  1. I'm about 14 weeks post-op. I've been very slow on the weight loss front, so I'm trying some more rigorous exercise and joined a martial arts class for beginners. What I've noticed with the class as well as after I've gone for a long bike ride or done other strenuous exercise is that I'm way more hungry the next day or so. Is that normal for everyone or is it just another way that my body is trying to get me to increase calories against my better judgement? Am I prematurely adding too much of the wrong kind of exercise? I just get bored with walking and find that taekwondo gives me a physical and mental challenge and really gives me a good solid workout a couple days a week..
  2. I had 5 weeks of plateau, then I lost 4 lbs, now I seem to be stuck again. I did have to increase my calories to start to lose weight. It seems like 1000 calories it the magic bullet for me and weight loss. I'm definitely less grumpy and tired at 1000 calories, but it took me weeks to realize that 800 wasn't working for my body.

I violate thermodynamics and it's crap

More like infuriating. If I'd been told that that there was a 20% chance I'd not lose any meaningful weight, I might have just stayed the way I was, e.g. stomach intact and taken my chances with life. At least I wouldn't be so pissed off.

    Is a 7 month stall a thing?

My first "stall" was 3 weeks post surgery that lasted 5 weeks. I was barely eating 700 cal per day at that point and still on a pureed/soft diet. Then I lost maybe 5lbs and have now had another 3 weeks of no weight loss. Now I'm able to eat all solid foods and not quite 12 weeks from surgery date. I am nowhere near my goal weight or the 20-30% weight loss promised by surgery. If I wanted to be at a goal/healthy body weight you could say that I have 180 lbs to lose still. As someone else said, I'm failing basic thermodynamics because I should be burning way more than I'm taking in just existing. I'm literally tired all the time and feel like my metabolism has shut down entirely. I went for a 6 mile bike ride w/errands (stops) on Saturday and spent all day Sunday and part of Monday feeling terrible. No energy to speak of for almost 2 days. The more I try to increase exercise, the worse I feel.

I bought a sewing tape measure that fit my hips. They're down maybe 2.5" from when I measured a month ago. My chest definitely lost inches and my waist maybe 1". I keep hoping it will budge. I'm honestly just glad I'm not alone in this. Not that I take any pleasure in hearing that other people have the same problem, I'm just glad to not be alone.

    Is a 7 month stall a thing?

Initial 25lb loss, then 5 week stall, followed by a 5.5 lb loss, and another 3 week stall. 5 days a week exercise(ish). I was at a work event for a week so it was much harder to track food and exercise when in a hotel working 12 hour shifts. I'm tracking every bite in MFP and come in between 850-900cal per day. No idea what to do. But you're not alone.

    Water intake

I learned to like the Protein20 water from Costco. It adds 20g of protein and the orange/mango isn't terrible.

I violate thermodynamics and it's crap

I had surgery on 2/4. I lost about 25 lbs right away then nothing. I got to 345 and stalled for 5 weeks. Now I'm at 339(ish) and stuck, again for 3+ weeks. My exercise is okay, I get about 30-45 min a day 4-5 days a week. I definitely eat less than 1000 calories a day, with (mostly) balanced macros. I keep my protein > 70 every day and fat and carbs seem to fluctuate a bit depending. Yesterday I ate pecans so my fat was high and carbs were low. Other days I'll eat a banana or apple and then my carbs go up. Regardless, I can't seem to lose any more weight and it's been almost 3 months since surgery. I was doing some googling and found articles on WLS non-responders or insufficient weight loss. Apparently what they don't tell you is that there are people who aren't successful metabolically. My doctor already said I should find a new way of defining success that isn't the scale. Like I should celebrate my increased exercise achievements. Have to say I find it hard to "celebrate" increased exercise stamina that doesn't come with dropping pounds. I wanted to fit my ass into an airplane seat and see Europe and not be a fat American. Looks like that isn't going to happen, though.
  9. I have sized out of my original pants and shirt sizes and I only have a handful of clothing in the next size down and almost nothing that I could wear to work. I have been continuing to wear my old shirts (size 3x, 4x, 28) but they're super baggy and look ridiculous now. Eventually I will have to stop WFH and go back to work, but I don't want to spend a fortune on the next size down clothing. I know someone mentioned thrift stores to me, but I don't believe I'm going to find a ton of pants and shirts that I'd want to wear in the size 24-26, pants or 2x shirts. I'm not quite at a 24 since the 26s are fitting well for now and at 5lbs/10 days I'm not going to drop clothing sizes particularly quickly. Lane Bryant and Catherines are so expensive that I hesitate to spend anything. Just wondering what other people are doing or have done for clothes.
  10. I had the sleeve done on 2/4. Lost weight for 3 weeks, stalled for 5 and now just recently started losing weight again. The problem I have is that it seems slower than before. Since March 27th I have maybe lost 5 or 6 lbs. I have 2 different scales, one is a body composition scale that I picked up to see if I could get some kind of baseline on my stats. Anyway 5 lbs in 10 days doesn't seem like much compared to how fast it went in the first 3 weeks. Just wondering if that is normal expected weight loss now? By my calculations I should be burning about a net of 2000 calories per day, which seems like I should be losing more weight than I am. Maybe I'm just impatient because I lost so much perceived ground during the ridiculously long stall.
  11. Having actual predictable hunger has made me have to think long and hard about what I want to eat/can eat so that when I'm hungry (like now, for example), I nutritious foods to eat. Fortunately, I fill up quickly like everyone else with the sleeve, I just get hungry at predictable intervals.
  12. Where do you get multivitamin patches? I have heard of those, but haven't run across any for sale anywhere.
  13. I still have about 3 weeks worth of the opurity multivitamins. Every day I choke that thing down. The one day it wasn't awful was when I took it with a cup of coffee. Slightly less bad is taking it with yogurt. It also helps if you break it into smaller pieces first. I usually kind of bite it into 4 smaller pieces, take a bite of yogurt or banana and chew as quickly as I can. I don't retch the way I did for the first 4 weeks, but they are still awful, awful, awful.
  14. I know this is a marathon. An 18 month long marathon, but I want it to go faster! I just have a first goal of getting under 300lbs, something I was hoping for by June at the latest, but I don't think I can drop 39lbs in 8 weeks. Maybe? More vigorous exercise? I'm actually afraid if I do an uptick in exercise to burn more calories without increasing any food I might stall again. As for hunger returning, it's here and at mealtimes I'm legit stomach hungry. So I feel cheated on the not being hungry for 6+ months promise.

    No Weight Loss

Ha! During my 5 week stall I lost nothing noticeable below the waist because my next size-down pants stayed pretty snug in the waist and thighs. I honestly believe that to some extent all the medical professionals literally have no idea what is actually happening to their patients' bodies. They ought to start enrolling patients in medical studies and check all kinds of labs, body fat comp, and other BMR and RMR type measurements to see exactly what is happening.

    No Weight Loss

I stalled on week three post op and stayed stalled for 5 full weeks. I reviewed my diet with my nutritionist since I was keeping meticulous records in My Fitness Pal and she had some advice for me that may or may not have helped. I am now more careful to watch my fat macros. Apparently eggs, cheese and nuts, while technically on the menu, added too much fat and not enough protein. I also upped my calories from the 600s to the 800s and increased my protein intake to a minimum of 80g a day. Fortunately, I learned to like the Protein20 drink (available at Costco in a 12 pack) and that extra 90 calories gives me 20g of protein and hydration which I was always struggling to meet. Since my weight loss returned last Saturday I have only lost about 5 pounds in 9 days, so it seems slower than the first 3 weeks when I shed about 25 lbs pretty quickly. I was also pretty bad about getting in exercise, but having surgery and then plummeting into sub-zero temperatures in the middle of a pandemic didn't exactly encourage daily walking. Now that it's nice I try to get in a long daily walk and/or 30 minutes on the elliptical. I would encourage you to take some measurements, too, during the stall if you haven't already. I have a friend who had the bypass surgery 3 weeks after me and she claims to have only lost 11 lbs, but her weight loss is noticeable in her hips and thighs. Seeing a tape measure drop may indicate that fat is being burned, but that water weight is being replenished. I feel your pain. The stall is the worst thing to make you feel like you've failed and that your body has betrayed you.
  17. Late to the party, I know. Would it just be rude to say my comfort with my new BMI is none of your G-D business? Because that's what I'd say, but with slightly more swearing. If you have a problem with what makes me feel good, maybe you should reflect on your own prejudices, biases and neuroses before you sh!t all over everyone else? I am seriously in love with this idea of best weight. Way back when I was 17 I got down to about 199 lbs (I'm 5'11). I hit a size 12 and had the rudimentary beginnings of a thigh gap, but had a nice C cup and looked proportional. I felt pretty good about my weight then and would feel great there again and I'm pretty sure that is still technically overweight. Apologies for the language, I just get so angry with people who feel the need to insert their unsolicited opinions on everyone else.

    3 week stall...I guess

I'm at nearly 4 week stall now. Yesterday the body composition scale I bought from Amazon arrived so that I can get a new baseline and track what is actually happening. I met with a nutritionist who had full access to my fitness pal records. The only helpful advice she gave me was to cut down on fat calories and increase carbs, protein and daily calories to 800. It wasn't like my fat calories were way out of whack, just coming in over 25% some days. She told me in 12 years she'd never seen anyone fail to lose significant weight, but that she hadn't seen a stall this long before. The only things I can think of now are that my daily thyroid meds aren't being absorbed or that my extremely low protein values shown by the new scale (3.6%) are also causing problems with weight loss. I was definitely eating 60g+ of protein a day, so I don't know why I'm not absorbing it. I bought protein water, it tastes disgusting, but at least I can boost protein without many calories and get water intake to boot. But yeah, I've been stuck at 25 lb loss for 4 weeks with the only minor ups and downs related to my fluid intake. It would be a gross understatement to say my mental health has taken a nose-dive. I can't believe I did this to my body only to have it not work.

    Stall frustration

I see your words and a weight loss journey that is very comparable to what I need to do, I just don't believe it right now. I'll take your words as hope for my own future, though.

    Stall frustration

I've been stalled for 3 weeks. I've lost one whole pound after dropping 25. I'm not an emotional person, but I've cried every day this week. I don't cheat, I eat 65-70g of protein every day. I drink my water. I'm literally convinced this is it. Stuck at a BMI if 46 until I die, unless I start gaining weight again. The whole thing seems hopeless and pointless now. I did this so I wouldn't fight a set point and instead I'm fighting my body in a wholly unexpected way. I hope your stall breaks for you soon.

    Legs cramps / achey legs

I have been eating 1/2 banana per day in the last week and haven't noticed leg cramps in the last 5 days, so maybe there bananas are helping a bit. I can only eat them when they're still a little green on the ends, so I had to wait until I could tolerate them.

    Legs cramps / achey legs

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I wake up 2-3 nights a week with the worst leg cramps I've ever had in my life.

    "Head Hunger"

It's usually 2-3 hours post last meal when I feel it. I'm also chronically under-hydrated, but drinking water makes it more pronounced. I'm not particularly extra active, but the day I was ravenous I had done a 30 min super light exercise and stretching routine before lunch. I know other people subsist on 600 calories, but as soon as I went back to work, even though it's desk work, that hunger kicked in. Mental work takes calories? Idk. As far as weight loss it's been down maybe 1 lb in the last week. A friend who had this surgery said she stalled and then got her period and weight loss kicked in again. Maybe I'm retaining water?

    Caloric intake

5 weeks post op and I'm around 600-700 per day. I have my food tracking app set to 800 with 70G protein and I try to meet the protein goal and stay well below 800. Some foods I've given up eating because they provide no protein benefit whatsoever.
