KayBee1972 started following How much weight lost, on average, per week?, Exercise and Hunger, Weight loss concerns, or lack of weight loss and and 5 others
-
I'm about 14 weeks post-op. I've been very slow on the weight loss front, so I'm trying some more rigorous exercise and joined a martial arts class for beginners. What I've noticed with the class as well as after I've gone for a long bike ride or done other strenuous exercise is that I'm way more hungry the next day or so. Is that normal for everyone or is it just another way that my body is trying to get me to increase calories against my better judgement? Am I prematurely adding too much of the wrong kind of exercise? I just get bored with walking and find that taekwondo gives me a physical and mental challenge and really gives me a good solid workout a couple days a week..

Weight loss concerns, or lack of weight loss
KayBee1972 replied to Virginia M's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had 5 weeks of plateau, then I lost 4 lbs, now I seem to be stuck again. I did have to increase my calories to start to lose weight. It seems like 1000 calories it the magic bullet for me and weight loss. I'm definitely less grumpy and tired at 1000 calories, but it took me weeks to realize that 800 wasn't working for my body. -

More like infuriating. If I'd been told that that there was a 20% chance I'd not lose any meaningful weight, I might have just stayed the way I was, e.g. stomach intact and taken my chances with life. At least I wouldn't be so pissed off. -
Is a 7 month stall a thing?
KayBee1972 replied to wakeupmaggie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My first "stall" was 3 weeks post surgery that lasted 5 weeks. I was barely eating 700 cal per day at that point and still on a pureed/soft diet. Then I lost maybe 5lbs and have now had another 3 weeks of no weight loss. Now I'm able to eat all solid foods and not quite 12 weeks from surgery date. I am nowhere near my goal weight or the 20-30% weight loss promised by surgery. If I wanted to be at a goal/healthy body weight you could say that I have 180 lbs to lose still. As someone else said, I'm failing basic thermodynamics because I should be burning way more than I'm taking in just existing. I'm literally tired all the time and feel like my metabolism has shut down entirely. I went for a 6 mile bike ride w/errands (stops) on Saturday and spent all day Sunday and part of Monday feeling terrible. No energy to speak of for almost 2 days. The more I try to increase exercise, the worse I feel. -

I bought a sewing tape measure that fit my hips. They're down maybe 2.5" from when I measured a month ago. My chest definitely lost inches and my waist maybe 1". I keep hoping it will budge. I'm honestly just glad I'm not alone in this. Not that I take any pleasure in hearing that other people have the same problem, I'm just glad to not be alone. -

Initial 25lb loss, then 5 week stall, followed by a 5.5 lb loss, and another 3 week stall. 5 days a week exercise(ish). I was at a work event for a week so it was much harder to track food and exercise when in a hotel working 12 hour shifts. I'm tracking every bite in MFP and come in between 850-900cal per day. No idea what to do. But you're not alone. -
I learned to like the Protein20 water from Costco. It adds 20g of protein and the orange/mango isn't terrible.

I had surgery on 2/4. I lost about 25 lbs right away then nothing. I got to 345 and stalled for 5 weeks. Now I'm at 339(ish) and stuck, again for 3+ weeks. My exercise is okay, I get about 30-45 min a day 4-5 days a week. I definitely eat less than 1000 calories a day, with (mostly) balanced macros. I keep my protein > 70 every day and fat and carbs seem to fluctuate a bit depending. Yesterday I ate pecans so my fat was high and carbs were low. Other days I'll eat a banana or apple and then my carbs go up. Regardless, I can't seem to lose any more weight and it's been almost 3 months since surgery. I was doing some googling and found articles on WLS non-responders or insufficient weight loss. Apparently what they don't tell you is that there are people who aren't successful metabolically. My doctor already said I should find a new way of defining success that isn't the scale. Like I should celebrate my increased exercise achievements. Have to say I find it hard to "celebrate" increased exercise stamina that doesn't come with dropping pounds. I wanted to fit my ass into an airplane seat and see Europe and not be a fat American. Looks like that isn't going to happen, though. -

I have sized out of my original pants and shirt sizes and I only have a handful of clothing in the next size down and almost nothing that I could wear to work. I have been continuing to wear my old shirts (size 3x, 4x, 28) but they're super baggy and look ridiculous now. Eventually I will have to stop WFH and go back to work, but I don't want to spend a fortune on the next size down clothing. I know someone mentioned thrift stores to me, but I don't believe I'm going to find a ton of pants and shirts that I'd want to wear in the size 24-26, pants or 2x shirts. I'm not quite at a 24 since the 26s are fitting well for now and at 5lbs/10 days I'm not going to drop clothing sizes particularly quickly. Lane Bryant and Catherines are so expensive that I hesitate to spend anything. Just wondering what other people are doing or have done for clothes.

How much weight lost, on average, per week?
KayBee1972 replied to KayBee1972's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Having actual predictable hunger has made me have to think long and hard about what I want to eat/can eat so that when I'm hungry (like now, for example), I nutritious foods to eat. Fortunately, I fill up quickly like everyone else with the sleeve, I just get hungry at predictable intervals. -
Sleevers....What brand multi vitamin are you taking?
KayBee1972 replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where do you get multivitamin patches? I have heard of those, but haven't run across any for sale anywhere. -

KayBee1972 replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still have about 3 weeks worth of the opurity multivitamins. Every day I choke that thing down. The one day it wasn't awful was when I took it with a cup of coffee. Slightly less bad is taking it with yogurt. It also helps if you break it into smaller pieces first. I usually kind of bite it into 4 smaller pieces, take a bite of yogurt or banana and chew as quickly as I can. I don't retch the way I did for the first 4 weeks, but they are still awful, awful, awful. -
How much weight lost, on average, per week?
KayBee1972 replied to KayBee1972's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know this is a marathon. An 18 month long marathon, but I want it to go faster! I just have a first goal of getting under 300lbs, something I was hoping for by June at the latest, but I don't think I can drop 39lbs in 8 weeks. Maybe? More vigorous exercise? I'm actually afraid if I do an uptick in exercise to burn more calories without increasing any food I might stall again. As for hunger returning, it's here and at mealtimes I'm legit stomach hungry. So I feel cheated on the not being hungry for 6+ months promise. -
How much weight lost, on average, per week?
KayBee1972 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve done on 2/4. Lost weight for 3 weeks, stalled for 5 and now just recently started losing weight again. The problem I have is that it seems slower than before. Since March 27th I have maybe lost 5 or 6 lbs. I have 2 different scales, one is a body composition scale that I picked up to see if I could get some kind of baseline on my stats. Anyway 5 lbs in 10 days doesn't seem like much compared to how fast it went in the first 3 weeks. Just wondering if that is normal expected weight loss now? By my calculations I should be burning about a net of 2000 calories per day, which seems like I should be losing more weight than I am. Maybe I'm just impatient because I lost so much perceived ground during the ridiculously long stall. -
Ha! During my 5 week stall I lost nothing noticeable below the waist because my next size-down pants stayed pretty snug in the waist and thighs. I honestly believe that to some extent all the medical professionals literally have no idea what is actually happening to their patients' bodies. They ought to start enrolling patients in medical studies and check all kinds of labs, body fat comp, and other BMR and RMR type measurements to see exactly what is happening.
