    My surgery was aborted

Gosh this really pulled at my heart. Not the same, but a while back I managed to lose around 30 lbs and had saved enough money for lipo... but the surgeon I was recommended to wouldn't even do it. He said I needed to lose another 20 or so pounds. I was around 200 lbs then. After the months I put into it, it seemed he dismissed me in minutes. It was probably the most depressed I have ever been about my weight. I just cried and cried. The work I already did just felt so little. Needless to say I spiraled and gained all my weight back plus another 50 lbs. Now I am working so hard just to get back to 200lbs. My only words for you is not to give up. Try hard not to live in self pity and shame for too long. It took me 3 years to crawl out of that space and try again. The difference is WLS is soo much more work than lipo. You already committed to this much, you can try again! Maybe with a different surgeon...

Food you used to love now u hate

I loved everything potato before surgery; potato chips, fries, mash, roasted, baked!!! You name it, I loved it! But now I can barely eat five fries and I'm full AND I don't enjoy it so it's not worth it. Chips just taste blah to me whenever I try one... Mash potatoes are still OK but that's about it and I only have a few bites. I still like fried chicken though... but I do find that I can eat less of it then grilled chicken and fried things take FOREVER to digest so I don't make it a habit.

    Menstruation after VSG

My periods have been lighter after surgery. Not sure what that's about but after reading this thread,I won't look a gift horse in the mouth!

    No more body hair?

That's interesting. I haven't noticed body hair loss but my menstrual cycle has been lighter and shorter... like when im on birth control. I'm not on birth control now so I was also wondering if I was experiencing some kind of hormonal shift after surgery as well.

I violate thermodynamics and it's crap

Hey folks! 👋 This thread came back up in my feed. Wondering how you all are doing... Im still losing slowly and stalling most of the time.... almost 4 months out... 30 lbs since surgery... roughly 5-7 lbs a month after the 15lbs I lost month 1.. scared because I seem to lose a little less every month... a friend of mine just did the surgery and is down 30 lbs month 1 😞... happy for her... I guess.. lol
  6. Similar to the towel wrapping... Im still not there but I know how great I'll feel when this happens!

    My goal outfit is/was . . .

I would love to wear dresses without feeling the need to layer it. I'm planning a road trip in August and would just love the extra space in my suitcase!

    Miralax everyday?

I wasn't told to take it but I'm still pretty constipated 3 months out. I can go a week without a movement. So I just added it to my routine from the advice I've received here. Big help. Still not as regular as I want to be but at least my movements aren't painful.

Got the Moderna (3 months post op). I'm fine!
  11. Hi folks! HW: 267 SW: 255 CW: 227 Height: 5'5 Can't believe I'm 3 month out already! I've lost almost 30 lbs since surgery. 40 lbs since January and I feel great! I was stalling A LOT the first 2 month. I've done so much extreme diets in the past, I think my body was used to it and was trying to wait me out. I haven't had any stalls this month though so I think my body is finally giving up on holding my fat cells hostage! LOL! I am eating roughly 700-1000 calories. I still mostly drink my calories with protein shakes/drinks. I usually have yogurt for breakfast, a handful of leftovers for lunch and dinner with protein and veggies or chili. I just started working out again last week. Mostly cardio and Yoga. I am hoping to lose another 30lbs by my birthday (September), then another 30 lbs to my goal by December. I've come to terms with the fact that I didn't dramatically lose a bunch of pounds and my journey is more slow and steady. I haven't brought any new clothes yet but I do feel more comfortable in the clothes I have now. I am thinking its time for some new bras but I want to hold out as long as possible. On a side note, my boyfriend has been so supportive and gone on this weight loss journey with me (without surgery). He is down almost 30 lbs too (MEN!). I think my slower loss keeps him motivated. We are like 3 lbs away from each other and have a mini race going on during our weekly check ins.
  12. I know it's no where near my goal and I've been losing pretty slowly compared to some but I'm finally consistently below 230! That's a big deal to me! Every time I try to lose weight, I always get stuck around 233 and eventually give up. I called it my "normal fat" weight where I don't hate myself. This feels like my first real milestone. 203 is next (my weight after my first year teaching). I've been discouraged since surgery because my weight loss pattern is stalling 80% of the time and losing a few pounds overnight every 2-3 weeks. I'm averaging about 7 pounds a month and I'm still pretty early out. But this is a WIN for me! I think this WILL work for me! It just might take some time. AND I started working out this week. Fingers crossed that it speeds things up (or keeps things going).

    229... my first real milestone

Thanks @NovaLuna! Thats so interesting about your April curse! Maybe you're more stressed in April or something? I need to cut down on sodium but salt is soooo good! lol! My blood pressure is generally high so I so watch it but I'll keep that in mind for my next stall. I don't know why but the last 3 weeks have actually been GREAT for me! I've been losing 2-3 lbs consistently. I'm scared to type this because I don't want to jinx it! I did start working out again last week and I think it really does make a difference. lol! I didnt have too much faith in it helping because I know working out only counts for a small precent of weight loss and I was feeling low energy. But I actually have more energy now that I am working out and eating more. I'm happier and losing more weight. Woop Woop!!! I think my body needed time to adjust. Me: Im going to lose weight. *Does weight lost surgery, eats 600 cal a day* Body: Here she does again. Time to hold on to all the weight until she gives up. I think I can hold out a few months. Body in 3 months: Can't hold out any longer! Must actually burn fat cells!

    229... my first real milestone

Thanks @kristieshannon! That's what I'm thinking as well! I wanted to be averaging like 10 lbs (at least at the beginning) but that's not my journey it seems. Lol. Im a HUGE Greys Anatomy fan and they seem to punish patients that lose weight too fast all the time. Lol! So I guess it OK...

    Protein taste issues

Second this! Also, I find I can have the flavored isopure drinks when I add crystal light to it.
  16. Love this! Lol. Im soooooo tempted to look around for it now... BUT I will practice this new found self control that wls has given me.
  17. My boyfriend brought my engagement ring a month or two back (mom can't keep a secret and told me). I wonder if it will fit when he finally pops the question?! I'm 3 month post surgery...

    Joing a gym

I loved the Y by my old apartment. They also had a family plan so my roommate, her kids and my sister could all visit for a reasonable price. I'm more of a class person than an independent machine person. The planet fitness around me doesn't offer as much classes and can also get really crowded when they offer their promotions. I haven't been to either since covid. I got a peloton instead. Love the classes.
  19. I had the sleeve even though I was on omeprazole for my acid reflux pre-wls. Im only roughly 3 months out and have been OK for the most part. However, I'm not currently drinking or eating the things that gave me reflux before and I'm still taking omeprazole. I forgot to take my pills on a weekend trip and did feel slight reflux after having ricotta bake with extra marinara. I have a feeling my reflux will be back once I'm in eating "normally."
  20. Yeah I remember not wanting to tell my doctors anything that would get me denied. "I never drink, I exercise regularly, sure I did the test for sleep apnea already... etc." It sucked because this was the most medical attention I've ever received but I was too scared to be honest.

AM I MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION 😩

Hi Erikka, I agree with @Jaelzion. I've had a few up and downs since my surgery and find that I can spend hours here whenever I'm feeling down. It's easier to vent than to brag. But even with all the negative post I've written, I still don't regret it. I've lost and gained weight like you in the past and I still fear that even IF I lose the 100 lbs I'm setting out to lose, I'm going to gain it back. I don't have any kids yet (I'm 32) but I'm scared that when I have one, I'll throw away all my progress. But I'm a big believer that you can't let the fear of the unknown keep you from moving forward. If you think you're not ready, that's one thing but if its fear, then I say press on

    CONGRATS!!! Thats awesome!

    Snack

I was advised against popcorn and tried it anyway... and it made me sick! Its the only thing that's made me sick thus far, regretted it immediately! Cucumber and sea salt sounds like a good idea for my salt craving! Thanks!

  25. I am weighing multiple times a day. I weigh myself almost every time I use the bathroom! Lol! I was going to slow down but I actually think it helps me to see my weight flunctuate. It helps me paint a deeper picture then if I were to weigh in once a week. Especially when I am up a pound or 2 because I know that it's not really true. I like to average out my loss in my head. It would be more devastating to do a weekly check up and see my weight go up when it could just be a high water retention day or something. For me to actually consider it weight gain, I tell myself the number has to stay up for at least three days (I do the same with loss). That helps me not go crazy.
