Getting in your protein grams
HealthyLifeStyle replied to skinnyfeelsgood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When just starting out, it is very hard to get to the required goal. I did not even come close. It gets better with time. -
I was told to never chew gum again. It does all the stuff that Creekimp13 says. Its not worth the risk. I have just started eating sugar free mints again. My doc gave the permission at 6 months out. I was told not to eat more than 2 per day.

DUMPING SYNDROME
HealthyLifeStyle replied to DonnaMariaConsuela (MGB)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well times have changed. I went for the 6 month checkup on 2/23, and was told to start taking the same vitamins, but with 45 mgs of Iron. Now I am severely constipated. I am in a lot of pain, and have hemorrhoids so bad that I can barely sit down. I purposely ate more sugar to see if it would make me dump, and it has not worked. I am so frustrated right now. -
Feeling super guilty...

Your only human. No worries. Just move forward, and don't beat yourself up for it. -
Taste changes for the worst!
HealthyLifeStyle replied to melissalong83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really bad for the first month. I couldn't even drink water without feeling sick. The only thing I could tolerate was peppermint tea. I had to get a script from the doc for nausea. Maybe you can ask your doc about it. It does help. My sensitivity to smell was the worst. Every time my hubby would cook something, I had to go outside because I felt so sick. By the second month I could eat cream of wheat, and a little bit of oatmeal. It got a little better for me each month. -
Thank you to everyone who recommended the Goddess Salad Dressing from Trader Joe's. I tried some last night, and I love it!

I did not see the spicy cashew. I will have to look for it. I wonder if they sell it on Amazon, so maybe you could get it from there?

Protein Shakes
HealthyLifeStyle replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
All plans are different for everyone. You had the sleeve, and I had the bypass. I have noticed that different docs have very different plans. It is very confusing. I also noticed that it is very different for people around the world. It seems like the USA is very strict compared to other countries. -
Protein Shakes

I have noticed that all of our plans are very different. It is very confusing. I just call my docs office & keep asking questions. -
Protein Shakes
HealthyLifeStyle replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The ONLY ones I can drink are Fairlife Caramel, and Chocolate. I do not like any other kinds. I tried so many of them as time went by. Some of them actually made me sick. -
We were told not to count calories, only protein, sugar, and carbs.

How muck protein is too much?
HealthyLifeStyle replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some days I find myself having well over 100, and other days I am lucky to reach the expected goal. It all depends on what I eat. I asked my doc about it when I had the 6 month follow up, and they said its fine. -
I was a huge pot smoker, for over 30 years. I actually quit when I knew I had to have this surgery. When I went to the classes, they told us we could not smoke anything, or we wouldn't be able to have the surgery. They never actually tested me, as far as I know. Maybe when they did the blood work, I was tested.

Funny, I thought the same after meeting my surgeon. I guess its true that all the staff, and nurses do all the work, and give you all the advice.

Surgery is Tomorrow.
HealthyLifeStyle replied to ShoppGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bring chap stick or some type of lip balm. My lips got so dry during my hospital stay. Also mouth spray, as your mouth will be very dry. I wish someone had told me this before my surgery. -
I noticed it too. It is happening to me as we speak. People always used to tell me how young I looked, even though I was overweight. Now, with the weight loss I have noticed how I do not get the same compliments. I am only 6 months out. I look like I have aged about 10 years.

Scared and Nervous
HealthyLifeStyle replied to Delta Lisa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used to eat chocolate every single day. Now to satisfy my craving, I have Bariatric Pals Hot Cocoa. I also used to eat ice cream every day, and now I eat a Yasso Greek Yogurt bar. You will find different, healthier versions of what you are currently used of. That is how it worked for me. Good Luck -

Me too! -
For the first 6 months of post op, I was taking Pro Care Health Bariatric Multivitamin without Iron. I pooped on an average of 6+ times a day. I know.....TMI, but this is a real problem. Since I had my 6 month follow up, the docs told me to take the same vitamins, but the one with 45 mg of Iron. I have been on them now for about 2 weeks. Now I am constipated, cramps, really have to push to poop, and it hurts my bum really bad. I am only going every other day now. This is a HUGE change from before, in only a short period of time. I am very worried that this is now the norm for me. I don't know if there is anything I can do about it. I just want a happy medium. Any suggestions would be great.

Bypass saggy skin
HealthyLifeStyle replied to Christina760's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 6 months out, and I have it big time. It makes me look like an old lady. I am only 51. It looks like chicken neck. I hate it. I won't be able to do surgery for at least 6 more months, if I decide to do it at all. -
45 mg Iron/Constipated
HealthyLifeStyle replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I will try to eat more fiber first. If it doesn't work, then I will take something for it. -
45 mg Iron/Constipated

I will try to eat more fiber. I will NOT eat the gummies after reading the awful reviews on Amazon! -
45 mg Iron/Constipated
HealthyLifeStyle replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
After reading the reviews on Amazon, I would NEVER eat any of these!! OMG -
I recently bought/tried the Bariatric Pal Peaches & Cream Oatmeal. It is not good at all. Very weird consistency. It also tasted very bland. For the costs of these things, you would think they at least tasted good. Another waste of $$$.

Thanks for the advice.
