there?
XtinaDoesIt replied to Jnfinney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats @Jnfinney! It took about a week and half for it to subside for me. It got better once my gas got better. I'm a stomach sleeper and that part was the worst for me. I still get uncomfortable sometimes sleeping on my tummy. @newyorklady20 sounds like you will be fine! It might actually be nice to have a reason to leave the house. I definitely slacked on my walking after surgery because I didn't have to leave the house. -
At the risk of sounding awful, I'm just going to say, I've ALWAYS hated sharing food! In fact I generally will buy extra snacks so that no one asks me for mine. And when they do anyway, I scream nasty things to them in my head but smile and share anyway. The thing is, I've always been a pretty slow eater. People think that means I don't want my food but I do! For example, I can make popcorn last the entire movie because I eat them one at a time. My boyfriend eats popcorn by the handful and is done by the opening credits. When we share, I've had 10 bites and he has eaten the entire bag! Thus, I get my own popcorn or pretzel bites but then I come off looking selfish or greedy when I don't want to share mine. It's annoying. Or when we go out to eat, I purposely save half my meal until later but most of them time he will ask me if it's OK for him to have it later that night. Anyway, all of this I to say, I see it being way worse now! Lol. I find myself always telling my boyfriend to stop eating my food. I'm going to eat the rest later (maybe! But I should at least have the option). All of these high protein snack are soooo expensive. I brought those bariatric protein reeses cup (yum) but can only eat one at a time. He will eat my second one and have his own set. The box came with 10. They are now done and I only had 3 cups. I'm not supposed to have popcorn yet but I ordered this gourmet bag for charity before my surgery that finally came last Thursday. My nutritionist said I can have them at week 6 and I WAS going to patiently wait for then but my boyfriend asked me to open them to try it out (They were heaven!) He then proceeded to have one serving at a time over the last 2 days and now they're done. I ate more then I should have because I felt like I should atleast have some before they were gone. I feel like arguing about food is sooo petty but it's starting to annoy me. It doesn't help that he did not have the surgery but seems to be losing more weight than me eating/drinking all of my protein! Lol. Im really not mad he is losing weight too but I just feel like he can maybe contribute to purchasing all of these expensive items. It makes it a little harder for me to stay on track when all the things I buy are finished so fast. I'm sipping on plain water as a type this because I didn't realize all the crystal lite was finished! I should just get over myself right? I was the person who generally brought the groceries before surgery. I still buy normal groceries but now also include specific things for me. What do you guys think?

For Something different on liquid diet
XtinaDoesIt replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to use French onion dip in everything! It's my "secret" ingredient! It's soo good in mashed potatoes. But I haven't used any post surgery because I attribute it with my old, taste centered, not so healthy lifestyle. BUT I'll be taking another look at those nutrional facts... -

Is your partner normal weight or heavy? How does this affect you?
XtinaDoesIt replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My boyfriend and I are both obese. We gain weight together and lose weight together. When we are on a health kick we motivate each other and when we are on a spiral, we sabotage each other. I do however feel like it's seems up to me to take charge and keep us on track. That feels daunting and overwhelming at times. Im curious how things will be now that I've had the surgery and he hasn't. So far, he has been on the post surgery diet with me. He has lost more weight than I have. -
If I don't get to "normal weight" in 6 months then I'm going to try some "extreme" methods because I won't "be hungry" ...just kidding.... mostly....

Boyfriend rant about food...
XtinaDoesIt replied to XtinaDoesIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lol! Yeah, I'm in the flip out stage with him now. But then I end up feeling like I'm being selfish or greedy. He is a jokester so he'll make a joke about it but it's one of those jokes where I can tell I might have hurt his feelings a little. He does seem to be getting better... SLOWLY... -

XtinaDoesIt replied to Jnfinney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I teach in New York too (I'm guessing by your name). What age group do you teach? If it's high school, you should be OK. Middle school is a beast so you might need extra time... -
Boyfriend rant about food...
XtinaDoesIt replied to XtinaDoesIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's true. Maybe I'll make an online order with him and allow him to pick his snacks and then we can split it. That way I can say we brought our own snacks. Honestly, the money as not as big of the problem (although it is a factor). It's really just that everything is done when by the time I want some.
